Next Drew Karpyshyn SWTOR Novel Revealed

Despite Drew Karpyshyn recently announcing his departure from BioWare, the author of Revan continues to work on a new novel set during the era of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Up until now, not much had been known about the book. Thanks to a post on the DelRay Facebook page, some interesting tidbits have been revealed. The title of the book is Annihilation. It will feature several well-known SWTOR characters and delve deeper into the war between the Republic and the Sith Empire.

First, DARTH BANE and REVAN author Drew Karpyshyn is cranking away on his next novel, STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: ANNIHILATION. Republic agent Theron Shan and his Twi’lek compadre, Teff’ith (from Dark Horse Comics’ STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC: THE LOST SUNS) must contend with a Sith Empire counter-attack against the Republic, spearheaded by the lethal apprentice of Darth Malgus. Satele Shan and Jace Malcolm co-star in what will be a fast-paced and tension-fraught tale based on the award-winning video game from BioWare and LucasArts.

Star Wars: The Old Republic: Annihilation hits store shelves on November 13. Look for coverage of the book here as we get closer to its release.

Really? Because there was a lot or Revan kiss-assing in the book (granted, it's named after him). Came off as borderline fanfic material to me.

It really is worth a read, many things in the game will make much more sense to you if you read up on the novel, and the endgame content will certainly be a much more enjoyable experience if you do read it.

Drew doesn't always write novels with a happy ending, he doesn't create a Universe where the Sith are "evil" in that they steal purses from old women, and the Jedi are some sort of Gods walking amongst mere mortals.

He tries to portray the Sith as some sort of morally grey species; he puts focus on the social darwinism of their philosophy, of their adherence to the Survival of the Fittest, of their constant lust for power, which inevitably drives them off a cliff.

I recommend you read the Darth Bane-trilogy and the Darth Revan-novel; darkness, corruption, greyness and adult writing. I don't know who said it, but it's as true as always; the only thing people love more than the rise of a hero, is seeing that hero fall from grace and descend into darkness. Although Revan is less doom and gloom compared to Bane, it still is worth a read. I both read the novel and listenend to a soundbook, I found the last 1/4th of the novel to be very good when listening to it.

What makes Star Wars great is the fact that it's a constant battle between the Light and Dark, where no side can ever win, what makes a really good protagonist/antagonist is one who you can sympathize with; Anakin Skywalker is a perfect example of a good guy gone bad for reasons other than selfish ones, so is the story of Darth Caedus(Jacen Solo, son of Han and Leia) who falls to the Dark Side as he considers the end to justify the means. Drew knows exactly how to impersonate this feeling in novels and games, I'm quite worried now that he's left the team that other, less mature writers will take over who will shift the Sith towards being dumb and evil, and the Jedi towards being saints.

I hope it goes more into depth on the story surrounding our characters or what our characters are going through/going to go through in the universe as a whole. Sure I paid quite a bit of attention to my Consular's storyline, but I was still lost by the end of it.
