In an interview with Eurogamer, James Ohlen addressed concerns over performance issues players have had since the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic.
James OhlenHowever, we know that it's important that there is a smaller group of people usually with lower end machines that are having problems in some areas. And one of the most important things for us to grow our service is to continue to bring in more players, including those players who only have low-end machines.
So we have a client team, a team of programmers, whose entire job is to optimise the code, find out where some of the issues are, and then fix that up.
While there may not be a direct mention of performance issues on high-end machines, it should at least ease tensions as BioWare optimizes the code. To read the interview in full, visit Eurogamer.

Posted 1/11/2012 9:17:45 AMThe flickering tree and green walls are graphical glitches and got nothing to do with performance.
As for the game performance the biggest problem looks to be related to shadows. I tried turning that off and in other games that only does few frames extra but in swtor it made a huge difference.

Posted 1/11/2012 8:01:01 AMI don't have a high-end machine, but even with my modest graphics card and processor I've been able to run the game on high settings and I've had very few bugs to contend with. Still, I'm glad to know BioWare is continuing to optimize the game client - my brother can't run the game right now because his graphics card currently cannot handle it. Hopefully soon he may be able to.

Posted 1/11/2012 7:58:43 AMThose having performance issues, something to check/look into. If your system has the network cord plugged into the motherboard (known as on board NIC), maybe a good idea to get a stand alone NIC and add it to the system. On board NIC's take up CPU time and can cause glitches/lags/etc in games. Sometimes corps use sub-standard or chopped down versions of the true NIC makers chips on the board which would also cause issues. Go out and get a nice name brand NIC for 20-40 bucks and install and turn off the on board. If you have money to burn I say get a NIC like the Killer (Bigfoot Networks) it's expensive but can help mid to high end machines on network traffic. Hey, even my high end machines motherboard has an on board that I turned off even before I installed the OS... (i7-2600K, 16GB, GTX 570, off board NIC, Raid 0 Black Labeled WD Sata-6GB HD's)
But yes, most MMO makers have to go through this same thing with users compiling code to smooth out game play for some. So give them time, it's always the good in low pop areas, then get into more characters on screen kills system... issue. Good to see they are looking into it and letting people know, so they don't look like they "don't care".
But do yourself a favor off board your network card when you can, your ping times and FPS will thank you. I saw a 20-40 ping decrease when I off boarded mine last system build, some people will have more some less, but still helps... :)

Posted 1/10/2012 8:32:43 PMI will admitt i have a 'high end' machine and i get the occasional bug or glitch with graphics, fav is the flickering trees, but nothing game breaking, but i have friends on lower end who have a few issues with things not displaying properly.
Still nice to know there is a whole team dedicated to solving the problem.
