In addition to some space combat details, the latest issue of PC Gamer revealed the Advanced Classes for the Jedi Knight: the Jedi Sentinel and the Jedi Guardian. PC Gamer described the Sentinel as a dual wielding DPS, light armor wearer, while the Guardian is single wield "tankish" class, and can wear heavier armor. LucasArts confirmed these were indeed the names of the Advanced Classes, but couldn't provide any additional details.

Myself, I'll have to either be a tank (something I have little experience with), or settle for a look less iconic. We'll just have to see. It might actually force me to look at other classes, which should be interesting.
To me, dual-wielding is too flashy and adolescent, which now limits my choices. Yes, I know there are many others who love dual and/or don't care about character customization, but I do.
But I suppose I can explore a new class if need be.
Besides, it's not how flashy you are, it's how skilled you are (and, of course, if the Force is with you). I think I saw somebody with one saber do far more DPS than someone with FOUR! It was in a movie or something...
All that said, I was really referring to the idea of customizing your character and how you fight, and how I wish melee DPS wasn't forced into a certain configuration. Perhaps if the two skill trees of each Advanced Class were broken down into one method or the other, it would be different.
But, as I said, I'll just have to adapt.
And Obi-Wan did his DPS with a blaster against the guy with four sabers. And that movie sucked. Just sayin'.
So that movie sucked. TOR seems to be more and more based on it. Just sayin'.
But anyhow, the basic weapon in the Force-using universe is a single TWO-HANDED SABER. One saber, yes, but not a single-handed one. So I'm afraid your argument is based on a fact that is totally wrong. Just to say it one more time, most Jedi and Sith using one saber are using it TWO-HANDED. When you see the JK running around in the gameplay video, how many hands does he have on that hilt?
But, as stated and ignored, I would like to be able to DPS effectively with a single saber. It actually makes sense if you don't throw a bunch of false statements at it and compare only to other MMOs. That's all. It's not going to happen, but I though I'd say it since I figured this was a place for opinions.
In conclusion, a single 2H saber is iconic. Double-bladed sabers and dual wield are flashy, which is cool for some, but less appealing for others (and some of those others want to play DPS). From an MMO standpoint, two blades should mean more strikes, but a single 2H blade should mean more damage per strike.
...Just sayin'.
