Facebook Image of the Week 5.4.11

This week's Facebook Image of the Week is a new image of an Imperial Transport fail.

After a catastrophic systems failure on Tatooine, these Imperial troops must find another way to transport their prisoners securely off-world.

For ease of reference, we compiled a Facebook Image of the Week Media Gallery containing all the images which you can view below.

The transport looks very out of place to me. I would expect to see more environmental effects on it like sand in the tracks, a film of dust over the lower half of the vehicle, there's no track marks behind the vehicle from where it came from, there's no foot prints from the soldiers etc etc. Yea I can see why the soldiers might not leave footprints because of game mechanics but Imo a very poor choice of ss.

Wind can blow the marks away. So may be they have been stranded long enough for the wind to blow the track marks away.

Look it just looks out of place. A thing that size is going to leave massive track marks and I don't see any wind... cause with wind in a desert means = sandstorm. None of that here.

The transport is a static object much like a building. On something that size they ought to have dressed up the skin of it at least. I'm sure the buildings on Tat have plenty of weather effects and altered textures on them.

I don't expect everything in ToR to be run through the art department 26 times but it's just not a good choice from Bioware to highlight this particular ss.

The one thing I can take from it is that there is deffinatly some sort of Imperial presense on Tat.

The sand storm came, and left. This is the after math. It is possible to fit that in. But I digress, you are correct that it should leave some kind of impact on the sand for better immersion. However, it is not that big of a deal, if you are saying that these machines are so big that they will leave tracks on Tatoonie even after weather effects, then Tatoonie should be full of tracks instead of smooth rolling dunes.

Which is also not the case in reality, if we look at pictures of a desert where there could have been heavy machinery moving through, a sand storm would quickly fill up the marks covering them up, much like a snow storm in a dust bowl (as they call it for ski/snowboard lingo).

Also the weather effects are fine as they are. Sand does not stick to objects (they could be in between the cracks after a sand storm--that makes sense), so it would be a dusty film on the vehicle which I assume would be a high graphics card effect (high end graphics card effect for the overall dusty effect since it would be something subtle). So maybe that will be in, but as it is with a Tatoonie effect it looks fine to me.

What do you think should be included other than the tracks to bring out more of the Tatoonie effect of weathering?

I sort of agree, it's an awkward screenshot, also the imps seem out of place on it. :/

Look at the middle right of the picture. It seems to be track marks as some darker colour lines. I do think there are tracks.

About rust and sand all over the craft, I do not think it is that bad at all, you see some differences in the colour of the plates of the rear, like dirty, and anyway, it could be a rather new transport coming right from the hangar :).

There was no sand storm. What ever happened to this vehicle happened very recently. If there was any kind of sand storm the dead bodies would not look like they were just dropped there, the vehicle would have a considerable build-up of sand against it and most obviously, there wouldn't still be fires raging about it.

The picture is fine imo. Just not a good picture to highlight. I don't expect every single thing in an mmo to be amazing. This isn't poor game design, it's a poor marketing choice.

Yea, you are right about that, but the bodies have to be like that even if they have been there recently or not, because it is a game.

However other aspects have to show the vehicle has been there for a while or not, and the things you pointed out shows that it is recent such as the fires, and the lack of the sand built up.

Hopefully they take note of your observation and make the corrections. So if it is recent then the only thing that is missing is the tracks on the sand.

Well I'm not trying to be all nit picky about it. It's an mmo and I don't expect everything to be perfect. There are limitations. For example I don't expect static spawns of npc's to leave footprints in the sand, that would be a bit much to expect in an mmo. I just think this ss was not a good choice to highlight because by making it the fbook potw they are basically putting a glowing neon frame around it.

Catastrophic system failure? It must have been the keep-the-tank-from-exploding-and-catch-fire system.
