David Hunt Details New Tier Gear

As you may have heard yesterday during the EA Press Conference, Terror from Beyond is on its way to Star Wars: The Old Republic next month. With that, many expected a new tier of gear as a part of the new Operation. Well, it appears we are getting a new tier of gear for PvE as well as weapons for PvP.

I talked to David Hunt (Systems Designer), and he shed some light upcoming gear. He said that (for PvE), Terror from Beyond's Hard Mode will include a new set of gear that is a sub-tier of the larger tier that started with Campaign gear. It will also have non-slot restricted armornings. Nightmare Explosive Conflict will speed up the acquisition of the new set and provides new challenges for Operation groups.

For PvP, new mainhand and offhand items will become available from the PvP vendors when Terror from Beyond is released. These will be included so PvP players don't feel the need to get the hilts and barrels from PvE items to get the highest weapon damage in some cases. The rest of the set will release when Ancient Hypergates becomes available. We also have plans to release a new Recruit MK-2 set.

I'm looking forward to the new challenge, you can only clear HM EC so many times a week before it starts getting old.  I'm also looking forward to armorings that don't suck and still carry the set bonus so I can finally get rid of my rakata shells.

I just hope they give the new content enough testing to avoid nightly maintenance for 3 weeks in a row again.

Why are you still wearing rakata shells if you're clearing HM EC? Even with the campaign armorings that "suck", you're still only losing like 4 main stat... And who said they won't screw up the new armor stats?

As for the nightly maintenance for 3 weeks in a row... what are you talking about? We're lucky if they only wait 3 days before they do some maintenance for stuff that's broken. I have never seen them do maintenance 2+ nights in a row with this game. In fact, that's my biggest complaint with this game. I feel like they should be doing nightly maintenance on the game until a majority of the bugs are worked out. Look at Rift; Trion Worlds does maintenance on that game sometimes twice a day to fix bugs that appear with new content, and they're still going strong on a subscription model. If Bioware's employee's stayed late a few nights in a row and released patches for sh^t that's broken, then maybe this game wouldn't be going f2p because of the 1 million subscribers that quit.

you sir, aren't very educated on this game. Those "only losing like 4 main stat" are actuall 11 main stat each armoring. With only one optimal armoring for several ACs we losee 44 of our main stat. They suck. Period.

As for nightly 3 weeks in a row, yes that is untrue; however there HAVE been consecutive nights of maintenence before. And you really think people would play this game at ALL if they did maintenance every single night? You can't even fix those that easily. Edumacate yourself.

Ah, yeah, we clear HM EC 3-4 times a week, and most of us don't use the actual campaign armorings because they're stam heavy as hell. As a merc, the best armorings came from Black Hole gear I had to strip out, with the exception of the chest, because there is no advanced reflex 26 chest armoring EXCEPT in the campaign Tech (powertech) armoring; which is why my chest has a tech armoring. So yes, we DO have to have 4 pieces of Rakata to hold up our set bonus, because all mercs should (if you don't, well, you should. now).

Side note, I don't mind using the Rakata pieces, they do look kickass ;D

Feels like it when your ops starts at 1:30am central and every time there's a patch you lose 1-2 days of progress the first couple weeks to bugs, the fix, and the followup emergency maintenance to fix the fix. /shakefist

AgentCelric- I got lucky, I am the only BH in my group and had reflex 26 unbound armorings drop several times.  I've got those in the slots I couldn't find a convenient black hole piece to rip mods out of besides having them in my belt and wrist.

Joeymagz- They said in a recent community QA that they were going to focus on having dps/healing armor have better armorings in them, as in more of the primary stat than endurance.

You bastard! lol we've gotten, literately, one. And it was RE'ed in an attempt to be able to make it for the guild. Well, grats(nuts) to you ;D

As usual Mr. Negative Nancy. Are you mad that you had to play second string to Arnold again in Expendables 2? hehe

I fought against Bruce Lee, Arnold didn't... what else do I need?

Bruce Lee kicked the shit out of you, not out of Arnold.

Of course he did, he was freaking Bruce Lee man... that is not the point though.

Bruce Lee decided to focus more on his kicks after fighting Chuck.  Apparently Mr Norris kicks pretty hard.
