Trooper Class Trailer

As an early Christmas present, BioWare released a new class reveal trailer today for Star Wars: The Old Republic. This time the new trailer comes from Gamespot before the unveiling of it in the Friday Update. The trailer most notably features Jennifer Hale as the voice actor of the Trooper. Beyond the voice that every BioWare fan should recognize, several new abilities were unveiled along with possible companions seen. The video is also another good reason to see people shot repeatedly in the face by the Trooper. For those who are planning on playing the Trooper, this is the video to watch.

Seems like the grenade launchers have different effects. In an earlier video he shot this attack and it had a burning effect and this one seems to cause knockback or knockdown. But then again maybe knockdown from the grenade launcher is passive and it gains more abilities as you level it up. Whatever the case this attack did some kind of knnockdown or knockback that stopped the trooper not just a simple interrupt.

The unknown power the Sith Juggernaut used in screen #3, could that be some sort of boost to improve blaster deflection? He used it right before the Trooper unleashed a barrage at him.

After watching this, I really, REALLY don't want to play a trooper...

I don't have an explanation for it, but did no one notice that when the player character rushed into the room where the Sith Warrior was, the other troopers rappelled down from the ceiling behind her? Could that perhaps be the "Call Reinforcements" ability?

What about the image #4 of 10? By the droid there is also a smuggler. Could it be him the real companion instead of the droid?

I like the video, but i still don't like the running animations. Stiff and awkward.

You should see the running animation in WoW

It's no excuse that someone does something as bad as you... Did you ever have bad grades in school and tried to convince your mother that this was no problem "because friend XY also got a bad grade"? I tried, it never worked and it won't work for me with animations in PC games. Other than that, the animations in WoW are at least not so bad that they immediately jump you when you see them. The TOR animations ARE crazy, the torsos of the ppl are not moving a bit when they run. Its just roadrunner-like leg movement

On the bad grades analogy, it'd probably work best if you told your mom that the entire class failed(and they did). If no one else could do it right, you can't be faulted for not doing it either. Hell, if the smartest kid in class, the kid at the top of the class who has never failed before, failed then you'd probably have an idea that the test was hard. I think somewhere in what I just said a WoW analogy can be seen.

Besides, TOR's pre-alpha, give them some slack. :)

It is still early in the developement process (I don't believe in a 2011 release), but this is what it looks like for 1.5 years now. I would polish first what I showcase most if I had to develop and advertise the game...

Only justified WoW-bashing please (or none at all, that would be quality).

The WoW animations are some of the best there are in games, considering most of the races in that game have such different bone / muscle configurations than our own human bodies.

Have you ever seen a fleshless skeletton swim? Well, the way they swim in WoW, that's how I imagined them to swim. Keep in mind that it's all casual and comical, but they're fine the way they are.

Blizzard is fantastic at animations, yet in Diablo III they don't seem to spend enough time on the animations since -those- are very stiff and repeative.

If you want a horrable example at how -not- to do walking animations, look at Fallout 3.

    Oh and.. Female Sheperd :D

I love the music towards the end of the trailer. The first bit early on in a fight scene is "Battle of the Heroes" from RotS, but towards the end I heard some TOR-original music. It's sounding very good.

I'm still baffled at Jennifer Hale voicing a Trooper instead of Satele Shan, but her Fem-Trooper has a good strong patriotic sound that definitely fits.
