Saturday Update: Taral V Developer Walkthrough

As promised by Stephen Reid, BioWare released a new video today showcasing the Taral V Flashpoint. The 16 minute video features Director of Production Dallas Dickinson as he walks us through the flashpoint from the point of view of the Trooper, Jedi Consular, Jedi Knight, and Smuggler.

Working Dissection of the walkthrough is in the Media Gallery below. As with all dissections, we will not comment on stuff seen in prior videos. Make sure to keep checking out throughout the weekend for more content for the Dissection as we will add new content as we go. Check after the jump for the official developer post regarding it.

Visitors to this year's PAX East in Boston, MA are lucky enough to get to play through Taral V, a mid-level Republic Flashpoint. In the gameplay demo, a strike team assaults an Imperial compound on Taral V in an effort to recover an ancient navigational computer the Republic desperately needs. Their success depends on teamwork and skill will they prevail?

Don't worry if you can't join us this year at the show we've put together an in-game walkthrough of Taral V that takes you through the demo with developer commentary. Enjoy this in-depth look at the gameplay of Star Wars: The Old Republic!

Master Oteg totally sounds like Winnie the Poo

I dont know if anyone already noticed that, but at 2:50 theres a popping up violet icon that seems to be a symbol of a group with a +8. Could that be social points? What for? I mean, what happened in the conversation to make them win social points? Also, trooper took a roll dice of 150!! to talk (wasnt it between 1 and 100?).

I may be wrong, but I think your break down of the XP gained through the flashpoint is not correct (picture 96). If you go back and watch the XP bars, you will notice that they jump periodically throughout the video. Note how the Jedi Knight is close to leveling in the beginning of the video, however towards the end he only has roughly a quarter of a bar gained without gaining a level.

Looks like the devs took bits and pieces from several runs at Taral V to make this video.

    Am I right?

At 8:45 there is an effect that looks like hologram replicas of the Trooper surrounding the mini-boss. Thoughts?

Something feels a little off about the combat animations. I think it's that there are no reactions to hits. Sure they block attacks and connect blades, but for the attacks that land, they appear to just "take it."

I know thi is still closed beta footage here, I'm just hoping they fix that.

I noticed a couple of things about the UI, which is gorgeous by the way.

The first thing is that the names and health bars of units seems to fade out after a certain distance. Scrolling combat text hovers over the target rather than the player. A dynamic UI in a sense, impressive.

The second thing is that it seems that bioware took alot of care into designing the UI. Most, if not all, of the elements if the UI are kept at the bottom of the screen, leaving the players view uncluttered. I was wondering if any UI mods were going to be needed to play to my liking, but so far I'm loving it.

Oh, and another thing. Big font and buttons in the loot window! I hate those awful loot windows you see now a days.

I have a very serious question and I hope someone else picked up the same thing as me. Is Master Oteg's voice provided by the same man who voices Winnie the Pooh?

Oh thank god I'm not the only one! Hahaha

Well I'm glad I'm not alone either. All he needs is a honey pot and we will be good to go.

Ton of people seem to think that. I would almost agree except the original voice actor died a long time ago. Hmm...

I'm looking at the dev walkthrough dissection, and I noticed the roll on the trooper's dialogue option. I thought Dallas said a random number between 1 and 100. Images 1, 2, and 3 of the dissection show that the trooper rolled a 150.

It would be nice to see a Gunslinger occasionally.

I don't think the enrage for the boss pet was on a timer. I believe Mr. Dickinson said the pet got the buff after the other boss died.

And for some reason the tooltips were getting confused between character views, pics 16 and 77 are the same tooltip for different characters and seeing as the Scoundral doesn't have a rifle, I think we can say that soemthing was a little glitchy in the presentation.

I noticed in the dissection that the target avatar has a red glow indicating your aggro / threat,
In screens 16-21 you should see that nicely.
You can also see wich person has aggro on on the left party avatars.

I'm really loving the detailing on the weapons and armor.
