Patch Notes 12/16/2011 - 12/22/2011

As many of you might have noticed, the Star Wars: The Old Republic servers went down last night for maintenance and came up this morning along with a small patch. The patch might have not fixed much but at the very least, it did fix a few things. Since the last few patches were small and were not big enough to post, we’re combining the them here as a small update.

Patch Notes 12/22/2011

General

  • Fixed an issue that caused some pre-assigned guild names to display incorrectly.
  • Players who are disconnected while in the queue to join a server now retain their position upon logging back in within a reasonable amount of time.

Missions and NPCs

  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to open and complete pending missions as intended

Patch Notes 12/20/2011

General

  • Corrected an issue that could cause degraded performance or client crashes for some players on Taris.
  • Fixed a bug that could prevent players from accepting pending mission rewards

Patch Notes 12/19/2011

General

  • Implemented player account changes to prepare for launch.
  • Made several improvements to increase overall hardware stability.

Patch Notes 12/17/2011

General

  • Fixed an issue that could cause the game client to crash under some circumstances.

Patch Notes 12/16/2011

General

  • Corrected a server-side issue that caused some game systems (such as Companion Missions) to behave incorrectly.

on the subject of patching, i seem to remember something that was said a long time ago concerning a reason BW chose the Hero Engine was that they could iterate/patch w/o a need for taking down the servers.  so why are they always taking down the servers?

Actually, the vast majority of the patches listed here were done while the servers were up. You just didn't notice. :)

The only maintenance this week was for the end of Early Access/beginning of Launch and end of Grace Period. Both had to be taken down to make sure only people with appropriate access could play.

They still need to take the servers down for a little while at least once a week to do routine maintenance and clear the programming and such like that. They can't just keep running the game 24/7/365 or the glitches and data corruption that comes from running a program non-stop for that long would just start piling up. Once a week for a few hours is virtually a necessity to keep the glitches and errors they have to fix in maintenance simple and easy to fix.

This is not the case with modern programing methods. Warcraft is still doing this because the listed issues but more modern MMOs can run for weeks at a time with little to no interruption such as Rift.

I wonder if this includes those who dc for random reasons (I.E. Crap internet, client crashes and what not). I'd assume so.. Not willing to test it though.

I was curious what was going on with the 2 mb downloads.
