Patch Notes 1.3.0a 6/28/12

Following Tuesday's release of content update 1.3 "Allies", servers were again brought down this morning to address a small handful of bugs relating to the new group finder tool and PVP animations.

Rampant speculation has been sweeping the internet that this unexpected maintenance period would be used by BioWare to sneak in a second SWTOR "world event," to follow in the footsteps of the hugely successful Rakghoul Pandemic of post-1.2. A number of clever community members have already dug up clues as to possible missions, pets and item rewards likely associated with an upcoming event of this type, but no official mention seems to have been made with this round of patching.

For the 1.3.0a patch notes in full, read on after the jump or check them out on the official SWTOR.com page.

Update: There is a persisting issue with augments that players should be aware of. An upcoming patch will fix the issue.

Group Finder

  • Leaving a Group Finder group where all other members have disconnected will no longer cause players to be temporarily locked out of Group Finder.
  • Flashpoints and Operations will no longer occasionally reset and eject players who have recently used Group Finder for a replacement member.

PvP

  • Ballistic and Knockback effects no longer occasionally de-sync the character's location, which could cause characters to not interact properly with the world (such as being able to be hit by melee attacks when the character appeared to be out of range).

Havent been able to be on TOR for the past few weeks due to moving (which is sad because I freaking love this game) Going to relogin and prepare myself for patch awesomeness once my work check clears the bank, everything with the patch seems to only be an improvement. however. one quick question, has the DH guild transferred when our server was made eligible? If so, as soon as I access my account I am moving my chars to that server.

I believe the unofficial guild guys still have yet to setup the guild on that server but most have transferred over.

Before the merges and 1.3 grp finder, I probably would have considered reupping my SWTOR sub on occasion and going all in on GW2. Since the merges and 1.3, I am not letting my sub go for nada. I may still try GW2, but any MMO I play will be structured around my SWTOR sub.

SWTOR forever, GW2 never. Ok, I may try TSW next month.

SWTOR has been soooo good. It has been everything I hoped and more.

The only event in the near future is GW2 launch...

    xD

    Oh, zing!

I skipped the first one though, and will do the same here. The only other MMO on the horizon for me that might warrant a look is Secret World...

I think I will give GW2 a try, its F2P and a lot of people like it so why not. But I dont intend to cancel my SWTOR.

people say TOR launched too early (and i agree), TSW is definitely launching far too early imo.  don't get me wrong, there are some very cool things going on with that game, but if anyone thought TOR didn't have enough polish on it at launch, it's chrome compared to TSW's rust.  it's also a very niche type of game (one that i like tbh).  although, i'm really turned off by every aspect of the combat system (with the exception of the "deck" mechanic part of it).

    same for me, Chuck:)

GW2 shares nothing but the setting/lore with GW1.  it is in every sense of the word, "mmorpg".  the world is vibrant, beautiful and dangerous.  there are all kinds of things to do for all player types: mini games galore, crafting, exploration, open world questing, personal story questing, dungeon crawling, dynamic events and world bosses, structured and WvWvW (server vs sever vs server) pvp, etc., etc.

to be sure there are systems and mechanics unique to this game world; however, there are typical mmo tropes to be found.  it does take some getting used to (especially the combat system).  the combat system is visceral, responsive and fast-paced.  it can be daunting at times (going from full health to zero as melee while fighting an elite npc and getting caught by its special) and ANet is in the process of reworking better "tells" into their encounters specifically for melee players.  it also took me a while to get used to no GCD and realtime responsiveness of character animations that gave me the feeling of "floatiness" or "skating".  i've heard longtime mmo players bag on the limited number of skills, but what they fail to realize is that you get 2 weapon sets (each with 5 skills and 1 or more "burst" skills depending on the profession) and weapon swaps are a mainstay of the system.  along with the weapon set skills are 1 healing skill, 3 utility skills and an elite skill (that's at least 16 skills available on the toolbar).  i don't use that many in TOR.

everyone thinks GW2 is a role-less game.  it really isn't.  you can build your profession towards any kind of role you want.  some professions have their leanings towards certain roles imo (like the current options for Guardian players making them better suited towards support healing/protection/buffing rather than dps), but ANet is constantly balancing all profession abilities, so i wouldn't be surprised to find out, for instance, that the Guardian does finally have a competitive dps option.  the other thing to keep in mind is that, ANet wants everyone to be actively engaged and literally on their toes in combat encounters.  this game won't make it easy on groups to shift the burden of holding aggro to one player that stands in front of a boss soaking damage, or one player responsible for reviving downed party members while the rest stand back and afk nuke.  i've been able to build a Warrior that can rdps/kite, respec to a support tanky-healer/crowd controller, and/or respec to a mdps.  in this game you truly bring the player/class and spec the role you want to fulfill.

I took at look at GW2, looks interesting but if people thought that some of the stuff in SWTOR was difficult to get used to or (technically) difficult to grasp, then GW2 is NOT for them.  That MMO is geared at MMO players, considering you can configure almost everything, it feels more like a free-form MMO.  I'll give it a try, but SWTOR will not be getting canceled as it is my new drug for at least another year or two.
