Friday Update: Fan Friday and Studio Insider

This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is a Fan Friday. The usual new set of forum avatars, fan art, concept art, polls, and a Studio Insider with World Designer Jesse Sky on Cinematic Animation are contained in it. As always, you can find our media gallery of the concept art below and the Official DevTracker post after the jump.

This month BioWare is also looking for Community Questions on Classes for their Community Q&A. If you think you have what it takes to pose a question to the BioWare staff on classes, hit the jump for the guidelines from the Official DevTracker post.

The Old Republic community has a lot of questions, and we want to answer as many as we can. In fact, we're starting this new discussion on our forums dedicated to finding out what you want to know. Each month, we'll create a new thread for you to ask questions in. We'll be reading and reviewing all of your questions and featuring some of them to be answered in a future Community Q & A section of the Studio Insider!

This month, we want questions focused on the game's Classes. Please feel free to ask us anything you want to know about them!

Some things to remember when posting:

  • Please keep questions courteous and respectful

  • Don't ask a question that has already been asked

  • Ask only one question in the thread

  • Do not bump posts.

Keep in mind that there are some questions we're not able to answer right now, so please don't feel upset if we do not select your question, and please do feel free to ask it again in the future!

Thanks! We're looking forward to your reading your questions!

Studio Insiders are designed to take you behind the scenes with the developers of Star Wars: The Old Republic. In this edition, Animator Andrew Lauretta explains how animations are created for in-game cinematics.

This week's Community Q&A focuses on questions you had about Flashpoints. World Designer Jesse Sky has supplied answers with more details about these replayable multiplayer challenges. If you have a burning question about Star Wars: The Old Republic, don't miss your chance to post a question in the new Community Q&A Thread!

I am sadden that there was no podcast this week

PAX is demoralizing to the human body. I am amazed they (Darth Hater crew) had the energy to post the interviews which are great. Its not just the convention that gets you, its alluring draw of alcohol.. sweet sweet beer. It might be a week or two before we get to see all that they captured. If you want to hear a podcase with the DH crew though, hit up Mos Eisley's radio's site. Massive podcast with them, DH, Torocase, CRR, torsyndicate. Good stuff.

Im quessing video of tatooine and hoth for next friday as they showed at pax.

Cant wait to get my hands on a HD version of them videos to droole over :-)

Someone actually asked about them and they said that those videos were specifically made for PAX (possibly convention season as well) and they will most likely not be put on the site. They would more likely redo them for the site (that was also apart of the answer).

So does that mean the 'weather' effect was fake, and will not be in the game?
  • #34 chronium
They could have been post edited to look better in the videos but they should still be in the game.

Anyone else notice they temporarily added Hope Trailer smilies to the board then removed them? I used some a post I made in the Knight forums then they were gone a few hours later.

Yeah, I noticed that too...its too bad they took them away

Another underwhelming, for me at least, Friday update. I look forward to the podcast way more than I do fan Fridays at this point.

Seriously? What were we supposed to expect after they had three updates to the site last week? Wednesday we had the Guild HQ, Friday we had the Fate of the Galaxy trailer, and Saturday we had a 16 minute gameplay demo.

This was a bonus... and something they did not have to do at all. They could have just spread those three updates I mentioned across three separate Fridays and said, "Well, they were updates to the site for people who didn't see the PAX East footage posted elsewhere."

Fan Fridays are my least favorite, I'll give you that. Though I certainly didn't expect much the week after Pax East, and with that said, I guess I'm thankful that we got the FF out of the way on what was expected to be a down week anyway (for me atleast).

So what's the excuse for the light weeks before PAX? And what is wrong with me saying I enjoy the podcast more than fan Fridays?

There's good humour and intelligence in the podcast and it's very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this fan friday since I wasn't expecting anything else after PAX. I especially loved the fan art this time.
