PAX East: Interview With Stephen Reid

Star Wars: The Old Republic Community Manager Stephen Reid took a few moments away from his PAX East duties to casually chat with Darth Hater about the abundance of yellow text we see in the DevTracker lately, the recent launch of the Guild Headquarter feature, and what it is like handling around one million forum members clamoring for a release date. As always, we'd like to thank Stephen Reid and David Bass plus the their hardworking team for the hospitality they showed the Darth Hater staff and all the fans at PAX East.

He made some comments further down in the discussion here, I think you might want to check those out.

So they removed companions from flashpoints an yet no game testing was done on it until pax. I thought they said they removed them because of game testing? Anyone else catch that its around 5:40. I suppose it was BW testing but that was something they must of decided on there own an changed it. Ive actually heard them talk about from DH coverage on interviews (GJ btw) afew things that wasnt solid in game or might come after launch when in the past they said they wouldnt talk about things unless its in the game an working. They are really really confusing when it comes to information about the game.

I personally think they are tring way to hard to make the game work right from the get go. As if they was building a console game per say. Either that or they are making some really big changes in the game that wasnt to popular among the Beta testers. The game appears to be done pretty well for them when seeing the videos of game play. Yet spring release is out the window. Somethign about TOR isnt adding up imo

Don't know about low/mid level flashpoints, but this is a quote from George Zoeller, lead designer of the combat:

"You guys are again getting way ahead of yourself.

There are still companions in the game, we still think they are important, we are still looking at their role in endgame and we are, as James mentioned in the same sentence that now has everyone terribly excited, actively testing them.

We appreciate all your feedback - pros and cons - in this matter, but we would like to respectfully ask that you keep it civil with each other and don't get too far off track (no, we are not reducing the number of companions, no, companions are still an integral part of your character, no, we haven't said that there is no endgame content at all for companions).

We'll have further details on this topic as we conclude our tests on the matter and are confident that the decisions we make are final for launch."

Well, I've been a part of Darth Hater for a while and I've never heard of Steve on Weed. Dunno what the beginning of the interview's talking about!

Oh, Stephen Reid. I gotcha. Nice interview!

That guy hates his job so hard he cant even hide it from press.

What a poor community manager we got, would like to see another interview with him after the game launches and his real work starts, aka WoW Damage Dealing forums QQ and troll storms.

You obviously don't get dry British humor. Seriously, we're all like this, it's why we get cast in Imperial rolls.

Read down a bit, he assauges my fears of this exact thing with some pretty compeling arguments.

I didn't give him the benefit of doubt, making a knee jerk reaction based on my misunderstanding of another culture.

He's dealing with double the load Sean had to deal with.

Excellent interview by both the interviewer and the interviewee. Totally impressed and not at all concerned about what Stephen Reid thinks of his job. It is more than clear that he loves it and cares about the fans. He even mentioned that he was going to go and talk to the people in the back of the queue to make sure they feel appreciated.

Stephen Reid seems like a great guy imo. I don't get where people pull out the observations of that he seems like a very snippy guy, or that he hates his job. At least he shows some personality, while most others at the BW crew neglect to do so when they take part in an interview.

    I concur.

I'd certainly rather listen to him than James "I'm an excellent driver" Ohlen :P

Although I'm sure he's a lovely fellow really and very informative, I've felt like gnawing my own leg off during some of that guy's mumblings.
