Jedi Immersion Day

On November 10th we were lucky enough to visit the LucasArts campus for a special Jedi Immersion Day. After being excluded from the entire 2010 convention season, it was time for the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular to show what they had to offer. During this event we received a great deal of information on the Crew Skill system and the Alderaan Warzone, but the real fun came from over six hours of hands on time with the two classes. Be sure to check out all of our extensive coverage of this event!

Did any of the reviewers happen to look at the system they were playing on. Specs would be awsome to know.

Looking at that first screenshot at the top, and then looking back at the first few alpha pics they released when they announced the game... they have come so far! Everything about this game just looks amazing. I don't care about WoW killers or any of that nonsense...i just want an amazing, immersive Star Wars MMO, and looks like i'm gonna get my wish!

WOW! Thank you so much Darth Hater for posting all this information. It's truly amazing. As a fan of the podcast I really can't thank you enough. Although it's just making me even more crazy wanting to play the game as soon as possible.

I know you have NDAs about some stuff you did, but could you give us a hint at what the PC specs were you played on? I need to know if I need to start saving up for new equipment or if I can play on my current computer.

We were on Alienware towers. No idea on the specs, but can probably assume pretty high end.

Ok seriously, if there was any lingering concern over character customization options, it needs to die right now.

I've now seen several dozen characters in screen shots, from demos, from Fan Friday releases, from BioWare-released videos, and NONE of them looked exactly alike.

I don't even know what to say...I can't believe the Sith Warrior with the ring-adorned facial tendrils from the species section on the holonet, the athletic black Jedi from the Designing the Light Side video, the Bounty Hunter from the Crew Skills video, and the Jedi Knight standing in front of the Senate building on Coruscant in the 2nd picture above, came from the same character builder...

    It's...I'm just speechless...

Just a minor question: is the lightsaber crafting cutscene the same for the knight and the consular? The action part with that big green monster thing :D felt a bit unneccessary and pointless but I admit, it fits into the knight's action packed 'fantasy'.

I haven't heard Darthhater's podcast on this topic yet, but I heard on another podcast that the enemy that shows up that you have to confront after building your first lightsaber is different from that big green monster the Knight has to fight. In that podcast, they said it was a couple of NPCs that you had interacted with in the Consular story. Therefore, it seems safe to assume that the enemy that shows up will be significant to your own class narrative---which is just ridiculously sweet.

"The MMO aspects of the game are pretty much indistinguishable from World of Warcraft at this point". This sentence says quite a bit. Any chance you can expand on 'MMO aspects'? I'd hate to get banned for saying something negative before I fully understand what you mean.

I don't want to speak for Dave, but I think he means the grouping, the transportation, the UI, the Quest Helper, the Mission Log, the social chat options, etc.

I don't personally like the default location of the chat box, and how it fades out completely during cutscenes. On the other hand, I really like the codex system, because I'm one of those people who likes collecting all those pieces of information in game.

Hey DH, I was just interested in your perspective as far as the graphics are concerned? BioWare, of course from the beginning, has gone for a more "stylized" approach in terms of the graphics. However, recent builds or videos of game-play if you will, seem to have some refinement that point more in the direction of photo realism.

I mean there is still the "painted" look to the game (which I have definitely become endeared to), but some of the characters (especially some of the faces) and environments have definitely evolved. Do any of you feel the same way from your recent or past game play sessions? Thanks.

This sounds fanboi/girl-ish, but every time we sit down and play the game, it improves over the prior build we played and we think that current build looks amazing. They keep topping themselves with the attention to detail, especially on the faces and environmental stuff.

In addition to his question: Would you say the two videos posted above represent the graphics well? Or is there quality lost in translation?

I know they were saying they were having trouble with their screen capture stuff early on, but I was curious if it was still a problem. It really looks good, and I would be surprised if it looks much better than that.

There is definitely a quality loss from translation from what you see in-game to something on YouTube.
