Gamespot Reveals Sith Inquisitor Video

Just a few hours ago Gamespot posted the new Sith Inquisitor Class Video. This video marks the seventh class video for Star Wars: The Old Republic, with only the Jedi Consular left to go. Now all the Sith Inquisitor fans (many of which are part of the Darth Hater team) can now point to a single video when someone asks them why they plan to play the SI.

You can watch the video here and we will be embedding it shortly.

In addition to the new video, Gamespot also posted an exclusive interview with Georg Zoeller and Daniel Erickson talking specifically about the Sith Inquisitor. You can find that interview here. Hit the jump for a few select passages from the interview.

This video is chalk full of new images with first look at many Sith Inquisitor powers and the first in-game screens of the Geonosian. At this late hour, we aren't certain when it will be up, but be sure to keep your eyes on Darth Hater for the inevitable dissection to come.

Gamespot: We understand that much of the character's design and story have been built around themes of treachery and manipulation. How will this come into play later in the character's career?

Daniel Erickson: The inquisitor is the thinking-person's Sith. They are looking at the larger picture and trying to discover what's really going on. It's perfectly possible to pound your way through the populace in your bid for power, but [it's] much more satisfying to pull the strings instead. Inquisitors can make their own alliances, turn allies against each other, and generally steeple their fingers together and declare that things are proceeding exactly as they had foreseen.

Gamespot:How can a lightning bolt-shooting Sith inquisitor successfully join the path of the light side and stay there?

Daniel Erickson: The inquisitor does start in the darkest place of all our classes, but the path to redemption is always there. On their best behavior, inquisitors are what Palpatine appeared to be: powerful, charismatic, and willing to make the tough decisions to defend their people. As an inquisitor, you will find there is usually a diplomatic route to control, and once that control is achieved, it's up to you how to use your power.

They get a bubble shield. Perhaps this skill is strengthened via the Assassin's Tanking tree, making it a regular tank cooldown, whereas all other specs are still able to use it as a survival cooldown. Very smart, BioWare.

I agree, the same ability could work as both a tank cooldown and a healer/dps "oh sh*t" button. All they have to do is make the base power ok for soloing (with companion) but not really amazing for flash points or raids. Then use talents, or whatever they are in TOR, to allow tanks, healers, and dps to alter the base ability in different ways. Then, if BW needs to adjust the power for a certain playstyle, they can change the talents rather than nerfing the base ability and messing up its use in the other build. Blizz never seemed to understand how to change abilities for one spec without destroying others, let's hope BW can figure it out.

Cool vid, but I think the Sith could have done a lot better without the glowing eyes. For me it seems to make the whole jedi thing to much like a fantasy game, aka wowified. Otherwise I liked the vid.

Well, the Force always introduced some fantasy elements into the sci-fi of Star Wars. That is what makes Star Wars so great, that it has everything: it's a space opera, and a western, with samurai influences, and a fantasy fairy tale with wizards and young knights rescuing a princess. Try to separate yourself from WoW and just see it as Star Wars and you'll realize that this is an important part of Star Wars for fans who enjoy the fantasy side of the universe (my friends and I have always referred to Star Wars as "Sci-fantasy" rather than "Sci-fi"). It's just as important as the bounty hunter with tons of cool tech gadgets, scoundrel smugglers, and brave Jedi knights errant are for other people.

Of course I do understand where you are coming from and that is kind of my point kinda... What I mean is Star Wars has magic, aka, the force, i get that. However, what I mean about the fantasy and the eyes is Star Wars has always presented it's magic in different way, even though they have the same elements of effect.

The glowing eyes is not something really seen in the movies or games of anything Star Wars, maybe in the books, but not in other media as far as I'm aware.

All that being said I get why they did it, but I wish it was in a different form other then the glowing eyes.

I can understand, i sometimes have a hard time distancing myself from WoW and get irked if i see things in TOR that remind me of it. At the end of the day we just have to forget WoW and see this game as a stand alone product with art assets that are original and badass in their own right. I dig the glowing purple eyes, personally, as it feels very much like a character who has given him/herself over to the dark side and allowed it to become a part of him/her.

"Inquisitors can make their own alliances, turn allies against each other, and generally steeple their fingers together and declare that things are proceeding exactly as they had foreseen. "

    Excellent.

I'm really looking forward to some intelligent dark side choices. Maybe killing everyone isn't the best way to power. A true master of the force wouldn't waste such valuable tools so carelessly...

My complaint with the KOTOR games is that every dark side choice made you look like you made the choice just to be a d*ck. I am hoping that the Inquisitor will have much more manipulation involved in his or her choices.

By far my favourite character through Kotor 2 was with a Sith Witch who could only use force scream, bolter deflection, hand to hand and the various physical buffs.

Since the Darth Hater guild is going darkside, I will be playing a Sith Witch for sure (though I am a guy, deal with it).

is this the friday update? :s

Man I hope we get a timeline tomorrow since this is the Thursday update. Been a while since we had one of those.

Well guess I gotta be the jerk who complains a little bit. As long as it has taken to get this video for the SI, I would expect at least a little bit of the Assassin AC in there. By that I mean some fighting with the double bladed lightsaber. After adding tanking to its capabilities Bioware has to know people want to see it in action. Oh well, the stuff they did show looks pretty good, just too bad they completely ignored half of the class.

They showed her stealthing and killing the Jedi, they showed her putting up a lightning shield to fight off a bunch of guys, and it's possible that move where she held the guy up with lightning before impaling was an Assassin move.
  • #59 Socrates
Yeah but if they were showing the assasins side of with the shield and the stealth, she should have been using the double saber. I just really want to see how that is shaping up.

If you think about the purpose of these videos, to showcase each class and demonstrate what they can do, it makes sense to focus on the Sorcerer side of the SI. Yes, the Assassin will appeal to a lot of players, but if you are a casual follower of TOR, seeing this will quickly demonstrate that the SI is your ranged Force dps. Showing the Assassin would have seemed pretty similar to the SW. I imagine they did it this way to show off the differences between the two classes and reinforce the idea that players who prefer mage-like classes will have a class that feels familiar in TOR.
