NYCC 2011: Main Panel Live Blog

It is the first official day of New York Comic Con and there is plenty going on in regards to Star Wars: The Old Republic on the show floor. In our first piece of content from today, we cover the SWTOR Main Panel with a live blog directly from the event. Senior Online Community Manager Stephen Reid noted yesterday in a Newsarama interview that while there may not be any major reveals at the panel, there would be new 'visuals.' Whatever the 'visuals' and more happen to be, you can be sure we will note it in the live blog as it happens and the transcript (of the major points) some time after the conclusion of the panel.

Notes from the live blog are contained after the jump

UPDATE: In an effort to get video up as soon as possible for our readers and the SWTOR community in general, we pulled together some quick highlights from the main panel. The highlights video is available after the jump.

Well everyone doesn't get to play those 15 FP's as some are faction specific, and if you're expecting all of them too be like Taral V, you're going to be in for a surprise.

I hope there is a way to disable darkside corruption. I want my BH to look exactly as I made him in the CC, and have no intention of looking like I have leprosy, just because I decided to kill people.

3:15: James Ohlen: Visual change of morality paths is in. Staying away from morality locking abilities, maybe later. Don't want to gimp you.

But there is specific lightside/darkside only gear.
    But then maybe that changed.

"2:59: James Ohlen: PVP Warzones at launch - 3. Information on Voidstar, Satele Shan introducing it, video."

Was there an actual video shown of the Voidstar or was the above live blog in reference to the Friday update video? If so when can we expect for it to be uploaded. Thank you.

There were a couple pieces of video of the Void Star, yes. Video uploads are in the works, keep an eye out for them soonish.

EDIT: And there it is. The Voidstar video footage, enjoy!

The video that was referenced is up on the SWTOR site. Guess that is the Friday update.

First, agreed 100%, a solid live-blog. Lots of info.

I'm not worried about the # of flashpoints, based on pre-orders, they're going to be profitable right of fthe bat, meaning they'll also be able to have a sizeable staff right off the bat, meaning they 'should' be able to churn out new content at a faster pace than we've previously seen in MMO's to date...in theory at least.

Sad about mini-games. Would ahve liked to see pazzak or chess.

I'm really hoping for a smart-phone app. If you could manage inventory/companion missions/crafting from it, that would be amazing, and free up my play time for pure character advancement.

Does this mean the "evil" model changes for going Dark Side? And they've ditched the (terrible) idea of trying to have DS/LS specific abilities?

They were talking about character model appearances showing visible signs of "corruption" when going hardcore dark side. This was something they've talked about in the past, then said "probably not in for launch," and now today they've confirmed that it is in for launch.

Jonneh, I wouldn't call the idea of trying to have DS/LS specific abilities "terrible", though for it to satisfy kotor players and mmoers it would unfortunatly have to be mirrored abilities with different animations and names.

    SWTOR Character Names:

Wound in the Force:: Avinoam (Lvl 50 DS Assassin), Gurion (Lvl 20 LS Sith Juggernaught), Adomin (LVL 33 DS Sentinel),Achinoam (Lvl 10 Grey Consular), Tzahala (LVL 14 DS Trooper),Juliraus (LVL 9 Grey/Dark BH)

The reason they are terrible as it would cause you to be cornered into an alignment by them. Keep in mind that they want you to group and are designing a lot around it and so the community and how they treat people are important in design choices.
