Friday Update: Fan Friday, Eurogamer Expo Video, and CE Unboxing

Today brings us a three part Friday update for Star Wars: the Old Republic. The first part is a Fan Friday, complete with some great fan-created-art, concept art detailing capital ships and environments, and new wallpapers from the "Return" cinematic, as well as brand new weapon-themed forum icons.

The second part is a video of highlights from Eurogamer Expo, featuring some Darth Hater staff as well as documentation of the announcement of the release date and of course a number of fan reactions to playing the game.

The third section of today's update is an unboxing of the Collector's Edition, which goes through the box and shows all of the items that will be in it, as well as some animations of the in-game items and footage of the elusive Collector's Edition store. No footage of what's actually for sale yet, sadly.

Join us after the jump to see what else is in store!

UPDATE: Video embeds available after the jump.
UPDATE 2: DevTracker posts added to page 2.

I wouldn't worry to much. Most likely your game code that will be in the box will register as CE. If it doesn't (or you don't get the items when pluging it in) customer support will be able to help you. From what I've read the people that have brought this up to customer support about pre order codes have been told not to worry about it. The pre-order code is only being used to get you into head start. They may have changed thier stance but thats the one I always have heard.

Pre-Order Code has the same status regardless of the Edition. The Pre-Order Code from the Standard Edition is no different from the Pre-Order Code for the Digital Edition which is no different from the Pre-Order Code for the Collector's Edition.

Which you receive your Collector's Edition from your Local Retailer, it will come with a Separate Code. This Code is what will have the In-Game Collector's Edition Items on them. This Code is completely separate from the Pre-Order Code.

This is what I thought originally, however, the quote says preorder OR game code. So to me it sounds like the preorder code entered for early access may actually make a difference.

Ah, that could mean the pre-order code for the pre-order item(s) while the Game Code is for the Edition you got.

Though I do agree, it is awkwardly worded

I bought my CE from Amazon, got my pre-order code for CE. I don't even know who you would talk to about this issue.

Hope it works out for you.

Not really related but... I got mine from amazon too. Do you think they will ship the game early so we get it in mail on release day or we just get a code and download it online until we get the game in mail or.. how do you think that will work?
  • #38 notro
We will be able to play without the physical box in hand. We'll just download the client and be good to go. It is already attached to your SWTOR account that you pre-ordered whatever edition.

Bought my CE from my local Gamestop, and I also got my pre-order code for a CE. Pre-ordered it on the first day it was announced and actually had an issue with the code... receipt didn't print the code but luckily I noticed it before I drove off. Went back into the store and they were able to get me the code. Glad I checked!

Just simple curiosity, but will we be given a Dissection Gallery for any and/or all of the videos?

Speaking of Dissections, does anyone else think it would be kind of cool to see a massive Dissection Update that goes back all the way to the beginning and dissecting the earlier Videos, Screenshots, and Concept Arts.
  • #47 emlaeh
Pretty sure all the dissections are found by hitting the "dissection" tag in the tag cloud... or via search above.

I wonder how the 'cosmetic' items will work. There isn't an appearance tab like in other games. Also, from what I understand, the mod system isn't all that right now.

  • #26 Jaramukhti
The mod system is still very much in-progress. There's no telling how it will be once it is in its final stage.

That said, from what the devs have been saying, if anything is sure to be moddable it will be the cosmetic pieces. Daniel E was very emphatic about being able to keep your Sand People & Slave Leia stuff for a long time - those are both purely cosmetic looks.

Disappointed they didn't show the the color stone effect with an in game screenshot of it for sabres and blasters. Also, it looks like the security token's (authenticator) appearance has changed from the prior model.

Hey what happened to the Holo-Cam they promised when I ordered my CE? Don't tell me they removed that now?
  • #15 chronium
They didn't they just didn't want to double dip. They show everything but the holocam and what the yellow stone looks like in the video.
