Friday Update: E3 Multiplayer Demo

This week's friday update is the E3 Multiplayer Game Play Demo:

During E3 we gave live demos of multiplayer game play in The Old Republic for the press. Now we want to share the demo with the community! This demo shows how a diverse group of players use their abilities to complement one another in battle.

Commander Narlock readies his troops for an Imperial assault. As he does, all four Republic classes; a Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, Smuggler, and Trooper join together to assist in fighting off the attack. Watch as each player does his or her part to take on the enemies, and beat the Imperial Troopers and Imperial Breach Droids.

See how group combat will be a thrilling part of The Old Republic in this Multiplayer Game Play Demo.

The downloadable and localized versions will be available next week.

Sean Dahlberg gives further insight about the video:

This is indeed another take of what happened during E3. In here you have Brian Arndt as the Smuggler, Rob Chestney as the Trooper, Cory as the Jedi Knight, and I played the Jedi Consular.

This was something shown during E3 on G4 but we wanted to give you a version that had no cuts from start to finish, where you got to hear the VO, and saw the same setup tackled in a slightly different way.

Working Dissection after the jump.

Note: We will go back over the video once a high res version comes out to dissect the text and other abilities seen here.

Letting people find things is overrated :P

I wanna note 2 things, 1.) I was watching the classes on the left side of the screen and noted that none of their class specific consumable bars were (ie Energy/ammo/force) were being consumed, only the consular - anyone care to speculate what thats about

2.) Man theyre doing an excellent job with the lighting effects, watch the droid or any of the other characters as they fire a blaster, you can even get the effect from the lightsabers casting green/blue light although its not quite as obvious in these well lit areas.

The VO work is great. At first it was strange to hear a normal sounding voice out of the Mon Cal, but I could see getting used to it fairly easily. The facial animations were synced pretty well to the voice work.

I am hoping that the Mon Cal was just a temp VO, and that the final pass will have the 'gargle' accent.

Iirc, the Rodian in the E3 Smuggler video, sounded like Rodian (aka Greedo). The Mon Cals should sound like Ackbar, not Han Solo, imo.

    HAHA!

That Brian Arndt is a funny guy...

I think DH team missed something from the dissection. The command based emotion system :D You can check it, when the consular character typing the "/wave" command into the chat panel(top left). This could be mentioned.

Nice work as always guys. Just had a thought that the Trooper pic with him loading some different ammo, could be his Agro/Threat ammo right? Would be a simple and very feasable threat mechanic for ranged tanking i think, instead of taunting etc. Also, i agree with a few people about the 'dullness' of the sabers recently. Glow em up again plz BW :D

    Thanks for the dissection.

Do we know if that is the 'final' pass of the Vocals or was the temp filler for the Demo? For he amount of hype about being all VO, I am expecting quality VO's (ie a Mon Cal sounding like a Mon Cal -- throaty gargle --, rather than sounding like human doing an impression of a Mon Cal, so to speak).

really really nice multiplayer action seen here. I just think they could refine some of the textures and, I dont know if you agree with me, but they are missing shadows arent they? I mean, these graphics are going to be altered/improved/polished once we see the final graphics, right? (Or if you can change video settings, and perhaps these are at an average level)

Btw, dont you think the lightsabers should glow just a littttttttttttttttttttttttttttttle bit more?
Im not disliking the graphics at all, dont get me wrong, i like the art style alot actually. :)

Hehe i'm with you on the sabers. Seem to have turned the brightness down somewhat in recent media.

Good break down - I missed somethings, so handy. I'm looking fwd to the HD version so I can see more details, frame by frame. Has the Jedi Knight got a headband or something on his forehead???

I enjoyed the footage. It's cool, if somewhat scripted out into roles and knowing exactly what's coming so 'perfect' raid to get the video they wanted ie no wipes etc. I wonder how hard some of the content will be. Heroic type modes would be good to offer scaling difficulty perhaps?

please no heroic and normal crap...
