Ilum issues persist after patch 1.1.2. Players are flooding the Official Forums with accounts that kills in Ilum are not registering towards Daily and Weekly Quests. Associate Online Community Manager Joveth Gonzalez acknowledged the issue, saying the following:
Hi everyone,
I wanted to give you all a quick update. The dev team has been investigating the cause of this issue and they're closer to figuring out a solution. As mentioned before, we'll keep you updated with any new developments. Thanks again for your patience on this.
As always, Darth Hater will provide updates on this issue as more information becomes available.
UPDATE - 02/08/2011 4:45pm ET: Joveth Gonzalez has posted on the official forums that the issue will be addressed in a patch tomorrow:
Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know that we will be deploying a patch tomorrow (details coming very soon) with the following resolutions:
Killing players on Ilum will now consistently grant Valor and mission credit as intended.
Once again, thank you for your patience.

Posted 2/9/2012 12:38:44 PMI also personally think a big problem is the Expertise stat on PvP gear, it seems way over powered. I mean that 1 stat increases dmg done, increases healing done, and reduces dmg received. And even on the non-battlemaster set, 1 piece of expertise can add like 4% to those, or more! Even playing in the all lvl 50 Warzones can be horribly uneven, as a group or guild of ppl with a good chunk battlemaster or pvp armor can unfairly out match a team of just fresh lvl 50s.
I kinda get why they did it, gives the two types of end game suits (pvp and ops) valid purposes if one has a stat that's only good in PvP, but still it just seems WAY too over powered imo. Perhaps these "ranked" Warzones coming in patch 1.2 in March that they claim will "bring balance to the pvp" will be just that, breaking down lvl 50 pvp warzones by type of armor ppl have.

Posted 2/9/2012 10:35:21 AMAs said in another forum: "BW were so proud to claim that they got 2 dev teams, the first to fix bugs and the second to develop new contents"... They forgot to hire a third team to debug team#2's work.

Posted 2/8/2012 6:08:45 PMSo, every Tuesday with a new patch they break something somewhere. Then the following Thursday or Saturday (depending on complexity of w/e they broke), they deploy another patch to fix what they broke the previous Tuesday.
As a software engineer, I find this to be a very interesting way of doing things. In my line of work, this kind of bug-fix turn around happens in pre-alpha and/or early alpha and never on live software. This goes to show how far behind in quality the gaming industry is compared to most other software organizations.

Posted 2/9/2012 4:05:40 AMBecause Windows as a operating system does work flawless everytime a new version comes out, right? That's because Toyota didn't recall thousands of cars to repair life threatening issues. I don't know what exactly you are doing but I work in construction and the times the architect sends us new versions of drawings while the project is going on for already more then 2 years is astonishing and we talk about life endangering mistakes.
So no.. it's not only "one" industry which doesn't work perfectly.... it's any industry involving "us".

Posted 2/9/2012 4:41:25 AMIt's one thing to TALK about mistakes and another thing to actually make the mistakes then fixing them when the damage is done, not to mention that most industries compensate for the damage incurred.
No one is asking for perfection.

Posted 2/9/2012 6:14:55 AMCompensation would be nice though as far as I know they update most of the stuff not during prime time and most of the time the server are down not longer than 3 hours, heck today it was only 90 minutes and neither because of bugs nor serverdowns anybody is physically suffering nor in any financial danger.
If nobody is asking for perfection, why game forums are full of qq xy not working perfectly? It's a part of the gaming community. If you are not happy with the service you can end it anytime. (no judging from my side rather = spend your free time with something you enjoy doing)

Posted 2/9/2012 11:09:01 AMNobody makes a perfect product. There's no bugfree software. Every software engineer knows this. However in certain industries, people don't sell software which needs a server shut down and a patch every 2 days. I can't imagine the impact of doing that to my customer. The customer will 1) make me sell the software free & 2) take their business elsewhere. That's the reality.
I wasn't pointing fingers at Bioware. It's the gaming industry as a whole. The competition isnt any better. Blizzard's patches are disasters of equal proportions even after 7 years of trying to get it right.
Since you brought up Toyota (which is a stupid analogy since Toyota's mistake cost lives). Toyota made one mistake (albeit a very, very serious one) after selling millions and millions of cars over decades. And that mistake cost them dearly. Akio Toyoda apologized publicly first on live television and then to Congress and accepted full responsibility for the disaster.
Don't bring up stupid analogy. Accept the fact that PC games as a software product is way behind other standard software products as far as quality is concerned. And the reason is pretty simple -- this is just a game. And nothing about it has an impact on anything. So, the quality can be as bad as the customer can tolerate.

