UPDATE 8/18: Advanced Class Names Revealed in Press Presentations
UPDATE 8/19: Advanced Class Names Revealed on offiicial site here.

Please note our original post included some inaccuracies specifically with the Trooper descriptions, missing information for the Bounty Hunter, as well as some missing description points. We apologize for any confusion: the slides were shown to us for about 20s each and our priority was to get the accurate names for each Advanced Class.

  • Imperial Agent - Operative & Sniper

  • Sith Inquisitor - Sorcerer & Assassin

  • Bounty Hunter - Powertech & Mercenary

  • Jedi Consular - Shadow & Wizard

  • Trooper - Commando & Vanguard

More information about the Jedi Knight advanced classes:

  • Sentinel: Dual Light Sabers; Saber Fighting Specialist; Melee

  • Guardian: Single Light Saber/ Heavy Armor; Leadership/ Party Buffs; Tank

Blaine Christine gave the presentation, and these were some of the descriptions for each class. As he introduced these slides, he gave the example of how you would turn into Darth Maul: you pick your species as Zabrak, and as you level up, you are presented with the option to become a Sith Assassin. "The Assassin is going to be able to use a double bladed lightsaber just like Darth Maul. He is going to do a lot of damage, so that is his main function." He continued with a description of the Sith Sorcerer: "He is going to be a lot more like the Emperor; more ranged based. He will still use his lightsaber, but he is going to use Force Lightning and focus on that to fry his enemies from afar."

Then as a comparison, the Jedi Knight was touched on. The Sentinel uses dual lightsabers, was compared to Anakin Skywalker, and has a focus on dealing lots of damage with fast moves and action. The Guardian was described as a "traditional MMO tank" by wearing heavier armor, and the ability to soak up lots of damage.

Please note all the Advanced Class names were communicated in English along with the entire presentation, and we will update this post with more details as we receive them. We are committed to bringing you the most accurate official information coming out of Gamescom.

Shortly after the announcement of all the classes, we received another version of the multiplayer group demo that we originally saw at E3 -- but this time, all the Republic characters were playing Advanced Classes. The Jedi Sentinel was the dps off-tank, while the Trooper Commando was ranged tanking the large mob. The Smuggler had the Gunslinger specialization, and used portable cover while dual wielding blasters. The Jedi Consular chose the Wizard advanced class, and provided both healing and light crowd control.

New Space Combat Information

Space combat missions take place in "Hotspots." You will gain space combat-related rewards for completing the missions, which are based on typical scenarios from the movies.

Hands On Gameplay

All classes available for play at Level 2 except for Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular. Different build than at E3, but it seemed more about graphical improvement.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in alot of the AC names. I agree the Trooper one's seem backwards. And I'm not a fan of either consular AC name. And Powertech? Seriously? That's the best you could come up with? I kinda expected better from BioWare.

Imperial Operative all the way!! Blaster rifles! Stealth! Vibroswords...oh my!! Operative seems like the type that likes to get in the thick of the battle & can hold his own. The ability to use blaster rifles (carbines I assume) has me sold tho.
  • #155 abner_ford
Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
  • #165 ArcherAvatar
It's a sure bet that the Operative will be the AC with healing in it as well (while the Sniper AC is more exclusively focused on DPS)
I've alwasy said, "stealth healer with a sniper rifle... SOLD!!!"

I like Posiden's take on the AC's skill sets (aka talent trees) suggesting that of the 2 skill sets 1 will focus on CC and healing while the other focuses on DPS.
While on the other side of the aisle, the Sniper skills sets will be a smorgisborg of different types of damage, almost certainly including AoE, and extreme burst.

They BETTER DARNED let Purebloods be Sith Inquisitors now!!! If they don't allow the species that INVENTED SIth sorcery to BE sorcerers, I will be WAY irritated.
  • #56 MechaGodzilla
SIs having stealth? I need more info asap but atm I'm saying omgpwnagedroolzonface
Also JCs= Wizards and Shadows? if JCs have stealth, shadow is ok but if not then both names suck
  • #58 flem1
I have to say, these silly names are the first thing to make me reconsider my class choice.
  • #62 SandRock87
SI and Stealth.... Hmmm... I want a melee stealth class. I was always pinning that on the IA. But perhaps I'll be going SI after all then...
  • #63 tfganhao
i was going to roll JK but SI with stealth/burst/ double bladed..... LOL i gotz a new class!

Could you guys ask about character costumization and a possible appearance tab to avoid the "clone" effect of WoW? Roleplayers want to know. :)

Related to this, are those ginormous shoulderpads from the space combat video something normal we have to look forward to? In this case an apperance tab is even more important, to avoid having to wear such embarrassing outfits.

Those names..I mean.the only one im like what the french, toast ? is Wizard.

I mean in a era where the term knight is used, apparently more literally than we though, it makes sense. Im just sayin.

    I know NOTHING!

No, I really don't apparently. Jedi Wizard, umm, ok? I guess. I guess there going with the Owen Lars route of "that crazy old wizard?' But, this still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Been watching the hordes play at the TOR stand here: http://www.ea.com/gamescom/cat/livecam

The camera does move so you may need to wait until it goes back if you do not see it right away. :)

In Ep. 5 Motti says to Darth Vader "Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways" - there's precedent for the sorcerer straight away! Also, the fact that there was a book called "Obi-Wan Kenobi: Wizard of the Desert", seems to be a reasonable premise for the Jedi Wizard :)
