Our working dissection of the Space Combat Video is after the jump. As always, content that is covered in past dissections will not be covered in this one but feel free to take a look at our past dissections by clicking dissection in the tag cloud for reference. As with all dissections, we will be adding stuff on the fly so make sure to check back here for updates.
Stoked... I am stoked for this now. This is what they needed to do to create a full cinematic experience in Space Combat in SWTOR. This will be action-packed and "heroic", which is what Bioware for aiming for.
1. My Speculation theory on the default ship controls
W = Boost engines forward
A = pitch left
S = brake/slowdown
D = pitch right
left mouse = main guns
right mouse = missles / countermeasures
scroll mouse button = zoom in / zoom out (possible cockpit view)
Space = complete stop
you would use the mouse to move around going up and down and left and right by moving the mouse. I'm sure there would be inverted options going up and down
thats my theory on default ship controls
2. Now my theory on later implemented PVP would be that of All Range Mode in Starfox 64s boss battles/Multiplayer. (All Range Mode as it was called in Star Fox 64) Where they implant you flying around in a cube type area where the central of the boss battle or the multiplayer. If you go out of that cube area you are automatically flipped back in that cube to continue the fight and you can fly freely and fight anywhere within that cube space until you fly out and get automatically flipped back in.
this would only make sense if you played StarFox 64 though.
Smugglers have to know how to fly their ship and i think this is the best way to go.
This is merely speculation of course.
pvp would also comes in terms of faction republic vs. empire but thats too obvious
I don't think you will have any control over the ship other than WASD as in up, left, right and down, and whether you use misiles or laser and the mouse for aiming, as for the speed and direction, it will be all done by the game itself.. time will tell.
If that were the case then, movement would be very stuff and clunky as far as ships go. movement and speed of ships need to flow smoothly. Therefore mouse is best for movement.
also if it were up to WASD for movement more key bindings would be needed for diagonal directions.
and yes time will tell. not played the game we have except for those who have and developed it.
Regarding the planet in images 6 and 9 (same planet I believe)... didn't Hoth have a fairly significant asteroid field nearby? My memory may be faulty, but I think I've got this right, and if so, I'd say that planet was Hoth.
Looks like DH has the assumption on which ship is which exactly right (imo) and I'm overjoyed personally... the Hunter and Agent ships look fantastic (imo) and I also like the Sith ship. On the other hand, not at all impressed with the Jedi or Trooper ships. Kind of have to give a nod to the Smuggler ship for old times sake just because of the similarities to the Millennium Falcon, but the other REP ships are not very cool looking.
Regading the scene in image 12... what was the name of the nebula that smugglers used as a short cut, but was far too dangerous for most common traffic? Gah... brainlock. I'll edit later when I can remember more fully. *EDIT*[ another Hater mentioned it... The Kessel Run. Many thanx to Vanlan for that... it was killing me that I couldn't remember it...]
and Lastly
Regading the planet in image 7... as others have already speculated that "could" be Corellia. Oh man, I want it to be Corellia so much it hurts.

It could be Corellia however I am leaning towards Alderaan too hard to tell since they both would look similar from space but one distinguishing feature of Corellia is it's clouds. They look like pin wheel clouds or something similar.
Although there has been a lot of different takes on Corellia over the years. Guess we will see.