Posted 2/8/2012 1:30:36 PMThe problem with the whle kill trading in Ilum isn't that it's there. It's the fact that it's becoming to be required in order to be competative. So many people have been doing the kill trading (yesI know some peopel have legitimately become battlemasters) that the battlemasters are almost equal to the number of normal players. this is making it where in order to have a chance at PVP you have to be a battlemaster as well. It reminds me of the crying the people were doing which caused the separation of 50's from the "all levels" bracket (I was personally against separating).
I personally agree that the WZ counting thing is a pain. It's retarded when you have to win 5 - 10 games in order to have 3 count for the daily. I hope they fix this soon.

Posted 2/8/2012 5:53:50 PMThe more people that bend the rules to get the better gear will force more players to bend the rules so they can get better gear...so on and so on.
I know gear is important, but if crafters could craft equally awesome gear, and cybercraft and artificers could craft equally awesome mods, people would have another outlet to get the items.
Then again, kill trading is super easy, much easier than buying stuff off the auction house or GASP gathering the materials to craft something.

Posted 2/8/2012 11:47:00 AMWell the problem was even normal kills weren't counting. I didn't play Ilum yesterday but my friend did and he said not only were people not trade killing but that normal pvp (aka like one on one) wasn't working and that you got credit for nothing, no count on daily/weekly and no valor. So yes it was completely broken.
Too someone else's comment, if you "untie" kills from the dailies/weeklies there will still be kill swapping as most ppl were doing it to get higher valor lvl quicker to get to Battlemaster gear, you could finish your quest in 20mins, but most would do it for hours for valor levels.
How to combat this, I don't know, I just know that Ilum is pretty busted and NOT very fun. If anything to start they could just add some new warzone maps, even just some new huttball maps to make it interesting at least. In warzones for the most part you don't have this problem because there are rules and time limits built around it, I think part of Ilum's problems is it's "open" world area. I'm sure other games can pull this off, not that I've had experience with them, so it can be fixed.
My biggest problem is how slow they are going with these end game fixes. Right now they are telling us nothing really, but they basically keep saying "end game pvp will be fixed in March's 1.2 update". Well that's still over a MONTH away, and it's been at least 2 months since it's been like this. I get that this stuff takes time, but the fact is it's really easy to lvl to 50, and the average person from launch already has at least 1, if not more max lvl characters and they have nothing to do but grind the EXACT same quests EVERY day! Considering most say that in MMO's "max lvl is when the REAL game begins" I don't think that is holding true here, most are just sitting around boringly grinding out the same thing they did yesterday, and they will only do that for so long before ppl start leaving. It's a pretty serious issue they need to fix, all of their team should be focused on this right now, and if that's not enough then hire more.

Posted 2/8/2012 5:51:36 PMOr just remove valor gain from PvP on Illum. Give rewards that reward factions, not individual players and it will deter people bending the rules for their own advantage.
Like a faction-side buff for the side that controls more of Illum. Not a buff that goes away after an hour, a buff that goes away 5 minutes after the team loses control of Illum, but otherwise stays on forever. I can't figure out a way to break that system.

Posted 2/8/2012 8:32:12 AMI love how some players will power threw to end-game to exploit the "early" stages of the game before they get "nerfed" and once they do they get all pissed about it. WoW today looks nothing like WoW when it launched and the same "should" be expected of ToR. Yet I understand that people don't like change but this is an MMO and change is constent. If this is to much for you I hear Mario/Sonic London Games is coming out soon, go play that!
