SWTOR Early Access Starts December 13

BioWare's Courtney Woods has just announced on the official forums that the game is now available for pre-load to anyone who has redeemed their pre-order code. Check out the Dev Tracker quote below, or visit the official site for the full announcement. Stephen Reid also clarified the announcement on Twitter, and notified the community that the Early Access section of the Preorder FAQ had changed.

In addition to moving the start of Early Access up to December 13th, the FAQ notes that there will be no "grace period" for preorder purchases; when Early Access ends (just before launch at 12:01 AM EST on 12/20), the servers will go down for a short time, and when they come back up all players will be required to enter a Product Registration Code in order to continue playing. Check out the FAQ for more details, and look for quotes from Stephen Reid after the jump.

UPDATE: You can now preload the game if you pre-ordered by visiting the SWTOR official website and following the instructions listed in this post.

Early Game Access* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is only a few days away! Starting December 13, 2011, The Old Republic will begin emailing invitations to start your Early Game Access. Invitations will be sent throughout the Early Game Access period offering rolling access to the game in the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code, so be sure to check your email inbox!

To ensure that players can get into the game as quickly as possible when their Early Game Access begins, we are now allowing everyone who has redeemed a Pre-Order Code at our Code Redemption Center to pre-load the game to their computer.

In order to download the game client before Early Game Access begins, you need have already logged into your account and redeemed your Pre-Order Code. Once you have done this, you can download the game client by clicking on “My Account” in the upper-right of the window and then click “Pre-Order.” On your Pre-Order page, click the large button that says “Download Game Client” to begin download of the game!

Stephen Reid also clarified the announcement on Twitter:

No, December 13th is not a typo.

Early Game Access *starts* on December 13th. Emails will be sent on the day you get access.

Yes, this is different from previously advertised. I'll post in Forums later with more details.

He also notified the community about the changes to the Preorder FAQ:

Remember when I said there would be an FAQ that I wanted you to read? Here it is - please read it: bit.ly/o1lhnl

Seems they are going back on what has been said or advertised lately! First its everyone who was in thanksgiving weekend will beta test again, that didn't happen, then we get an email screw up about deleting your client, now we can play up to 7 days early but it all depends on when your pre order was redeemed. I think you should let everyone who pre ordered play 7 days early. That was the whole lure of pre ordering. Hopefully everyone will get to play atleast 2 days before launch, so there is minimum crabing ha, ha, ha! its already started! SWTOR needs to be careful, the game might be amazing, but if your crew keeps messing things up eventually people will get sick of it and leave.

Actually, non of what you say is true.

No-one ever said that people in the Thanksgiving beta test would be invited again; they even said that they expected it to be their last beta weekend. They did do another one of course, but nothing was promised to anyone.

The email that people got about deleting the client was not a screw up at all; it clearly states that for more information, you can read the FAQ, where it's clearly stated that you only had to reinstall if you tested prior to Thankgiving weekend and don't have that client. It's not Bioware's fault if people don't read the FAQ and jump to conclusions. Why would you even uninstall without reading the FAQ, from an generic email, when they already said that the beta client would patch to retail?

Last; it was always first come first serve, with early access and code redemption, they didn't advertise with anything else. The only thing that changed was staggered early access from 5 days to 7 days. And I seriously can't understand why anyone would complain about that.

I wish i had the email where it stated that because i was in the thanksgiving weekend beta that i would be testing again. Also Mr. Reid posted about how the oringinal intention of having everyone test again wasn't going to happen and they were going with a smaller test group. And maybe you didn't get the email from SWTOR saying that you had to uninstall the client, they even said they screwed up. Thanks for all your info :)

Maybe BW is trolling you. As it seems you're the only one that recieved this email.

Not giving people prior notice as to which day they'll get access on is insanely stupid imho

I have a question for those of us who ordered the deleuxe collectors edition version threw origin.  It cleary stats that if i dont have a game access code i wont be able to continue to play after 12/20.  If origin dosent ship that till the 20th i wont have it for a good 5-7 bussiness days will they email me my regular code ? just curious and trying to cover all bases ??

    From SR's twitter:

Digital orders for <s class="hash">#</s>SWTOR fromhttp://Origin.com will be emailed Game Codes starting December 16, 2011.

<s>@</s>HunterMG96 I'm looking into when Origin will ship CE boxes, but I don't believe they're planning to email codes.

Unless they email us a code, then it looks like you'll have to wait since there's no grace period.

Actually seen people complain over this, dont get. Ungrateful bastards :P

  • #62 Jaramukhti

The only people I can see with a legitimate beef are those who have days off already scheduled that can't get their vacation time changed on such short notice. Otherwise, yes, how horrible. Two extra days of early access... Those bastards.:P

  • #49 travballard

So how early do or did you have to enter pre order code to get in on 13th?  In other words how many people do ya'll think they are going to let in on day one.

  • #52 KostonEld

I ordered and turned in my code on the first day, July 21? I think at 1am pst. It had JUST been announced on the main tor site. I better get in day 1!

  • #48 Spark026

I'm predicting a LOT of sad faces when everyone hits refresh all day long on the 13th, 14th, 15th and so on. By the time the 19th rolls around and some people are still waiting, mental hospitals across the country will be full with no place to put the overflow :D

Although I understand the whole point to same day email is so the servers won't get hammered. Rabid fans will still use their vaca im sure...then they can /facepalm all day long. :'(

Expecting the forums to be a madhouse for days....

  • #45 KostonEld

I ordered my digital deluxe edition from origin, should I already have my game registration code in the email they sent me when I ordered it? Or will they send another email when game launches with my code to redeem it to continue playing post 20th?

  • #46 chronium
You'll get it on the 20th
