Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller posted an update today about the character ability delay issue that players have experienced since the launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic. In a blog post, Georg thanks the community for their feedback to help track down the cause of the issue, and notes that a fix is scheduled for the public test server in the next update. He also mentions other fixes that should help PvP combat with both player responsiveness and hardware configuration. You can read the full blog post below.
Georg ZoellerHi everyone; I wanted to give you all an update on the ability delay situation.
Thanks to constructive feedback from the community, including some great videos, we were able to identify an issue that could cause abilities on global cooldown to appear available to the player, resulting in unresponsive/ignored player input. A fix for the issue is currently scheduled to go to the public test server with our next update.
Additionally, we have located an issue that would cause player input for certain instant abilities to fail in frantic combat situations, resulting in unpredictable and frustrating gameplay issues for the affected player. A fix for the issue is currently scheduled to go to the public test server with our next update.
Finally, our engineers have identified an issue introducing a significant delay between player input and ability execution in certain game situations, most notably (but not limited to) fast paced PvP. The magnitude of the delay varies with a number of factors, including processor hardware, but can, especially on dual core CPUs, result in a very perceivable reduction in game responsiveness. We are in the later stages of testing a fix for the problem and hope to be able to roll it out to the servers very soon.
We're still investigating a number of additional issues, along with some usability and quality of life improvements for responsiveness regarding player input, but the above mentioned developments should provide a very measurable improvement in combat responsiveness.
Thanks again for your patience and support and we hope to see you on the public test server to help us validate these improvements before pushing them to the live servers.

Posted 1/22/2012 4:56:04 AMUnfortunately, I have already unsubscribed because of mainly this issue, among others. This is the type of thing you fix in Beta. And it has been known issue for months now, possibly almost a year. In the very beginning of Beta Testing, people were posting this information on the boards.

Posted 1/22/2012 10:51:17 AMIt's probably for the best (for you), honestly. If you don't feel like you are getting your money's worth, no reason to stay subbed.
Personally, I haven't found it to be an issue with my play time. I may be lucky.
Hopefully, a fix will come soon and then you can decide whether or not a resub is worth it. Peace.

Posted 1/21/2012 2:24:24 PMIt's funny, why people say BioWare "blames" the players with dual core? They just said they identified the issue to be most common to dual core systems. Which is great, because I am on dual core and I expect to notice a significant improvement after they implement the fixes.

Posted 1/21/2012 3:39:14 PMUsual hyperbole... It's a common thing among MMOrs. "I hurt my toe" = "ZOMG HEAL ME OR YOU PAY MY REPAIR!"
I believe it stems from our politicans in the western world. They too have a tendency to blow things up for dramatic effect, but unlike said politicians, the MMOrs are not experienced enough with hyperbole to actually catch the fact that it isn't exactly what is true.

Posted 1/21/2012 11:28:02 AMAh, I noticed the problem the other day with CD abilities seeming available, and I was wondering why they didn't work. I was wondering if my computer was responsible (only 2gb RAM at the moment).

Posted 1/21/2012 11:26:37 AMIf i had a dollar for every time i tried to use saber ward, force shroud, or vanish and it just didn't activate... I've spammed it for literaly 5 or 6 seconds and it just doesn't turn on. Its the single most infuriating issue in the entire game imo. I've lost entire huttball games because of it.

Posted 1/21/2012 11:22:45 AMNow all i'm waiting for is performance fixes, having around 20fps in normal areas and less then 10 in pvp is not okay when not having a computer that is old as dirt. If they fix that i'll resub.

Posted 1/21/2012 10:28:53 AMI just hope this one's up on PTS for a while to verify it's going to resolve the problems they're addressing, rather than have another 1.1 debacle. I'm talking in general, not so much a "zomg they screwed Ilum again" deal.

Posted 1/21/2012 4:36:52 AMI really hope they fix this. It's a huge problem for Juggernauts in PVP. I can't even count how many times I've lost a fight because I'm pounding crushing blow or ravage over and over just to watch the animation loop and cause no damage what-so-ever.
Combine this with the fact that I can't tell when abilities are off cool-down after the latest patch, I may as well just give up. Feels like I'm playing with one hand tied behind my back.

Posted 1/21/2012 3:51:06 AMAwesome!
Too bad people will just miss this with the Illum issue going on. Personally this is a significantly bigger problem than something that can be avoided. This affects PvP and PvE both, heck it even messed up leveling, and some classes are really messed up because of this.
I can't recount the number of abilities I have tried to fire off only to see that they didn't, or even worse, deleted the previous action. So I'm quite happy about this. And it is worth noting that this is possibly the greatest fault with the game as is, it is the only thing that can really hurt it in the relatively short term (and long term). If this had persisted for another month or so with no clear solution in sight, I can see people giving up on the game. Not all of course, but it could lead to TOR becoming another 300k MMO.

Posted 1/21/2012 2:44:02 AMI've never actually encountered any of these issues with the game, but I do know a lot of people that have. It's great that Bioware is getting around to these fixes promptly.

Posted 1/20/2012 8:00:40 PMFinally, hope it's really gonna fix the problem. Interupting enemy abilities is a pita right now.
