After the GameSpot Reveal of the Sith Inquisitor, Star Wars: The Old Republic released new information today for their weekly Friday Update to fulfill the desires of those leaning towards the Dark side. Whether you plan to play an Assassin or Sorcerer, the Sith Inquisitor, filled with treachery and deception, pull the strings of the galaxy to meet their end-goals. The video is embedded below, and you can also view and download it via the official website.
Exclusive to Darth Hater, BioWare's James Ohlen describes the differences between the two Advanced Classes of the Sith Inquisitor:
The Advanced Classes... all they do is build upon the abilities of your primary class. So it isn't like you're losing the abilities you get up until then. If you're Palpatine, you still have a lightsaber, and you still use it like in Episode 3. You just prefer to use lightning and it is probably the better route to engage in combat.
If youre going the Darth Maul route, then youre going to be much more close-combat. Yes, you still have some lightning and other dark powers, but you're much more effective when you leap right into combat and engage in melee.
A new biography entry is available for Khem Val, the Dashade companion for the Sith Inquisitor. As a former servant of the Sith Lord Tulak Hord, Khem Val feeds on the power of Force-users. New information is available including screenshots and a fly-through of the Fury-Class Imperial Interceptor, the personal ship of both the Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor.
Our Working Dissection and screenshots from the update are the galleries below. As with all Dissections we will not mention stuff in past Dissections. If you find something you think we should point out, add it to the comments section of this post and if we use it we will credit you for the find. Aurebesh translation and Official DevTracker post follow the jump.

Inquisitors, the dark geniuses of the Empire, are masters of treachery and dark Force power. Feared as much on the battlefield as they are by prisoners and political enemies, they will stop at nothing to earn themselves more power. The paths to power are many, though. Is your Inquisitor an Assassin, striking down enemies from the shadows with cunning tactics and a skilled blade? Or are you a Sorcerer, a triumph of the dark side, smoldering with ambition and uncovering dark secrets of the Force to destroy your enemies?

Posted 5/23/2011 8:53:49 PMI think the smoke effect is fairly new or the shakey cams at Pax couldn't show that much detail.

Posted 5/14/2011 12:48:28 PMIt's a fine line and I know these things need a visual cue for the purposes of video games but it is not beyond the artists who create these effects to get carried away and it only gets worse the more they're allowed to push things to extremes.
By the time we get more powerful abilities and a raised level cap in expansions they're trying to outdo what went before and you've got all kinds of crap that just doesn't look or feel like Star Wars anymore.

Posted 5/14/2011 2:57:50 PMI'm curious to see what they'll do with the JC, though, as that seems like it would be harder to keep it from becoming too priest-y.

Posted 5/14/2011 3:54:31 PMThe specific effect actually looks like two old warlock abilites from the Lich King era of WoW (haven't played since).
As I say, if this is a mid or even high level SI now, then how much will they have to escalate the swirling black clouds of death by the time we can reach lvl 60 in an expansion just to show we've gone up in power?

Posted 5/14/2011 9:34:26 PMSo yes, some things are inevitably going to look similar to what we've seen in other games. The real issue is the context of these abilities and how they actually function. We only saw that (what appears to be a life drain) ability for about 2 seconds, so within the larger scheme of things it could feel very different from what Warlocks or Shadow Priests in WoW could do. Then again, i love it and think it looks freakin' awesome...so i'm biased. :P
