Gamescom: Class Abilities Update & Comparison

Gamescom: Class Abilities Update & Comparison

We were able to have multiple members of the Darth Hater staff on hand to help compile the following ability stats at Gamescom. With the rushed nature of our hands on time, the consistency from one class to the next is understandably variable. Additionally, it should be noted that we were repeatedly reminded that all in-game text from character sheets to tooltips are considered "placeholder" and may be subject to change.

Note: We played Level 2 characters. Although we previously mentioned many abilities in prior dissections and other content, we included them to contrast and track changes between the various builds. Changes from one build to the next are highlighted in bold.

At the moment it looks like that every ability you can't use while moving has either "must be in cover to use" or "cannot use while moving" in their description. Could be that I'm wrong, don't think I tried it with a channeled ability. Will check that on Saturday if possible.

Shiv isn't a 1 sec channel, do you mean Snipe? Shiv is an instant ability.

    Yeah you're right. I misread.

    Thanks for the heads up!

So now that you can press both mouse buttons to walk (which is the standard), does that mean the 'right-click an enemy to attack' thing is not in anymore?

I think there was a misunderstanding there. Instead of walking with WASD, you can (optionally) also walk by keeping both mouse buttons pressed and steering with the mouse. Just like in DA:O for example.

There is no auto-attack, so it kind of differs. Right click was my camera on E3 build on the SI.

Does it feel weird not having an auto attack or do you get used to it pretty easily?
  • #27 Excidium
It shouldn't feel weird for melee either. I don't know which MMOs you play but on my melee characters i'm using a skill almost every second, auto attacking is just a sort of "passive" damage we got used to having.

You don't even miss it. But then again, I mostly play casters so I don't really use auto-attack.

Sounds like a pain in the butt. Same with the show cover mechanic.

I'm very much a mouse turning, hot-key using, circle-strafing kind of person, and the need to spam a button for (non)auto-attacks sounds annoying. Worse yet is the idea of having to hold down a key to see where I can take cover.

I haven't played, but I'd really hope there's a toggle for those things. Or at least the latter of the two.

There is a toggle ability for show cover.

    Thanks, good to hear.

You get used to it very quickly. Gives you the feeling of more control if every action the character does corresponds to the pressing of a button or a mouse click. Really more action-packed combat than any other MMO.

This is exactly the opposite of how I imagine it will feel. I'm used to playing rogue/assassin type characters, and unless the GCD is 0.2 seconds, melee will feel pretty damn slow :(

I thought the same but it looks like the in between action will be your character dodging or blocking attacks so it will still look like something is happening. Kinda cool actually. Definitely something different.
