The Lost Suns Part 1 Dissection

On June 8, Dark Horse Comics released the first issue of The Lost Suns, a five issue mini-series based upon Star Wars: The Old Republic. Like Threat of Peace and Blood of the Empire, this series promises to include hints regarding what players can look forward to in SWTOR. In the following article, we take a closer look at the first issue to discover what possible clues are buried within.
Editor Dave Marshall explains what readers can expect from this series:
Welcome to the first comics series set concurrently with the events of the Star Wars: The Old Republic video game! While we've done two previous stories (Threat of Peace and Blood of the Empire) that take place during this era, The Lost Suns is the first one to unfold alongside players' in-game stories. Being a Senior Writer on the game, Alexander Freed has packed this series full of clues for gamers to appreciate once they dive into their characters online.

  • Opens with a flashback to a battle between Republic and Imperials for control of Rhen Var.

  • Several Jedi are introduced, some for the first time, others familiar to fans:
  • Syo Bakarn - Human Jedi known for his healing powers.

  • Bela Kiwiiks - Togruta Jedi Knight described as highly intellectual.

  • Jaric Kaedan - Human Jedi Master who is an expert in the Juyo-Kos lightsaber form.

  • Satele Shan - Human Jedi Master who leads the Republic forces into battle.

  • As the Jedi engage the Imperial troops, there are examples of dual-wielded lightsabers in a defensive position, a defensive Force shield, and a lightsaber throw attack.

  • Mention of several Empire weapons - Necroswarm colonies, Chaospheres, Crystalline Light.

  • Darth Mekhis, a female Sith Lord presented as something of a mad scientist, lands and confronts Satele Shan.

  • Theron Shan, son of Satele, is shown on Coruscant.

  • Advertisements on Coruscant reference an Imperial assault on the Esseles transport, one of the early Flashpoints in the game; the Czerka Corporation; and the Mantellian Separatist Movement.

  • Theron is a spy working for the Republic Strategic Information Service investigating a slave ring being run by the Black Sun crime syndicate.

  • Several races are seen on Coruscant, including Twilek, Weequay, Gammorean and Bothan.

  • Theron utilizes a cranial implant to access nearby computers. He fires a paralytic dart to subdue a smuggler for questioning.

  • Jedi Master Ngani Zho, described as "the greatest warrior of his generation," was thought to be lost in the war, but has shown up recently as a vagrant.

  • The Republic Strategic Information Service gives Theron a mission to track down Ngani Zho, last seen in the Imperial "black sector" known as the Vesla System.

  • Darth Mekhis is shown aboard a ship referred to as "Ror'Jhan," which translates to "She-Whose-Leaves-Sweat-Poison." The ship is technically known as the Javelin Dreadnought. A reference to the Javelin Dreadnought has been seen written in Aurbesh on the Jedi Consular Holonet page. (Credit to Xavier for pointing out this connection.)

  • Ror'Jhan has the ability to "sanitize" planets from space. Mekhis intends to present the ship to Darth Marr as a gift.

  • Darth Mekhis has also become aware of the presence of Ngani Zho behind Imperial lines and intends to find him.

  • Several canisters containing humanoids are shown aboard the ship; Mekhis refers to them as her Sith Knight creations.

A preview of The Lost Suns Part 1 is available on the official Dark Horse site. The second issue's release is due on July 13. Darth Hater will be keeping an eye on this series to see how the action unfolds and what additional clues we may learn about the upcoming game.
