Friday Update: The Great Hyperspace War

Lance Henriksen voices another entry focusing on The Great Hyperspace War in the Timeline section of the HoloNet as this Friday's Star Wars: The Old Republic update. The Great Hyperspace War tells of the explorers Gav and Jori Daragon, who stumbled upon the Sith Empire while looking for new hyperspace routes. Thought to be Republic spies, they were captured and imprisoned, but liberated during Naga Sadow's rise to power. As the new Sith Lord, he attacked Coruscant, leading his forces from a meditation chamber far from the battle. Ultimately, Naga Sadow was betrayed by his apprentice, and fled in exile to Yavin IV. The Republic razed Korriban, wiping away remnants of the Sith, leading them to flee to deep space and discovering Dromund Kaas, where the new Sith Emperor began to rebuild his Empire.

Over the millennia, the Galactic Republic has faced no greater threat to its existence than the brutal invasion instigated by Sith Lord Naga Sadow. It was a time in history when the original Sith Empire had reached the height of its power, and the Republic was poorly prepared for a conflict of such magnitude. Master Gnost-Dural looks back at the Great Hyperspace War and identifies the controversial decision that drove the Sith into exile and set the stage for the Empire's campaign of vengeance against the Republic.

BTC 1347 When two hyperspace explorers stumbled onto the remote world of Korriban, they never could have guessed the chain of events they were setting into motion. Over the previous centuries, the Sith Empire had grown in size and strength, and Korriban was the very heart of its dominion. The reigning Sith Lord, Marka Ragnos, had just died, sparking a brutal power struggle between rivals Ludo Kressh and Naga Sadow. The explorers' arrival marked the first contact between the Republic and the Sith Empire, and it created at an opportunity to end the power struggle. Naga Sadow seized the moment and rallied the Sith for a pre-emptive strike against the Republic under his leadership. The ensuing series of battles saw the Republic nearly destroyed, but Naga Sadow's machinations ultimately backfired, and the Republic drove the Sith back to Korriban. The Supreme Chancellor then directed Republic forces to ensure the Sith never returned by annihilating their civilization entirely-a move which would ultimately come back to haunt the Republic centuries later

The Emperor Is non other than Tulak Hord they don't know anything about him in the lore and they also never say he died or when he lived. maybe Revan know to pick up his stuff on Korriban unconsciously. plus his mask looks like something worn by a pureblood sith. maybe ?

Why not. It would be ridiculous to count anyone from the Golden Age of the Sith out as a possible candidate for being the Emperor.

First of all, interesting Timeline though for those which read those Dark Horse Comics it's a nice refreshing. For those which did not read them yet, definitely go and read them. It gives a greater background around why the Sith invaded republic space after the Daragorns arrived and that all of it happened pretty much by accident.

I hope we see a new personality instead of an existing character. Regarding overcoming time I throw Darth Andeddu and his Transfer essence or any other way of cheating death (Karness Muur, etc. ...). Given the Emperors appearance in the Thread of Peace Comic he looks too young to actual wield a power necessary to become Emperor. Given the chance that this young body is just a vessel would make sense to me. If this "Essence" belongs to anyone known... well as I said, I'd prefer a new character.

Offtopic regarding Star Wars comics and books: my personal favourite are still the Darth Bane books, for those which want to understand the dark side I think these are the books people need to read.

Even though it's clear Naga Sadow is not the Emperor, it's strange that Bioware has chosen him as the "representative" of the Old Sith Empire in the timeline video. Not mentioning Ludo Kressh or Marka Ragnos by name especially since the popular belief has been that Kressh the Younger is the Emporer. I don't think this video advances or retracts any potentials for the powerful Sith Lord's identity at all. We might can add an apprentice to the list of potentials, but the video is so vague it's hard to say. Naga Sadow I think clearly will play a very important role in TOR's storyline since they've mentioned him in two timeline videos already. What that role will consist of is unknown at this point.

I guess it's also important to realize that the story of the Old Sith Empire (Golden Age of the Sith) and the Great Hyperspace War comprises some 11 issues of Dark Horse comics. I've never read them before, but I'm thinking of buying both story arcs to see if there's anything wookiepedia may be leaving out.

Trust me--it's worth it. And if you can get your hands on the full-cast audio drama of the issues after (Sunrider/Qel-Droma story arc), that's pretty good stuff as well.

Kressh the Younger is dead I'm afraid. John Jackson Miller confirmed his identity as Elcho Kressh, who died shortly after the Great Hyperspace war because of a ruptured stomach...

    lame.

    When was this done?

    the book Knight Errant

That eliminates the favorite. I suspect its someone new BW invents. Best for a person from lore is an unknown that had little more than a name drop.

I was never convinced the Emperor would be Kressh the Younger---but I still think it will turn out to be a Kressh, when all is said and done.

The more these timelines go back, the more I'll be watching to see if the Kressh family (or their insignia) make anymore appearances. So far, the presence of the Kressh family is one of the prominent aspects of SWTOR media.

Gnost-Dural says Naga Sadow's name weird. He says it like "Suh-dow", like rhyming with "now". I was under the impression is pronounced "Suh-doe", like the last syllable rhymes with "shadow". Just sounded weird.

    Gnost Dural, noast dur ALL

Naga Sadow, nah gah suh DAOW as in ka POW

This is the way I pronounce those two names. Both Dural & Sadow could be pronounced several different ways.

It's funny you mention this. He's pronounced just about every person or place nowhere near how I pronounce it. On this particular name, I pronounce it like 'shadow' without the 'h.' He pronounces it like it's a replacement for 'BAM!.' Like "suh-DOW!!"

Awesome voice, but pronunciation like nails on the chalkboard to my ears.

Believe me when I say it's even worse if you have an Ulster accent. :)
