Server Transfers: Origin and Destination Details

As of this morning, server transfers have officially opened with a handful of origin servers currently eligible for character relocation to select destination servers. BioWare recently shed some light onto the process as they expect it to proceed:

In some cases, a large number of origin servers will be eligible to move to a single destination server. In others, very few origin servers will be transferring to existing high population destination servers. Remember, the goal here is to push almost every destination server to an active population that’s higher.

This process will be gradual and staged over time.

It is likely that today marks only the beginning of BioWare's overall transfer strategy, possibly in the direction of the recently hinted move to massively populated servers. In any case, additional origin servers will more than likely be announced eligible for transfers in the near future. Hit the jump for a complete rundown of origins and destinations.

UPDATE (6/12/12):

Keep in mind that we're going to be updating this list with eligible servers on a regular basis. This just represents the first group of eligible servers. We're monitoring how well the service is currently handling the load and I'll have a more solid update for you folks later today, but you can take "regularly" to mean that it won't be a week or a month for the next update.

UPDATE (6/12/12 12:30pm EDT):  Ten additional server pairings have been made available, including several RP servers.

UPDATE (6/12/12 4:30pm EDT):   No additional servers will be opened for transfers today:

Thanks for your patience as we continue to gradually open up new servers for free character transfers. The vast majority of transfers are being completed successfully, but we have discovered a very rare issue that can occur during the transfer process that will require us to perform a brief maintenance tonight from 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) to 4AM CDT (2AM PDT/5AM EDT/10AM BST/11AM CEST/7PM AEST). The game servers and SWTOR.com will be unavailable during this time. Due to this issue, we will not be opening any new servers today for free character transfers, but rest assured that we will resume tomorrow morning.

For those of you that are currently eligible for character transfers, in order to prevent this rare issue from occurring, please log out of your current game session before you initiate the character transfer process.

Thank you all for your patience, and we look forward to opening more servers for transfers tomorrow!

You can begin the character transfer process via your SWTOR account page when your server becomes eligible, but there are a number of additional requirements so be sure to check them first. The following list of origin and destination servers will be continually updated as new details emerge.

I'm right there with ya. I'm hoping to be a destination as well.

I doubt they will close those servers unless all chars have moved off them

The transfers are a complete joke. It's a great way to make A LOT of people unhappy and unsub in the process.

and having no transfers isn't? Not everyone's on a well populated server... I for my part do love the transfers, as we have ~70 guys on the imperial fleet @prime time... :D

They do some good work with their transfers, you can just always see things from some awkward viewpoint where even Manhattan might look like a Brazilian Slum

Just proof that no matter how hard one tries, you just can't please everyone. If you seriously think "this" is what'll cause people to unsub over not having transfers, you sir just have not been paying any attention.

thanks a lot :). exactly what I mean!

So Unsub, and stop crying about it. In the meantime, I'll be having more fun on my new server than I was already having on my low pop server...

Well people who unsub because they are making sure that the transfer prosess is done in a secure and good way the community can easily live without.

I really have no problem with the limited amount of servers availiable today. It shows that they actually have a system in place and things are happening, though I'm not sure why there are transfers to thefatman. It's getting really laggy on fleet, I'm fine with them testing it out today. I'm expecting them to really open it up tomorrow and the next day. As long as that happens starting out slowly is a good way to go. I have been critical of Bioware in the past, but if they do this correctly and implment Ranked and LFG correctly before my sub runs out this summer I'll probably stick around.

To me it points towards that superserver thing recently mentioned. Both The Fatman and The Red Eclipse are already filled, to send more people there can only mean they have some way to make them less burdened in the works.

The interesting thing is that Eye of Ashlanae isn't that badly off. It used ot be one of the heavily populated servers, with rather significant queues at launch.

So this is very interesting overall.

    Charming... yes? http://imgur.com/r6WrI

  • #13 Muskaan

Well.. there was like 5 people in Hedarr Soongh.

  • #66 mgjr

Looks like you were correct about super servers. Two more servers feeding into thefatman now.

  • #4 Knighthammer
    • Soresu PVP (Origin) ----->  The Harbinger PVP (Destination)
    • Slight error there guys - Soresu is PVE as well as The Harbinger (also PVE)
  • #5 Predation

    Fixed, thanks.

  • #1 ahac

    That's it! I'm moving.

But... I wonder what will happen to characters of my inactive friends if they ever decide to come back...
