Yeah I agree with this (and I never even played EQ1). It would be cool to see MMOs do more with the aggro/alert system than they currently do usually.

With that said I was kinda glad to see TOR isn't filling space with mobs unnecessarily at least. Was annoying how some of the journos were questioning why Tatooine looked empty at times, even though there were a bunch of mobs nearby. They just chose not to throw hundreds of mobs into an area for the sake of it, instead changing density based on how the environment should feel.

I'm glad they showcased several different abilities. I know it's not in the SI:S's role, but would have been nice to see some lighsaber skills/mechanics. Also would have liked to see more of the IA abilities but in all, gameplay and companion mechanics look very smooth. Also, the quest/story system looks great. Interested to see if similar videos are posted highlighting other classes.

You can't have E3 without facial hair. I gave up trying to get the guys to shave for it.

Wow nice catch on the 3d dialogue wheel. Eagle eyes.

After seeing the AC and more of the skills.... Everyone get your cookie cutters out gonna mass produce classes now
  • #90 Kaiser
You can't possibly say that with an iota of confidence. The skills that you were shown were mere examples, and we haven't been given full talent trees to check out for "cookie-cutter" classes.

But can you say that with a lot of confidence? I say that because im seeing a lot of mythic influence in this game as far as classes go, some good some bad. Played WarHammer for a long while, but they ended up doing the same thing as other MMO's to a T. Gaming industry runs on Evolution or Revolution much like everything in any market. Cookie cutter classes work, they are balanced, they provide viability, and they allow for easy tweaks to make just right or close to. The problem I see and this is my opinion, is that it doesn't change anything or make it so you can create the iconic character. I cant be the only one that was pretty disappointed with E3 for Swtor considering this is (hopefully) their last visit before launch. The raid preview was nice but the gameplay footage (to me) was kind of bad. Some things i loved like the quest VO and companions but the combat seemed really stale. Id really like to know if the video made any SI:S want to play the class even more. This is all just my opinion though as a worried fan.

Before launch, there is still the GamesCom. They revealed some new information there last year, why not this year too?
I agree, though, they could crank up the speed of the combat a bit... it feels a bit too static, at least in the videos.

I think you make some valid points ,but the bottom line is we still no so little about the AC and how they truly will function
I do see what you are saying about the combat in the game in which I to was a little worried until I considered a couple more factors.
First when you throw someone who has never played the game or that AC into a level 26 character nobody is going to have a clue wth they are doing. Even DE looked like he was struggling his BH due to the fact he has never played that AC which is also a indication of how truly different the AC are.
Second is that there still fairly low level characters.
Off topic I had my heart set on playing a gunslinger smuggler but the more I see of the commando or the SIA idk going to have to wait for the smuggler armor progression video I guess

Don't forget, PAX Prime in august. :)

I guess I have a mindset of how i want Tor to be while also keeping a mindset of realism. Maybe the better idea would to be to have someone who was experienced playing that character to show it off a little bit better. I really think the Raid video everyone thought was gonna come out would have saved the bad taste people have in their mouths (or made it worse). Glad they aren't just showing off crap that isnt finished though, I think the combat in a Raid setting or hell in the flash points would have made a lot of people giddy

I will agree with you, please for the love of all goodness, put someone who knows the class and abilities well next time, and show us how it's done by the pros :) I would like to see some proper combat, rather than ability-clicking newbies. I don't mean this in a derogatory way - I just want to see what real combat would be like had we been playing for 26 levels of the class already.

As for the Raids - I'm glad they didn't show much else. I want *something* to remain a mystery for when I get there, otherwise what's the point? My biggest peeve in WoW was having to watch a youtube video of a boss encounter to learn the fight. This ruined the "internal progression" I had with myself, and also a lot of the mystery surrounding the boss. My most exciting moments were when running as a guild we would come across a boss that we had never done before, had only basic knowledge of its mechanics, and still said "well, let's give it a shot!". It was new, it was mysterious, and it meant *we* could come up with something to counter it, not someone who had done it a dozen times before who we were meant to copy.

Also, Pax Prime better show off more PvP goodness :D

PS: That being said, don't be so negative on the game just from what you've seen so far, Grimsfate. They are keeping a lot of it hush hush for the very reason that they want YOU to experience it, not to be told it. ;)

the combat looks really fast-paced (for an mmorpg) in the Eternity Vault footage, yet slow in all of the solo questing footage-run up to a mob and shoot it in the face while it smacks you with its gaffi stick until dead. i believe this game will be at its best when in multi-player (that goes for pvp as well).

Game looks very well, even if this are turned down graphic settings. The quests are very BioWare - style, no doubt about that. I cannot wait to play, even if Tatooine isnt the planet I am looking forward to most.
