Current Active Subscribers and New Content Announced

Before today's Electronic Arts Q4 2012 Earnings Conference Call, a Financial Results page revealed a few details that may be of interest to fans of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

STAR WARS®: The Old Republic™ active subscribers are 1.3 million. Two new content packs — Legacy and Allies, available in Q1.

While unknown, it will likely receive a fair bit of discussion during today’s 2PM Q4 2012 Earnings Conference Call. When and if there are new details regarding the content packs, we’ll make sure to post it here.

Update: Allison Berryman clarifies the "Allies pack."

Regarding 1.3, there isn't a "guild alliances" feature slated for that update. 1.3 will introduce more new features (like the Group Finder) to the game, though! We encourage you to check out SWTOR.com and our community blog for more news about 1.3 as it becomes available!

Update 2: During the conference call, Electronic Arts did not reveal anything concerning the "packs" themselves. However, a small tidbit was mentioned concerning upcoming content for the game.

Frank Gibeau: We have a very aggressive release plan of content for the rest of the year and beyond. It's mainly focused in on adding a lot of new elder game content around PVP, around achievements, a lot of other features that the fanbase is asking for. There's also support that will be given to guilds, a lot of features and components that they are requesting as well.

They don't really have to worry about new titles for some time. Any new MMORPG title is going to go through the same process SWTOR is now, which in turn will mean that those titles won't pose any true threat until 6 months to a year after thier release.

Char transfers, rated warzones including 8man pre-made + serverwide and nightmare for denova. Bring it and we will have little drop after 6month subscription expire (I will buy another 6 months).

There won't be much of a drop even if all six-month subs are cancelled ...

lol I am not surprised at all. The server I play on is very bad shape for use count (iron citidel) when it used to be extremely popullated. But no, the retards on there go with the "its late" bull shit excuse, lol. I am not surprised though like I said, the game is made by a b team bioware and then they run the game on some trash hero engine. The game is polluted with bugs which baffles me beyond belief when people claim this is the best launch they ever seen for a mmo. I find that to be hilarious. I have played beta's in better condition than this game. Then the extremely stale and countless over used modles for gear and vehicles is just a joke. Oh yeah let me go get a new mount just so it looks like my previous mount with a slightly different color. BIG difference there b team bioware. I will stick with this game though for the time being because it is enjoyable until the point of elder scrolls online comes out. Because long as tod howard and his team works on it (not some trash b team) and use an actual good engine for the game I am positive it will be very enjoyable. If this game has not improved even by then I am definitely done.

So to sum up, you think the game is fun but crappy and on a crappy engine and you will stick it out for another 7 to 19 months while you wait for another game to come out on the same engine. Got it.

Honestly, since hitting 50, I haven't been in PvP yet. Mostly doing dailies, weeklies and OPS. Can I get some more OPS PLEASE.

The Corsair on Imperial side is a virtual ghost town.  I just don't see 1.2 million active subscribers as being accurate.

  • #16 HeavensAgent

1/3 million. Your server does not reflect this dure to known population imbalance. Approximately a third of the game's servers' are virtual ghost towns, with the bulk of the population playing on the remaining two-thirds. This is why the developers will be implimenting free transfers for the low-pop servers.

Nice, we have confirmation now that 1.3 is expected to be pushed live by the end of June.

roll on fatman plenty of people

  • #5 JSleeper

    Ouch.  Lost of 400k subscribers.

  • #7 RogueJedi86

400k players is more than a lot of MMOs have for total population. We're not doing too bad. Even with 400k loss, that 1.3 million's still more than everyone that isn't WoW or Free To Play.

    *edit*
But yes, I feel the tiny pang of the player base going down too, even if it's only a small amount.

the numbers will be even more drastic after the 6-month subs drop off and expacs still 6 months away after that.

  • #17 HeavensAgent

Possibly, but not likely. 6-month subscribers tend to make of a small percentage of any game's subscription population. In any case, we'll know if this is true or not in July.

I believe it was Age of Conan that started with 1million and dropped to 300K after a few months so in the grand scheme of things TOR's drop isn't huge but it is worriesome if it continues.
