EA Reaffirms 2011 Release For SWTOR

Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown today reaffirmed Star Wars: The Old Republic will release in calendar year 2011 / ERTS financial year 2012 in a presentation at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference. Brown mentioned this is the first time that they officially stated the highly anticipated MMORPG will ship in calendar year 2011.
Brown didn't make any further statements in which quarter of CY11 the game is scheduled for release. Details of the revenue model of the game weren't explained, although we should note SWTOR was missing from Brown's short list of Free-to-Play / microtransaction examples. EA is also in the process of restructuring many of its licensing agreements originally contracted years ago to account for multiple platforms, such as iPhones and iPads.

"The biggest part of our portfolio next year will be the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic," Brown said before entering the Q&A session which did not contain any questions about SWTOR.

Click here to listen to the broadcast and the accompanying presentation is also available with mentions for CY11 on page 3 and page 13, and a SWTOR logo is viewable on page 6.

Darth Hater covers Eric Brown's presentation at the UBS Annual Global Media and Communications Conference on Tuesday, December 7, 2010, as well as the upcoming ERTS earnings statement scheduled for February 7, 2011.

Update: At UBS 38th Annual Media and Communications Conference, EA's CFO Eric Brown stated Star Wars: The Old Republic would be available in CY11. This follows prior statements mentioned in this article of CY11.

May the 4th (be with you). There my money go. I got this feeling since EA announced "spring 2011".

I've been hoping for May 4th for a while now. I mean, come on, the marketing is perfect! :D

Well, so far it seems on track. I can't wait to play this game. That said, like some of the posters, I'm getting ansty and wanting less of the updates and more of the playing this soon. However, no matter how long it takes to put it out, I WILL pick it up and play it. I've been registered to the official site since 2008, and it's been over two years of following this game. I'll follow it another year if it means that we a) get a great mmo, and b) get a great Star Wars mmo. Right now, all I want to know besides a concrete release date is whether or not Rodians will be a playable species. I trust BioWare at this point to not put any crap out.

May seems like a logical and ideal month to release SWTOR, thats when many of the Star Wars movies came out in theaters, so why not SWTOR too? I doubt thats how Bioware planned it, but it's just something to think about. :)

I was hopeful of a Spring release date, and despite earlier videos of just saying 2011, I still thought Spring was believable and still is. But the fact that EA is now saying that SWTOR WILL ship in 2011, seems like they are starting to force Bioware into release dates, which is bad. If the game needs delays, they can delay and delay, but if EA forces the game outta their hands, thats bad news. Hopefully Bioware is prepared for a 2011 release date which I am positive they are =)

Everybody Panic! Pictures, Images and Photos

Sorry, it had to be done. This is good news, not bad news.

Come on -- you all know Lucas can hold the game back if they don't like how something looks.

LMAO love the graphic emlaeh. Weither it is april 2011 or December 2011. I will wait as long as it takes for Bioware to put all the polish they need to make this star-tacular game shine!!

I suppose that is one way to look at this information... another way would be to see it as BioWare keeping their parent company EA informed on the state of their progress, and that information being reassuring enough to EA that they felt confident giving a hard confirmation that the game would ship in 2011...

It is also possible that the glass of water in front of you is half full... I'm not saying it is... but it might be...

In the end its all about the mighty dollar. But look at it this way. WoW came out without all that end game crap an just had a normal game with instances. 10m 15m type. About a year later bam the 40m hit an the game blew up. So I believe they can do that with a solid game an toss out content patches as Blizzard does. It can take off very well with the spring release

Im holding them to there word. Spring of 2011. Im already getting very tired of the friday updates an bs. Im ready to play the game an explore what they built for the community in which they are an have built.

If this game goes beyound the Q2 Im pretty much gonna say screw this game an not give them my money. They already chill with EA an I do not like that company an dont buy the games in which they put out.

Now if Im not mistaken I believe I seen a article from some ceo or some head guy at EA say the game will not come out before march 31, 2011 an with bioware saying spring then well Im expecting that game before the end of June but after march 31.

If that's your attitude, I hope you do keep your vow of not giving them any money and not playing this game (although we both know you'll rush to the store the day it comes out like the rest of us regardless of release date). This is the attitude that ruins the community of most MMOs.

I think your ridiculous. If Bioware needs more time to fix things then so be it that they push it back. Imagine, they find a huge flaw. You think they should release it anyway? just for your enjoyment? which in the end that flaw could cause you to quit the game and many others. I'd rather them fix that flaw and make the best possible product. I hope you hold yourself to your claim of not playing in that situation because it's people like you that are greedy and have no sense of logic that put a stain on communities.

Nice to know that they haven't bumped it back, like many feared they would.

"Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown today reaffirmed Star Wars: The Old Republic will release in calendar year 2011 / ERTS financial year 2012 in a presentation at the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference."

    EA's 2012 financial year runs from April 1, 2011 - March 31, 2012.
    Q1 Apr 1 - Jun 30
    Q2 Jul 1 - Sep 30
    Q3 Oct 1 - Dec 31
    Q4 Jan 1 - Mar 31

We should be looking at Q1 2011 forecasts to predict if SWTOR will hit it's Spring 2011 release date.
