Friday Update: Blood of the Empire #10

This week's Friday Update for Star Wars: The Old Republic brings us the continuing adventures of Teneb Kel, Maggot, and Exal Kressh in Blood of the Empire #10. With a strong focus on companion characters, this issue continues to expand on the dynamics between the Sith and his slave.

For those of you looking for more information on the game, be sure to check out our forums for active discussions on all things TOR; including great debate on space combat, referenced planets, class abilities, and nearly any other relevant topic.

Regarding the BotE issue #10... anyone else think we're about to see Maggot pop the top on a can o'whup@ss in issue #11? The panels on that last page of #10 were the most interesting to me.

Yeah I was thinking they'll save issue 11 (or whichever Maggot fights in) until they make some reveal on how the mechanics of companions work in game (as in for fights).

It doesn't matter what they reveal, even a single panel of Maggot fighting someone will end up with one of us here or in a forum somewhere writing an 800 page thesis on elements of companion combat in TOR and how companions will change MMOs forever. Honestly though, i keep waiting to hear Blizz announce a new companion system in Cataclysm, since WAR and other games with a similar journal/log/achievement system clearly led to the ach system in WoW. It should be interesting to see how companions potentially change the landscape of MMOs in the long term. Making every class something of a pet class is an interesting concept in many ways, i just hope TOR takes full advantage of it.

While the comic does reflect some aspects of the game, it is ultimately its own story too. I don't think Bioware would need to nail down the companion system before showing Maggot fight. The comic is not exactly representative of the game, but it can contain hints as to possible content.

I never said it was exactly representative. It just makes sense to have a companion-based reveal to coincide with the next part of the comic. Especially since the whole cliff-hanger for that part is Maggot heading off to fight with Teneb Kel.

hm so on this side http://www.mycomics.de/category/specials/star-wars-old-republik I've seen this comic weeks ago... they took it off after some days but still... I'm kinda confused why they stretch it that much.

Now that side seems to be "down" as they didn't even updated for 9... luckily on swtor-station they have all comics there, good for folks which have off. swtor side blocked at work

It's called "Friday Update" not "Friday ZOMG look at all these amazing new features!!!" It is an awesome bonus when we get an update with some new info to really chew on, but it is not mandatory. Anyone remember the WoW site prior to release/beta? Concept art ftw! The amount of info and content on the site and the frequent updates on game details are awesome. We're all just hungry for more info and/or playing the game itself. Only natural for some of us to get a bit overzealous sometimes in our thirst for TOR!

The comic wasn't an update. Sorry, but it is not part of the game development, it is just related media, and it had apparently also already been seen by about half of the people who cared.

There was no update this week. That's fine, there is no obligation to give an update every Friday, but it does represent a tiny little failure in one respect: there was no management of expectations. Sean should have made a quick post saying "This week, you get a comic, and that's it. Pay attention to PAX, that is the jar in which cookies may be found."

The kvetching on the forums is probably in large part a product of people lurking on the site all day expecting an update that never came.

It is an update since it is something new being added to the official website. It is not an update to game mechanics or what we know about the game, but it is still an update to the site. Fan Friday is typically mostly fan art and stories but even that is still an update because it is new content being added to the site - even when it is mostly a recap of things that can be found on the forums.

Right on. I remember last year during PAX I was cheering when Blaine Christine showed us that we are going to have "/dance".

I agree. This would make the 53rd consecutive weekly update we've gotten. Can you name any other game that provided that amount of information and communication to the community? I can't. The fact that we get that much communication at all is awesome to me.

One of the DH interviews at the Star Wars convention, can't remember who it was now, I think it was Drew, but I Quote.. "Even if we released the game, there would be people saying, Pfft, not much of a Friday update". What makes me sad is TOR is going to be so succesfull, Bioware are going to need an army of moderators or the official forums will be as bad if not worse than the WoW ones. Thank the lord for DH, MER, MOE, and a handfull of mature websites focusing on TOR.

I hate getting sucked into debates on the Official Website, because some idiot will post a load of rubbish and I just get annoyed and never want to go back to check on some very good posts, made by informed and mature fans.

My guess, we will see some info on Crafting at PAX and they are keeping quite until then.. Well thats what I hope anyway :)

I would be ecstatic if we had some real crafting information come out of PAX. My hope is that I'm not going to be disappointed - WAR's crafting system (and subsequent economy) left an extremely unpleasant taste in my mouth.

I would love to see a player-driven economy in SWTOR, but my primary hope is that they come up with something that is challenging and enjoyable. The rest will (hopefully) fall into place as the game progresses.

I think I probably would have gone insane if not for Darthhater. This site is a breath of fresh air - a place where you can still discuss the positive and negative aspects of the game without it devolving into a complete fiasco. It is not easy to have a civil conversation on the main forum, because people think they have to shout over other people to be heard.

Love the site, and keep up the great work DH staff.
