Friday Update: Fan Friday and GamesCom 2011 Details

This week's Star Wars: The Old Republic Friday Update is a Fan Friday. Included in the update are two new polls, new wallpapers, and new Aurebesh forum phrases. Even though not part of the update, BioWare announced GamesCom details as well. GamesCom runs from August 18 and ends on August 21 in Cologne, Germany. New information and reveals will come out of the event and fans lucky enough to attend GamesCom will be able to get hands on with the Alderaan PVP Warzone and Origin Worlds. GamesCom attendees will also get to see demonstrations of a small amount of the recently announced Eternity Vault Operation.

As always, Darth Hater will be at GamesCom bringing you the news and reveals straight from the show floor. Look for our coverage starting next week.

With each Fan Friday, we feature creations from some of the clever members of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community. This time around we're shining the spotlight on some of the incredible artwork done by our fans.

Be sure to check out this month's Fan Site Spotlight where we talk to Chimaera, a great French site dedicated to bringing you the latest from The Old Republic.

Also, we compiled a number of images from the "Return cinematic trailer for you to download and use as your desktop wallpaper.

Any one else notice the French guy's Republic "join us" Poster depicts IMPERIAL ships above their heads?

All I could think about while looking at this poster was "Oh Frak, the Cylons have returned!".

Maybe they're lining up in an orderly fashion to surrender?

See, this sort of thing is why the French keep losing wars...

Fan Friday came a bit early this month, and also a bit skinny on info. Ah well.

Who is making the trip out there for the DH crew?

Ah, the always boring Fan Friday forum rage. I think seeing that end might be #2 on my most anticipated things about the game's launch, especially the rage that ignores the fact that there's a major game convention this week... Anyways, the art was fantastic, and it both inspires and intimidates me as a hopeful future artist. Despite what some people might say, it is important to highlight things like this for the community, so a greater sense of fellowship is created.

That said, I'm not celebrating this update, just not recognizing anything to complain about. I'm disappointed there wasn't a Developer Corner or Community Q&A this week. Those things were cool. Oh well, new stuff is certain to be announced in the next 2 weeks.

i think the reason for no community insider with this fan friday was because the q&a will be about pvp and they may be waiting till after gamescom or pax. this way their q&a wouldn't be just limited to things regarding warzones and not include things regarding open world stuff which i im guessing is what the majority of the questions in the thread will be about. of course this is all assuming the announce anything for open world pvp stuff at one or both of the conventions.

Like I keep saying, Fan Fridays are never bad or boring for me. But they usually come with a Developer's Corner blog on the creation of some aspect of the game, plus a Q&A related to a pre-specified subject(this month's being PvP). Always in conjunction with the Fan Friday itself. But we didn't have that this time. This was an incomplete Fan Friday.

You acknowledged the lack of Dev Corner so what I just said was redundant, but it is the focus of my disappointment about today's update. The biggest news for me was the name of Satele and Malgus' masters on one of the wallpapers' descriptions.

The animation was really good. However I really do not care what other people can do in their own spare time. Sad part is I visit the website for BW to give updates about ToR. Really wish they wouldnt show ToRs fans got talent crap. o well life goes on

This always happens when they get close to a convention. No point wasting the publicity of a reveal when it could have more impact by bringing it out the following week, and there 2 big conventions coming up.

GamesCom and Pax are the last conventions before the beta weekends too, so expect big things there.

Fan Fridays are never about reveals, but they do at least do a Developer Corner with a blog on making something in the game, plus the monthly Q&A with the devs on a particular subject of their choosing(this month's being PvP I believe). This Fan Friday lacks it unless it's in the works still for today.

With as much as they put out about the smuggler (and agent by extensions) I'm content for the week.

I am so relieved! I was just laying in my bed last night, just hoping that this weeks update would be about my favorite guild Chimaera. My dream came true! Now i can rest easily for the next 4 months waiting for swtor never having to worry that next weeks update might be a epic one. Cause you can't beat this weeks....

I am sensing some sarcasm here...
