Accidental SWTOR Testing Survey Email Sent to Community

As originally reported and discussed on the official SWTOR forums, a significant amount of registered Star Wars: The Old Republic community members received an email at approximately 6PM PT today inviting to them to give game testing feedback via an online survey. BioWare quickly stated the email was sent in error as players furiously logged into swtor.com/tester to check to see if they really were in game testing:

Hello everyone. We're aware of the e-mails that are being reported and will have more information for you as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!

Allison Berryman
Earlier today, two e-mails were sent to members of the Star Wars: The Old Republic community. These e-mails were sent to a larger group than intended, and have caused some confusion in the community. We can confirm that these e-mails were from EA and BioWare and apologize for any confusion they have caused. Please note that receiving these e-mails does not affect your chances to be invited to test the game. Thank you all for your understanding!

First Bioware punk everyone in the red zone by saying the game is coming out in 2011 but only for a select group in the green zone. Now they send out these emails which appear to be only punking people in the green zone. I love their sense of humour. Makes me not feel so bad to be in the red zone as I am not aware of anyone in the red zone that got one of these emails.

    Well there goes my theory.....

So I saw the emails and did an immediate search of my email archive to see if I had overlooked an invite from Bioware. There was none. Further investigation made me aware of the swtor.com/tester/ page, on which I found a little entry reading "Squadron 1020" and below that "expired." Did I miss a test session?! I know they didn't email me!

Unfortunately I believe you did. Squadron 1020 was the name given to the weekend beta test group (the first and so far only weekend).

However, the main reason they have said they will re-invite us all is because many people did not get their emails. I didn't get mine until the Thursday though they were supposed to go out on Tuesday. Anyway, reformat your spam filter to make sure you get all email with suspected spam just labelled as such and you won't miss anything.

The funny thing is that I was in the weekend beta test but the links in the survey email don't go anywhere and I have already filled out half a dozen surveys.

Alas, to glimpse heaven for a second only to have it taken from you. this was the tragedy i realized a moment later when I found out it was a mistake email...

Well accidents do happen so no big loss, as a great man once said, "Our time will come"

and a million voices cried out in pain

...and were suddenly silenced, as they checked swtor facebook wall

I just laughed after finding out it was a mistake. I mean really is BW drinking on the job? Or was it a bet between a few people daring one another to do it? How does a company screw up like this being a high stakes game?

Hell if they wanted to send something by screw up send the wall of crazy an all thats on it

This is a good test for our spam filters. It seems some people did not see the email. If it did go to everyone signed up for beta then I would wonder if some may have the sender blocked by their IP. Some people may have to check their blocked sender list.

    Not everybody got it.

My first thought was that if this was a scam/phishing email this is a very good one. Then I checked to see if I missed and invite email, then contacted the Support bots... just after that the twitter announcement came out. I have refused to check the forums about it, the drama would overload my nice filter.

LoL I did the same thing after my false moment of excitement that I was really in subsided.

I bet this was their Fiday Update
