UPDATE 8/18: Advanced Class Names Revealed in Press Presentations
UPDATE 8/19: Advanced Class Names Revealed on offiicial site here.

Please note our original post included some inaccuracies specifically with the Trooper descriptions, missing information for the Bounty Hunter, as well as some missing description points. We apologize for any confusion: the slides were shown to us for about 20s each and our priority was to get the accurate names for each Advanced Class.

  • Imperial Agent - Operative & Sniper

  • Sith Inquisitor - Sorcerer & Assassin

  • Bounty Hunter - Powertech & Mercenary

  • Jedi Consular - Shadow & Wizard

  • Trooper - Commando & Vanguard

More information about the Jedi Knight advanced classes:

  • Sentinel: Dual Light Sabers; Saber Fighting Specialist; Melee

  • Guardian: Single Light Saber/ Heavy Armor; Leadership/ Party Buffs; Tank

Blaine Christine gave the presentation, and these were some of the descriptions for each class. As he introduced these slides, he gave the example of how you would turn into Darth Maul: you pick your species as Zabrak, and as you level up, you are presented with the option to become a Sith Assassin. "The Assassin is going to be able to use a double bladed lightsaber just like Darth Maul. He is going to do a lot of damage, so that is his main function." He continued with a description of the Sith Sorcerer: "He is going to be a lot more like the Emperor; more ranged based. He will still use his lightsaber, but he is going to use Force Lightning and focus on that to fry his enemies from afar."

Then as a comparison, the Jedi Knight was touched on. The Sentinel uses dual lightsabers, was compared to Anakin Skywalker, and has a focus on dealing lots of damage with fast moves and action. The Guardian was described as a "traditional MMO tank" by wearing heavier armor, and the ability to soak up lots of damage.

Please note all the Advanced Class names were communicated in English along with the entire presentation, and we will update this post with more details as we receive them. We are committed to bringing you the most accurate official information coming out of Gamescom.

Shortly after the announcement of all the classes, we received another version of the multiplayer group demo that we originally saw at E3 -- but this time, all the Republic characters were playing Advanced Classes. The Jedi Sentinel was the dps off-tank, while the Trooper Commando was ranged tanking the large mob. The Smuggler had the Gunslinger specialization, and used portable cover while dual wielding blasters. The Jedi Consular chose the Wizard advanced class, and provided both healing and light crowd control.

New Space Combat Information

Space combat missions take place in "Hotspots." You will gain space combat-related rewards for completing the missions, which are based on typical scenarios from the movies.

Hands On Gameplay

All classes available for play at Level 2 except for Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular. Different build than at E3, but it seemed more about graphical improvement.

With this info out there, it would be interesting to see a group role (tank, DPS, or healer) poll and a "What is your favorite Advanced Class?" poll. It was interesting to see the class choices balance out overtime to near-evenness.

Also, I just like census-type polls.

Do the trooper AC names seem backwards as far as their roles to anyone else?

Sorry if it's been said, but I couldn't find it mentioned anywhere in the immense cloud of "Wizard" discussion below.
  • #212 David256
I agree, but they can always switch them later (even after launch if they have to, but that would be unnecessarily confusing). Also think Wizard should be changed to Sage.
  • #201 abner_ford
Well, I was hoping the Commando class was going to walk around with no shirt and dual-wield machine guns.
  • #218 Elkesai
Yes, indeed, but you'd have to include the Austrian accent.

Also, the use of underwear would be forbidden by the senate.

I sure do hope that one of the perks of going the Wizard route for the Jedi Consular is the inclusion of a Power Glove later in the game.

    "It's so bad."
  • #200 abner_ford
    We have a winner here.

I guess I'll chime in here. I was fine with all of the AC names, with the exception of Wizard really. It just is a silly name when there were better options out there that others have already brought up (sage being the best, I think). Powertech is... interesting, at least. Don't have a problem with it, especially if it focuses more on heavy-hitting gadgets than the Mercenary does. People freaking out like every single AC name is bad are just looking for something to complain about. I, for one, am stoked about playing my Imperial Operative.

The screenshots look great, also. I've said it before, but it never ceases to amaze me how close they get the concept art to the actual game sometimes.

"Silly." I think that term is perfect to describe the title Wizard.

But I also think it could be used to describe the inclusion of Hoth in the game. :O

Confirmation of the rumor that Zabraks can be Troopers: http://www.gamestar.de/index.cfm?pid=1589&pk=14588
It's in German but the Zabrak player is clear as day. Also there appears to be a Mirialan trooper NPC standing next to her throughout the cut scene. At least now we have our first cross-class/cross-allegiance species confirmation.
  • #196 DarthRuss
Thanks for posting this link, that video was very informative. We see the Zabrak Trooper character, a Mirialan NPC Trooper like you said, and maybe a different species Trooper NPC standing behind the Mirialan?
  • #186 abner_ford
Can't view the link at work, but thank the stars. People can finally calm down about that. It was entirely bogus to think that there would only be one non-human species choice for each class.
  • #198 Khadroth
Yes hopefully this will curtail some of the whining about class restrictions for the species. Also thanks to the NPC trooper appearance by the Mirialan it's pretty safe to assume they can be all the republic classes at least.
    Smuggler: Hylo Visz
    Jedi Knight : Fortris Gall
    Jedi Consular: Already Confirmed.
  • #199 abner_ford
Well, just because an NPC is seen as something doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a playable option. BioWare likes to have NPC's you might come across that are oddballs within the rest of the game. I'll still wait for confirmation on the Mirialan being playable for every class, because if they are, then people are going to complain if *their* race isn't playable for every class. That's what people do.
