PAX Prime 2011 is officially done, but we still have some things to share. Darth Hater filmed the final day's panel, Star Wars: The Old Republic: The Force is Strong with This One. The full panel video follows the jump. Enjoy. Full Presentation Video
It can be both. I imagine the two PvP bases are each off in there own little corners of the world with the solo content spread out everywhere else.
I don't think BioWare would force players into the situation of having to be flagged for PvP just to set foot on the planet. It's more likely that, if you're on a PvE server, you'll flag for PvP to participate in taking or defending the bases and if you're on a PvP server it'll be just like open world PvP on every other planet.
I about died laughing at the end of the op demo. And not in a mean way. It was like a flashback to just about every PUG raid I've ever done, and probably half of the guild runs, to boot. LMAO
Funniest part was later on stumbling across this bit of info from MMORPG.com:
MMORPG.com: So what can you tell us about boss mechanics?
Emmanuel Lusinchi: Well the final fight in Eternity Vault is really cool and has a very interesting mechanic; we can't wait to release it. However we do expect people will die and die and die trying to figure it out. There is also another fight that is an actual puzzle that you need to solve well you are constantly getting attacked that should prove to be interesting as well.
And then it goes on later to add:
They did say they understand that end game is extremely important and they hope to have an amazing one set up. SWTOR team has been dying to talk about the end game raiding, and were extremely relieved to finally be able to show some of it at the show. The end game will be extremely difficult, according to Emmanuel; the version shown was nerfed and people were still wiping.
The 1st time you encounter any of this stuff it will be extremely harder then what was shown at the Gamescom demos, said Emmanuel. It was nerfed at the show due to the fact we didnt want everyone dying all the time for the presentation. Lets just hope were all prepared to die.
D'oh. Guess that's what we get for talking about how easy the easy-mode raid looks. LOL
BioWare aren't known for their difficult mechanics. Fortunately for us, they assembled a team of developers for SWTOR that do know how to build complex MMO encounters with difficulty.
This should please those hardcore guilds that want to sweat like a pig wondering if people are going to handle their business and feel that rush of beating a boss on the most insane difficulty.lol
on the interwiev with all of them. at 1:42 it sounds like Stephen Reid picked up on something. either he said thay love the sandpeople or i love the sandpeople. And i think thats a supprice look on his face too. 8)
He may have not wanted that info out yet. I'm guessing every female toon (played by a guy) in a raid will be wearing a 'slave Leia' outfit. If you want to stand out you'll need to wear the gear you get in the raid.
Actually, you'll have to do the Operation before you can get the "epic mods" needed to make the "Slave Leia" outfit feasible at that high level. Sorry, boys, guess you'll have to wait until AFTER you beat the Op to have your strange sexual fantasy come to life.
(Seriously, I don't get the attraction for the Slave Leia outfit. There again, I'm a girl. Maybe I'm not supposed to "get it". *shrug*)
well works for some girls. 8) but then again that would also just excite more guys. But true. i would have to say yes and no for the leia outfit. Sure better then a girl in java suit. but not as good as a girl with ..... i got nothing.
I don't need it on any female toons I roll, but I'm not about to tell a bold faced lie and say I didn't love the thing on Carrie Fisher in RotJ. All (straight) men who saw that outfit on her loved it -- but don't expect them to admit it to a girl when she asks.lol
I will tell any and all girls in the world that I loved the slave Leia outfit. I would get a tattoo that says "I love slave Leia". I should, now that I think about it.
Having entered my teens shortly after RotJ came out, I have fond memories of the Slave Leia outfit, but somehow I doubt the MMO version is going to do much for me. I think a lot of the attraction relates to the fact that it was a happier time when it was actually a big deal that it happened, unlike today when it seems like nothing is ever left to the imagination anymore.
It is a huge thing -- especially if it functions like WAR's or DAoC's RvR PvP.
I think too many people are confusing Ilum's PvP by associating it with Wintergrasp or Tol Barad in WoW. If Ilum is SWTOR's RvR -- which, by all accounts, seems to be the case -- then it could not be further from Wintergrasp or Tol Barad. Those zones are on timers (every 4 hours). Once the battles ended in those zones neither the objectives or the vehicles were usable again until the next battle. In a WAR/DAoC-like system, however, the zones are always contestable, and the mechanics are usable at all times.
If BioWare's move to put Mythic in charge of PvP has brought RvR to an MMO of this scale... It's going to be epic.
