Im extremely excited for this game. However, I was looking forward to playing a Sith Sorcerer and I realize this is only level 25 content but this is one of the first classes Ive seen that the gameplay looks kind of boring. A lot of standing still and casting (which is to be expected from a caster class) but still... Anyone there play a Sorcerer to confirm or deny?

And maybe it's just me but I feel like the info coming out of E3 is kinda meh. Raid info is cool but they didn't really say anything people already assumed (that there will be end game content for large groups to engage in PvE or that there will be mounts). The "Return" trailer was un-freakin-believable but real information (like a release date) would be awesome too.

I was pretty much weened onto a caster role with my Arcane Mage in WoW many moons ago.

Standing in one place seems more dull than it is, especially when you're in-game and you are focusing on an effective rotation, or the mechanics of a boss fight. Casters don't always make for entertaining viewing, but the in-game experience will be much different.

As far as the information from E3 is concerned, I agree that it is a bit anticlimactic for those who don't live for raids. However, there is a very big difference between being "told" there will be raids, and being "shown" evidence of them. BioWare TOLD us in '09 that the game would have all the pillars of an MMO, but it wasn't until they showed those pillars in action (PvP, crafting, raiding) that people finally believed them. We live in "show me" times; it doesn't matter how many times BioWare reassured people that raids would be in the game, nobody was going to believe them until they saw visual proof with their own eyes. Now they have their proof.

If BioWare's raid footage kills some of the "this game is not an MMO" nonsense on the forums because up until now they hadn't shown large-scale endgame PvE content, then it was worth it.

Now the community can come up with all kinds of new irrational things to gripe about.

I was fine with the info at E3, but I agree on the Sith Sorceror. After months of deliberation this it the class I decided to go with as my main, but I'm a little surprised to see such a small dps rotation at mid 20's.

I know he was using a long cast chain lightning, a channeled force lightning, and a stunning lightning blast of some sort. Used his CC once. But aesthetically it was just a blast of lightning each time with very little variation. What is there is pretty though, I just hope the effects and rotation gets a little more diverse.

Good point about the caster looking boring to others watching, while probably feeling busy to the player himself. I can agree with that. But, as somebody who was going to play an assassin, that inquisitor looked pretty squishy. I am hoping there is some good stuff in that Darkness tanking tree.

I think they were simplifying the rotation in order to emphasize other things. You'll notice that the operative didn't use cover, either. Personally, I would have rather seen something more realistic, but I guess that's the way things go. I can't possibly accept the idea that *any* class will be stuck spamming a single ability, much less at level 25. Heck, even at level 1 you can work with a 2 ability rotation.

Well the Assassin is obviously going to be a bit tougher. He/she will wear medium armour opposed to the Sorceror's light. And being a melee character there will be certain melee tools to making it a viable playstyle. But casters will almost always be pretty squishy. Even the Elemental Shaman in WoW used to be a quite 'soft' spec.

And while the discussion about the rotational boredom is over, I still want to comment that the guy playing was obviously not too used to playing a caster. He targeted badly, shifted in midkill and clicked. With a bit more experience he would have bound his 3 attacks at the very least, and then it would look a lot more smooth.

So fret not, the SI looks to be a classical caster, which is not entirely bad given the general lack of real casters. :D

As for the Sith Sorcerer: if I'm not mistaken they are not restricted to ranged only attacks (ofc those will be their strongest abilities), they also have a variety of melee attacks like the Saber Strike which is a starting ability. The gameplays we saw were not showing those, but my guess those abilities are still there, and you can use them in between of any force cooldowns to maximize your DPS and avoid downtime.

I got to play the Operative on my first Tatooine run-through, and I don't think I touched cover once. It was much more about stealthing up to targets and backstabbing them, then using my Shiv as often as I could. Sniper was all about cover though. Rotation-wise, I stuck mostly to a couple of abilities, but that was because I was trying to get as far in the mission as I could in 20 minutes, and didn't want to take the time to experiment with rotations and stuff. I think if I had leveled up to 26 I would have used a lot more abilities, rather than just looking at the icons and going "I wonder what that does?"

the sith sorcerer is plain exciting compared to the gameplay we saw of the Jedi Consular in the Alderaan video.

Atleast the Sorc. is attacking - the Consular just sits back throwing big piles of the ground and healing :\

It's nice to see that there are lightside/darkside option indicators at the center of the dialogue wheel.

Nice to see a more choreographed version plus the extra bits at the end.

I do have a strong association with those pieces of John Williams' music though which makes them seem a little out of place when just pottering around on a speeder :P

WoW 2 is in the city.

I mean, just try to point every single WoWish element in this footage.

Because Blizzard never uses elements from another games, right. Warhammer Online, Guild Wars say hi!

To me it looked very SWG CU'ish.. swap out the "swipe" on the cool downs and give it a clock spin.. the blue UI..
