This week’s DevTracker highlights are a mile long so let’s get right to it. Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller talks about Legacy unlock rewards, the illusive white color crystal, social gear fitting into the armor type scheme, the new combat log in patch 1.2, updating current default armor mods, Warzone rewards based on performance, and more. Combat Designer Cameron Winston discusses The Nightmare Pilgrim on Voss, and how Recruit gear will replace Champion gear in patch 1.2. Systems Designer David Hunt illustrates the upcoming changes to armor mods with the addition of transferable set bonuses. There’s much more than I can list in this intro paragraph so hit the jump to see all the highlights.
Georg Zoeller specifies the exact functions of the repair droid on your ship.

NPC Vendor for in a ship is just a repair droid???
In addition to his capable equipment repair functions, the repair astromech is an officially authorized reseller of exclusive new droid parts from the C2 droid corporations. These highly capable parts enable never before seen Crew Skill performance on any of the corporation’s ship maintenance droids!
But wait, there is more.He will also accept any kind of item for recycling!
Georg Zoeller notes that players will not be able to change the species of existing characters to benefit from Legacy species unlocks.

Dear George. If you’re going to answer a question from the Q/A please answer the entirety of it. Especially this one which is weighing heavy on ANY PLAYERS MIND that has leveled alts while waiting for 1.2 (instead of quitting the game.)
Ziko: Already having 8 characters on my server…will I be forced to delete characters in order to take advantage of the Legacy system or will I be able to change race & new Legacy customization features on pre-existing characters and will there be more character slots added?
Georg Zoeller (Principal Lead Combat Designer): We have heard at the Guild Summit that there’s interest in being able to acquire additional character slots on the servers. We are in the process of determining the requirements for such a step and will update the community when such a feature has moved past the planning state.
Please answer the first part of the question that is entirely more important than adding additional slots which you don’t even know if you’re going to do or not.
There are plenty of us that do not want to have to delete our characters that we got to 50 because your character options/customization was so limited to begin with. (If you say it’s not limited, I’d suggest going back to how many threads were on the beta forums about Character creation.)
Sure, we’ve already answered this one at the Guild Summit: At present time, we will not be offering the ability to change the race of your existing character. As for applying unlocked legacy customization features for character creation to existing characters, please see Damion’s answer regarding the ‘Barbershop’ feature.
Georg Zoeller specifies the status of the white color crystal in patch 1.2 and beyond.

I keep seeing flying rumors by people who either know the correct answer (but never quote source) or just think they know the answer. However I’ve been unable to actually find any solid official response:
Are the white crystals going to be ‘gone’, as in no longer attainable, once 1.2 goes live?
IE: If you don’t buy one now, you will never get one ever again? Thanks for any REAL responses with quoted sources!
Never is such a harsh word.
There will be no way to obtain white color crystals in Game Update 1.2 or any of the 1.2 series of patches. As for further into the future, it is fair to say that we have not yet made up our minds. However, should a white color crystal be made available at a later time, you can be certain that the mode of acquiring it will be significantly more involved than going to a vendor. That’s a one-time opportunity during patch 1.1.5 that will likely not return for a long, long time.
Georg Zoeller encourages players to try out the new changes on the PTS.
Quote from NiilTracer will have a 1.5 second cast time with a 16 second heat cost, when talented, just like it does now. Except it will do 10% less damage. Heatseeker does 10% more. Barrage proc rate was “increased significantly”. Unload is better damage anyways. We’ve gotta be missing something because they didn’t change any of the proc or stacking stuff which is all based off tracer, or they didn’t mention it in the notes.
Let me also say that there’s significant under the hood changes to stats, diminishing returns, itemization stat budget, a new tier of gear with different stats and more diverse mods, changes to PvE and PvP math, etc.
That means that it is not possible to assess impact of class changes in regards to power gain or loss from the patch notes alone, people will have to go on PTS and actually play to get the full picture.Which we highly encourage you to do
Georg Zoeller details where UI save files are located.
On Windows 7, it’d be hereC:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\SWTOR\publictest\s ettings\GUIProfiles
Georg Zoeller gives an update on how social gear will fit into the tiers of the armor-type hierarchy.
Cameron Winston clarifies that the item required to defeat the new Heroic World Boss on Voss is solely for that boss, and no other boss in Operations content.
Quote from Cameron Winston
Hey guys – saw this and wanted to clarify. The patch note isn’t QUITE precise – sorry for the confusion. Part of the patch note process for PTS is to ensure we’re not confusing anyone, so we’ll amend.
The item is required to do the new Heroic World Boss “The Nightmare Pilgrim” on Voss. It is NOT required for any of the 1.2 Operation content, nor is he the last boss of that content. The Operation is entirely separate and does not require any of the items listed to complete on any difficulty level.
To be clear: we do not expect players to run daily quests in order to participate in Operations.-Cameron
Georg Zoeller solicits feedback for more information on what the combat log can provide.
Make sure to let us know what kind of improvements or changes you would like to see from the data stream.— Georg
Georg Zoeller points out the amount of credits dropped in Operations has increased significantly.
Quote from TreF
Actually, you kind of do expect players to run daily quests in order to participate in Operations because we get less than 1k credits in a full clear, and have repair bills that sometimes go upwards of 200k. I literally have to grind dailies just to have enough to repair each week, not to mention getting stims and medpacks. You are giving people the choice of grinding dailies or buying credits online. I personally do not buy credits, but it sure is tempting. My time is valuable and taking 2 hours a day for dailies is worth a lot.
