Daniel Erickson Reveals Voice Actors for Sith Inquisitor

Star Wars: The Old Republic fan site The Sith Inquirer had the chance to interview BioWare's Lead Writer Daniel Erickson on the Sith Inquisitor. In the interview, Daniel discusses his inspirations in writing the Inquisitor's story, companions, and more.

However, the most important point came when discussing the voice actors that will play the respective genders of the Sith Inquisitor.

Our Sith Inquisitor male is played by Euan Morton and our Sith Inquisitor female is played by Xanthe Elbrick. Both brought interesting takes on the role that were unexpected. Xanthe, particularly, brought a subtle understanding of the character and an ability to convey a huge amount of meaning while saying something completely different.

Well, aside from answering people like us, what specific work would she have left? By the time she has finished she can get back to creating the storypath for the first expansion. I think it is a pretty neat management of her time. And of BioWare as well. No pay = no expense for the time being.

I think it's sort of awesome that she got the job, wrote the entire class story, and ran off to grad school before release.

Hmm... the replybutton sent me to the top, but this was intended as a reply to keroko.

Ah yes, those two snippets. Can't believe I forgot about them. I'm actually very pleased with Euan's work. Arrogant, nasal and rusty like he has inhaled too much smoke from roasted Gungan. Makes me almost cry for the poor voice of the IA.

    Sample of Euan's work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zTRZZefmvM

I'm happy with both of them. Both have that British accented arrogance coupled with that casual disregard for life so typical in Sith worked into their lines. Euan's "Goodbye, Silvar" particularly had me grinning like a madman.

The VO for the SI is top notch. #formerbetatester

    Male and female both?

I sure hope he doesn't mean female. #cantsaymore

Wait, did I miss something? They went back on their holding of Purebloods being SI? SI pureblood is in? Man am I out of the loop or what?

Yeah, Erickson lost the argument. Sucks, IMO, though [redacted].

I've never heard of either of those two names. They don't have to get big names for every role, but it does make me wonder what else they've done. To IMDB!

    *edit*
Neither is that famous. Xanthe has had 5 roles, Euan has had 9. Very obscure actors for the Inquisitor. I can guess the Inquisitor is British-sounding since Xanthe is from London and Euan is from Scotland.

It seems that like the films, every Imperial class is going to be portrayed by a British actor, with the exception of the Bounty Hunter. Both male and female Agent and Inquisitor voices are provided by British actors, as is the male Sith Warrior - not sure about the female yet but chances are she will be British too.

Xanthe can be heard at 17:30 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99NeXW0OGnQ

They have had five/nine roles that have been listed on on IMDB, don't assume that IMDB lists every role they've done, people can add them as freely as wikipedia and roles performed on stage are often not documented as less people know them. I can tell you for a fact, that Xanthe does allot of acting in the West End and Broadway, as I have seen her. Neither are prolific voice actors, but their talent shouldn't be in doubt because of that.

Xanthe does sound properly aristocratic, without being completely "fnar fnar". But without hearing actual lines it is hard to determine, and we can't really take DE's comment to be unbiased. ;)
But on the sound of her natural voice I'm not put off. And she is clearly professional.

Euan on the other hand... one voice role and that's it. Otherwise he is a stage actor. I'm afraid of that tbh. Stage acting is less about looking right or sounding right, but acting right and having the right presence. Think Patrick Steward here. That means that he can either be absolutely great because he can conform his voice to his 'high' acting from the stage, or he will fall through because he is a more physical and emotional actor. And he is after all pretty small time.

Phiew... I don't know. Xanthe seems alright so far, Euan is a great mystery. But given the amount of lines, I find it hard to believe they would let a mediocre actor in... Or so I hope.

Throwing out a question for those that read the full interview. Did Daniel Erickson just hint that Khem Val is romance-able?
  • #3 Tarentaal
I think you're reading a bit much into it, he mentions Khem Val and romances but not necessarily the two together but the wording doesn't exclude the possibility either :) My personal stance on the whole romance thing is it's unnecessary and a bit silly but maybe that's because I'm not young and I'm married.
  • #2 Muskaan
No he did not. He said that the "unknown" romance-able companions are also interesting like Khem Val.
