No Testing for September 10th Weekend

Moments ago on the official forum, Stephen Reid confirmed that there will be no testing for the September 10th weekend of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Hello all,

There is no Beta Testing Weekend scheduled for this weekend. There may be further Beta Testing Weekends during September, but we're not going to guarantee it. The weekend that just finished was really our first dry run of Beta Testing Weekends as a whole, and we have plenty of data to crunch, and decisions to make before we start things up again.

Further to that, as Chris Collins explained in another thread, we are about to roll out a major new build for The Old Republic. That build won't be ready for this weekend. Just as we did not feel it was a good decision to ask potential EU testers to download our client only to have to download it again, the same applies for this weekend.

That does not mean, however, that as soon as our new build is available we'll be rolling out a Beta Testing Weekend immediately. As with any new build of the game, we need to get feedback from internal testing and our ongoing Game Testing program before rolling it out to a massive audience. That process takes a while, and that time varies depending on how testing goes.

We rolled out this previous weekend as a relatively small scale event; from now we will do bigger and bigger events, but that doesn't mean it happens every weekend. When we do resume, we'll be inviting many more people in.

While many of you are excited and anxious to know what's happening regarding Testing Weekends, I want to point out that a lot of posts on the subject with a lack of corresponding posts from us does not mean that we're not listening, or not aware of your interest. It shows your interest in the topic, which is understandably high, but we will not always be able to react instantaneously.

In the past couple of days we've been preparing a comprehensive FAQ regarding Game Testing Weekends as a whole, along with some details about the weekend that just happened. We'll post that tomorrow - in all languages, as we know the subject is of interest to everyone.

This announcement follows news of the postponement of the EU testing round which you can find details of at the offical forum thread.

Personally, I'm fine with this, I would rather wait longer and have a game that works properly than get a game that is incomplete and/or crashes and glitches all the time now.

Their reasoning here makes perfect sense and I wouldn't be surprised if, like most companies, the people actually developing the game, and the PR people are different groups. The PR people were probably like 'we're going to do Beta Test weekends every weekend in September' and the developers are like '. . .uh, we've got a major patch we're implementing soon'.

Honestly, that they are even THINKING about Beta test weekends is a great sign because that means they pretty much have something that is functional and now they just need mass feedback to a)see how the game runs with lots of people playing and b)the more people that play the greater chance of exploits and glitches being found and it means they are no longer worried about there being major things wrong with the game.

Also, they aren't going to tell us EVERYTHING, what would be the point of that, that would spoil the surprise of things that end up on the internet and get spoiled(I say spoiled because of their drive toward making the story compelling) quick enough anyway.

Ah well, Star Trek will go F2P soon, guess I will use that to ease some of the Sci-Fi MMO need until SWTOR is released in Spring-Summer 2012, a bit later for Europe of course, since... WoW did it too.

    Quite disappointing.

This blinding hot white rage has at least lessened the obscuring and tepid ivory rage of the changes to the new edition of the original trilogy by Lucas.

I hope i am wrong, but this just further confirms my feeling that this game will not come out by december if bioware is truly aiming for the smoothe and high-quality launch the devs keep talking about. I have not played the game yet myself, and I know many who have played keep saying how polished and relatively bug-free it seemed. Still, we have received a scant amount of knowledge since E3 --huttball being the major reveal -- and PAX was a joke. We still know of only one operation, only a few flashpoints for each side, the new companion system upgrade they have promised has not been revealed, etc... It seems like every time I see a dev interviewed he either won't answer the question at hand or he says that the issue or system in question is still in testing and not locked down. Such overwhelming vagueness so close to the purported release window gives me the feeling they are much farther away from a finished product than they are letting on.

Oh, and I rarely ever post on forums and certainly try not to nerd-rage over games...but let me take this one opportunity to just say Fuck Fuckity Fuck Fuck!

I agree with your last sentence!

I have played it. I'm not going to break my NDA or anything.. but I believe your friends assessment is inaccurate.

You just did break NDA, genius.

No, Genius, he did not break NDA by saying he is in the beta.

    Flem1....heres your sign

I can't say that I'm surprised, honestly. It sucks that we won't get another chance to play for another while; that said I'm always up for playing an improved version of the game. It sounds like they're about to roll out a major update to the game, which is always a good thing. Perhaps we're closer to release. ;)

On the upside, the official forums are going 'Fist of an angry god' level nerd-rage. Hours upon hours of high quality entertainment right'chur! *Grabs popcorn*
