Friday Update: Fan Friday, Studio Insider, and Community Q&A

This week's Friday Update brings a Fan Friday and a Studio Insider. The Fan Friday features a good selection of avatars, wallpaper, emoticons, and other goodies, while the Studio Insider goes into depth about the design of Coruscant.

The second Community Q & A thread also opened, and once again questions are open, so feel free to head over and ask the developers about whatever parts of The Old Republic you want to hear about. With the opening of the second Q & A thread, the first one has closed, and some of those questions have been answered in the Community Q & A section of today's Studio Insider. More than a few hot button issues were answered in the Q & A, most notably one on PVE and PVP servers. DevTracker posts after the jump.

In this Studio Insider World Designer Eric Young gives us a glimpse at the brilliance of Coruscant, and Dallas Dickinson answers your questions in the Community Q&A.

They call me Eric Young. I've been a World Designer at BioWare for almost four years now; my job is to design the layout of planets, place buildings and mold terrain into mountains, valleys and roads. I work from the writers' storylines to make sure the environment makes sense, and plan out roads and landmarks so that players can figure out where they are and where they need to go. It is a job that gives me the opportunity to interact with lots of talented people across multiple departments, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I cant wait to force push you Republic Scum off the landing port to the bottom of Coruscant.

    (For The Empire) :)
  • #35 Sladecorp
Or how about the first time you force leap at a smuggler like me on Coruscant and catch a face-full of buckshot then fly backwards off the ledge? Heh.

*Watches prequels and sees Republic still controls Coruscant*

Go ahead and try to take control of Coruscant, you won't have it for long before the Republic takes it back. :)

Can't wait to see what the questlines will be for Black Sun Gang areas. I have always thought that the Exchange would roll over into becoming the Black Sun Syndicate. Maybe that will still happen via merger or something or maybe they've developed a Godfatheresque story where the small band of crooks grows into an enveloping criminal empire. Maybe we'll see it actually happen IN-GAME. How sick would that be?

Wouldn't it be deliciously ironic if the players' efforts to take down the Exchange led to their merging into and forming the Black Sun? "Nice Job Breaking It Hero" :)

There is at least two mentions of the Black Sun crime syndicate in the Studio Insider piece. This would seem to confirm the Black Sun insignias that have been seen in some of the videos and stills from SWTOR.

    From the Q and A:

"and even if a dirty cantina on Hutta isn't beautiful, it sure feels like Star Wars to sit in one, listening to music and watching a creepy Rodian hit on a Twi'lek dancer."

Sado... I thought there was a restraining order against you from being within the range of 100 meters of any cantina. You (and that Rodian race of yours) are plaguing the galaxy! Hitting on Twi'leks slaves is as low as you can get man, geez. hahahaha

I love your avatar. Rogue Spear was actually the last Rainbow six game I really got into.
  • #17 sado
Contrary to popular belief, Rodian Bounty Hunters have no rules or restraining orders.
  • #32 CornbreadChrist
You know what's funny. I read the "Tales from the Cantina" short stories, and it is mentioned that Rodians really aren't that well known as Bounty Hunters in Star Wars. Just thought that was a fun fact to point out.
  • #20 sgtsavage
Seemingly, you are right, as it were. You can be the creepiest bounty hunter alive for all I care! haha

Sado is the best kindo of customer drinks to much and if he damages any merchandise the hutts just enforce "break it, buy it" rule. BTW if your not hitting on or better hitting Twi'lek slaves what are you doing? Are you one of the pussies that believes in equal rights. GTFO out of my cantina go to your core worlds for that gay shit.
  • #19 sgtsavage
HAHAHAHAHA. Well, if Sado "pays to play" with her, then all the "equal rights" stuff goes out the window, problem solved.

And hey now, don't be talking smack about my core worlds. We have the finest effin Cantinas that will stomp on your slum back water world POS cantinas any day on the Galactic Calendar.
  • #21 Mako
Its true your Core cantinas are very fancy. But the whole charging 400 credits per drink is BS. Plus most the fun is lost with all your rules. For example No guns, 2am closing time, age limits, and dress code.

When you take away the threat and/or fun of bar shootouts your not really living. If I were to shoot a Rodian in a bar and say"It's ok I shot first" I would be arrested in your place. But I gotta say I do enjoy the clean restrooms the core world cantinas have.

Sometimes, I really love his fancy, clean Core cantinas. Sometimes, I just feel like destroying something beautiful.
