Friday Update: Corellia and Blood of the Empire

This week's Friday update is the reveal of Corellia, the fifteenth playable planet, and Blood of the Empire Issue 11. A few months ago, there was a dissected image of a music sheet with the word "Corellia" as part of the title during the "Music of The Old Republic" video, and we speculated this meant Corellia was in the game.

For those keeping track, out of the 15 revealed planets, we have the following tally going regarding political alignment: five Republic, two Neutral, six Independent (including the "no government" Hoth), and only two Sith planets so far.

Home to some of the Republic's most influential leaders, the notoriously independent world of Corellia is of critical strategic significance. It's been a symbol of personal and economic freedom since the Republic's earliest days, and it's become the center of all the Republic's industry and enterprise. Despite long-standing evidence of corruption in Corellian government, the citizens' have always been staunchly loyal to the Republic. Losing contact with the planet and receiving images of destruction has caused grave concern in the Senate for what may be happening on the ground in Corellia's capital.

Access the HoloNet to learn more about Corellia. Check out this video to see the images of destruction that are causing so much concern. Also, don't forget to visit the media section for never-before-seen screenshots, concept art, and wallpapers showing the scene from every angle.

In the eleventh issue of Blood of the Empire, Teneb Kel faces off against his enemy, Exal Kressh, for the final time. Two Sith apprentices, both aware of the secrets of the Emperor, now locked in battle in the tombs below the Sith Academy on Korriban--what will become of them? And who will choose the future of the galaxy?

Check out the latest issue of Blood of the Empire now.

Gordon Walton, BioWare's co-Studio Director and Vice President, made his third post ever on the official forums in response to a thread discussing how will the developers handle cheating in Star Wars: The Old Republic:

Two words:
1) Actively
2) Harshly

Looking forward to your patronage!

Glad to see official confirmation of Corellia. The war-torn theme is interesting. In addition to Hoth, I can see Corellia as a major focal point for ship upgrades. The look of Corellia reminds me a little of SWG, but Bioware's taking it into a new direction.

I was thinking about this release and I started to think about Centerpoint Station. Any one else think this might come into play with this planet. (I tried to find an actual creation date, but Wookieepedia isnt very reliable for the date)

Even though Wookieepedia isn't that reliable, the station should be there in our (SWTOR) time. I join with what was said in the podcast... just to see the centerpoint station would be hugh, I don't need to visit it.

Personally, I'd rather see some new stuff about Corellia itself. If Centerpoint has to be there, then I hope it's by mention only. I think we're already "pre-visiting" too many things in this game as it is.

Centerpoint Station is very old, although it apparently wasn't "discovered" as a weapon until much later than this point. They just saw this giant, floating thing above them. Maybe something will be retconned in for the story, but I doubt much more beyond a few passing references will be made.

Except center point has never been fully explored. It might not come into play as a weapon, but it's still a really interesting place that could come into the story. Both the central living space and the maze like coordinators.

If the underworld of Coruscant can have things like Corridor ghouls, imagine what the older structure of center point station could have.

What the game needs is a former republic planet ceded to Sith Control due to the treaty. A lot of "contested" worlds still have the republic having nominal control with the empire trying to usurp that control.

Other ideas for Sith Planets: The location of the Sith War Machine, where are the Sith building all of those ships and robots? Mygeeto also seems a decent idea for a Sith Controlled planet. Eriadu might work although its might be too far away from the Sith. There's always Ord Cantrell which was a resort world in the Post-Jedi era that housed the Imperial Ruling Council. It's Coreward of Dantooine which also might be an Imperial run planet.

The discussion on planets also makes we wonder whether there will be "instanced" planets where there are only referenced as part of a quest and not located on an actual social hub because the backstory of the planet doesn't allow for it. I'm thinking a place like Yavin falls into the category. Where there's no "civilization" and the "McGuffin" to make it a PVP battlefield isn't substantial enough. So you have a planet that only exists as a flashpoint. Of course it's BioWare's game and they could probably create a strong enough reason for both factions to have a persistent presence on the planet.

I agree. Bioware needs to hire you.

If I remember correctly during the "Threat of Peace" comic it was mentioned that Rhodia had been occupied by the empire and left to fend for themselves due to the treaty. That would be perfect for something like this.

Actually, revisiting farmer field Dantooine after a transfer to the Empire might give Dantooine the flavor it needs. Lets see those peaceful farmers deal with their new Imperial Governor and his Storm Troopers. Might be fun to get in the middle of.

Yes please. BioWare, make this a reality.

    This is a great idea.

This is cool, I love Corellia. I think gameplay on this planet will be awesome.
