UPDATE (8/16/12 11:40am EST):   The Grand Acquisitions Race will draw to a close on Tuesday, August 21st, so get your missions done now if you're after a sweet bowcaster or Sand People costume:

The Chevin Conglomerate has decreed that you will have until next Tuesday (August 21st) at 2AM CDT (12AM PDT/3AM EDT/8 AM BST/9AM CEST/5PM AEST) to finish up the Grand Acquisitions Race. They've also decreed that the Shady Dealer will remain for an additional week after the race ends, citing "feedback" as the primary reason.

Good luck!

UPDATE (8/16/12 3:00am EST):   The time-lock on quest "A New Lead" has been lifted and players can now pursue acquisition of the Black-and-Orange Sphere.

UPDATE (8/15/12 3:41pm EST):   Allison Berryman confirms that the Sand People Bloodguard vanity outfit associated with the event (as well as the Containment Officer outfit from the previous Rakghoul event), currently restricted as Bind on Pickup, will be changed to Bind on Legacy in the future:

I asked Systems Designer David Hunt why the Sand People Bloodguard outfit is currently bind on pickup instead of bind on Legacy, and he let me know that it will be changed to bind on Legacy in the future - this will also affect the Imperial and Republic Containment Officer outfits from the Rakghoul event.

UPDATE (8/15/12 3:00am EST):   The time-lock on quest "A Lead" has been lifted and players can now pursue acquisition of the Akar Kesh Meditation Mask (thanks DJThomas07).

UPDATE (8/14/12 1:30pm EST):   Joveth Gonzalez weighs in with a tip concerning resetting bonus missions associated with the Grand Acquisitions Race:

Hi there! If you ever get frustrated and delete a bonus mission during the Grand Acquisitions Race's main mission, the easiest way to get it back is to reset the main mission for this event. You'll still retain all of your previous items and you will only lose the progress that you've made towards the current item that you're pursuing. Hope that helps!

The Grand Acquisitions Race is on! With this kind of World Event, it is important for us to share information as it comes in. To assist in this, we’re creating a work in progress guide that will document our progression through the event. A detailed recounting of the new quest line along with screenshots is contained after the jump. Video and further information is coming soon but for now, hit the jump to find out more.

General Information

When you log into your character, you will want to make your way to your respective faction fleet. After making your way there, head over to one of the hallways near the elevators. You will notice the same holoprojector terminal used for the Rakghoul Plague Outbreak event. Go ahead and click on it. Following the video, you will receive a quest that will tell you to make your way to Nar Shaddaa’s Lower Promenade.

Head to your ship and once on Nar Shadaa use the taxi. Upon arrival at the Lower Promenade, click the Chevin Conglomerate Message Center to activate the first part of the quest line.

After hearing him babble for a bit, the next tier will take you on an item hunt for the things listed below.

HOW TO GET STARTED

  • Travel to Nar Shadaa (You can skip the initial quest from your fleet station, it's simply to alert players that the world event has begun).
  • Take a taxi to the Lower Promenade, and activate the Chevin Conglomerate Message Center.
  • After a brief video cutscene, you receive the mission The Grand Acquisitions Race, tasking you along a scavenger hunt across the galaxy for a laundry list of items.
  • Additional quests will become available both through items looted during these missions and via clickable quest objects.

Vandrayk’s Tuning Apparatus

  • Throughout Nar Shaddaa’s various districts, you can find Smuggler Crates that yield bonus tokens and also sometimes quest objectives, i.e. Vandrayk’s Tuning Apparatus. These Smuggler Crates spawn on random intervals and do not have set spawns so keep that in mind.  Some advice: think Easter egg hunt: look behind crates, gutters and large equipment. BioWare stuffed a ton around random objects that obscure the vision of typical player paths.

I know the event is nearly over, but while working on the information for the guide I found that shifting instances to lower populated ones allowed me to compete the tasks faster. Also less competition for boxes and the like.

Hope this helps any hunters still scavaging!

I kept getting "Taxi Death" after being dropped off on the platform with the jar in this last quest.

If it happens to you, people are landing on a regular basis and you can whisper one of them to ask for a rez.

Unfortunately, the medic probe isn't an option, so your only other option is to start all over.

  • #61 Thasri

I was checking out the Sand People outfit and put some of my BattleMaster MOD's in them and now I lost my set bonuses. Any one else having this issue?

  • #63 Convertible

Works only with War Hero and Campaign gear.

  • #65 Lyeken

same thing happened to me, but i only realised after i wasted 300ish k on taking out the mods

BM mods do not transfer set bonuses. Only War Hero and I believe black hole/campaign gear transfers the set bonus with the armor

  • #55 EidLeWeise

    Is there any word on

    • More loot from this event?
    • More things to do?

Because at the moment, unless you buy tokens or farm the smuggler boxes getting say the pet is impossible (on quest rewards) and there's nothing 'tangible' for Jedi etc who can't use guns.

As things currently stand it feels as though the race is a bit of a wasted opportunity to get the community involved? The first day when we had everything it was a lot of fun (even driving round on the easter egg hunt) But now all we have to do is the one mailed quested which takes 2 minutes (not counting time waiting for your turn to get the click in).

Just a note, as many people seem not to realize this...

The bowcasters from this event are Bind on Legacy. Still not a help for people who choose to only have Jedi characters, but I would guess nearly everyone has at least one toon that can use a gun.

BoL or no, seems kinda silly to just offer one type of weapon reward, no?  I mean, aside from companions, only 3 classes out of 16 can even use the thing.

I suspect they're spreading out the types of rewards across multiple events. The Rakghoul plague just had color crystals (which most impact saber wielders), I'm sure we'll see event rewards in the future that focus on blaster pistols or assault cannons or  off hand shields. Ok, maybe not that last one. Anyway, Risha's new gun looks pretty cool, so I'm good.

  • #60 MattRiddle

When it takes a quarter of a year, if not longer, between these big events, people won't have the patience to wait until it's 'their turn' to get cool weapons. I mean, it could be F2P before the next big event happens.

  • #64 Aurhia

Quote: The Rakghoul plague just had color crystals (which most impact saber wielders)

Color crystals affect everyone. It changes the color of your shots if you're not using a saber, which is extremely noticeable if you use any kind of sweeping shot or aoe-type shot. I'm actually more concerned about keeping to the right colors in my blasters than in my saber...

But I'm ok with each event having a focus in rewards. This is a small event compared to the plague. If they do small things like this but on a more frequent schedule, it makes perfect sense to specialize the rewards. If they're not more frequent, then it's more of a problem. I do not have a character who would (and only one who could) carry a bowcaster instead of a rifle... so... yeah. A little something for everyone would have been nice.

When you complete the first quest of the event you get 40 comms. I used my main + 2 alts just to run that first quest and I got the speeder (the only thing I wanted from the event vendor). if you have lvl 30+ alts, use them to do that.

  • #53 dinner4jc

The sand people set from the event is going to become bind on legacy some time in the future.
The same will be true about the containment officer from the Rakghoul event.

So the lobelot is basically the gannifari, but rendered black?

... Or did I just pass a gannifari that had its colors all bugged out?
