UPDATE: BioWare is offering a free day of game time to all players in recompense for the unanticipated server issues:
Due to the unexpected extended maintenance today, we are going to be offering every player a full day of game time as compensation. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Thank you for your patience.
Following yesterday's deployment of the 1.2 Game Update, live servers were scheduled for an additional small patch this morning (1.2.0a) to apply minor bug fixes. At approximately 8:30am EST live servers were again brought down, this time unexpectedly, and will apparently remain down until at least 7:00pm EST while BioWare works to address a number of unintended changes:
UPDATE: 10:53AM CDT
During last night's maintenance, some areas of the game were reverted to pre-Game Update 1.2 status. Some areas were 'missing' and characters that were in those areas would be unavailable. We took the live servers offline at approx 9:30AM CDT (Austin time).
Our server and deployment teams are now working to rebuild assets for the live servers, but this is unfortunately not a quick process. We currently estimate that our downtime could be up to eight hours, but that time may be extended.
We are expecting the servers to be available again at 6:00PM CDT (April 14th, 12:00AM BST, 1:00AM CEST, 9:00AM AEST). We'll update you with information in this thread when we have it.
We sincerely apologize for the unexpected downtime today. We’ll update you with more details later.
Thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue.
The official thread with updates as they're announced can be found on the forums.

Pretty much sums up this disaster. I'm a big fan of the game, but they (Bioware) needs to do some damage control after this fiasco and the 1.2 patch.

Bad news guys, that is our fault, because we did not tested it well at the PTS... isnt that right RogueJedi?

Posted 4/13/2012 12:21:04 PMThe problem is due to difficulty in the application of the update to the live servers. It's not something that could be tested without putting the update on the live servers; there was really no way this could be tested on the PTS.

Posted 4/13/2012 12:39:39 PMAlthough they probably could have rolled it out to just one server and verified it before rolling it out to all servers. Just a thought. :P

And that "just one server" is supposed to be the PTS, IF it is not, well...
"Software development, you are doing it wrong Bioware."

Posted 4/13/2012 1:02:52 PMIn all honesty they probably did. The game was running fine for the vast majority of players. It was only we'd been playing the game for a while that we started noting the discrepencies.

Posted 4/13/2012 1:07:46 PMTo back you up, Agent, maybe on PTS(or their internal servers) they didn't have thousands of players all over the game's galaxy to notice a few areas got reverted to pre-1.2, locking players out. It's a problem of too few people playing PTS, which isn't BW's fault. They tried enticing people with 2 exclusive titles, but people aren't biting yet. Too few people testing patches is a problem in every MMO.

Yes it is, if you cant test your software it is not Barack Obama's fault, it is not costumer's fault, it is YOUR fault Mrs SOFTWARE DEVELOPER. They do not have char tranfers to PTS, but as always, IT-IS-NOT-THEIR-FING-FAULT, I told ya guys, it is our fault!!! RUN TO THE HILLS!!!! /o\
BTW, from massively.com: "I betcha Bioware believes in Friday the 13th now"
ROFLMAO.

Posted 4/13/2012 1:16:02 PMYou make a good point. Unfortunately, other actions they's made actually serve to turn people away from the thought of spending time on the PTS. I know I won't ever again.

Posted 4/13/2012 2:08:01 PMNo code larger than 48kB is bug free.
I got 25 years experience in programming. I am sorry for Bioware for being a target of rediculous trolling.
Remember ships to WoW's Anqiraj getting stuck in terrain locking players and making their first major patch unplayable? River of Souls catastophe in Rift?
Big deal. One Friday we cannot play. So what. If you cannot live without a game for a day you have a serious problem and you should look for a medical attention.

Posted 4/13/2012 2:42:41 PMHello Mrs Biodrone, just to make clear because looks like you are back from nowhere, my point is simple: The sh!t any company makes with her own code is not customer's fault, it is her own.
Do you wana a code "larger than 48kB bug free"?
- google.com, you search, and guess what, that sh!t searches... niiiice.
PS: In the software dev world it is 2012, it is not 1987, go update your references. Assembly programmers, lol.

Posted 4/13/2012 12:47:40 PMWas my name invoked? I'm honored.
I thought it was a bug with the maintenance, not the patch itself. I myself an amused, wondering how specific areas of the game were reverted to pre-1.2 through unrelated patching. Game code is fun sometimes.

Posted 4/13/2012 12:02:42 PMI know there is going to be a great multitude gnashing their teeth over this announcement - but a great mass cry is preferable to updates that nobody cares about.
I want the game to continue to play smoothly. Take whatever time is necessary. I'll just pretend they are deducting it from the 30 days of free game time I just got.
