Patch Notes: 1.3.7 9/5/12

After returning from this morning’s maintenance window, Star Wars: The Old Republic has a new patch for download. This time, the changes include the Group Finder, Items, and more. Hit the jump for the notes in full.

Flashpoints and Operations

General

  • Players will no longer be prevented from traveling to their group's in a Flashpoint or Operation due to the instance being full.

Group Finder

  • Group Finder now retains a character's role selections when joining or leaving a group.

Items

General

  • The event outfits (the Rakghoul Containment outfit and Sand People Bloodguard outfit) now bind to Legacy instead of binding on pickup.
  • Muse Vestments no longer clip incorrectly with character heads.
  • Helmets, circlets, masks, and visors now display correctly on Miralukan characters, hiding the Miralukan mask.

Legacy

  • Legacy names are no longer unique. New Legacies that are created are now able to use a name that is already in use on the server. All players will be able to rename their Legacies once, at no cost, in a future update.

UI

  • Made minor cosmetic changes to the Character Selection and Character Creation UI.

Its odd, Empire players can wear Republic Containment gear W/O it switching to Imperical ones, in name or skin. And vice versa. Hope they keep it.

Why would they even do that with Legacy names...? the whole point was that it's sort of your "visible account name". If they want to give people non-unique last names that are different per character, that'd be great, so different players can create a connected family. But the Legacy name isn't a last name, even though you can display it as one. So... what? Now any schmuck with a grudge can create a free second account just to take the same legacy name as someone they don't like, and destroy that person's reputation? -- and before you say "isn't that a lot of work for that?" I've seen griefers go to far greater lengths and efforts to disrupt RPers so yeah, I do see this as one likely outgrowth.

What does it matter if your Legacy name is the same?  Are you saying that if somebody else had your last name, you wouldn't be able to differentiate yourself from them?  Having unique Legacy names is just as dumb and archaic as having unique Toon names.

Unique Legacy names was just a fun little feature that allowed you to customize your characters. Given the efforts people go to avoid being Bounty Hunter #8675309, whether by unique character name, appearance, etc. it is just a bit sad Bioware jettisoned unique Legacy names.

Either they are expecting a big rush of F2P folks in November and want to make it as easy for them to get hooked as possible or they are going to do the server mergers/shutdowns soon and don't want to deal with effort involved in Legacy name collisions.

And when server merges happened, the people who went to great lengths to be known as one thing had to change to something else.  And, in most cases, had to go to even greater lengths to find those names.  People should be able to call themselves whatever they so choose.

I guess we'll just have to disagree. I like having some bits of the game that allow you to avoid the mass homogenization systemic in current MMOs. Being able to get a name or legacy name first was a small reward to long term subscribers.

And, no, I don't think folks should be able to pick whatever name they want. If they could we'd be inundated with Drizzt Do'Legolas ArthasSkywalkers. ^_^

You know what I mean.  I'm not saying they should be able to name themselves something stupid or offensive, but that "small reward" you're referring to didn't work for my wife, who lost every toon name she had when server mergers happened.  Despite the fact that both she and I began playing during the second wave of the first day of Early Access.  She lost her small reward and was as long term of a subscriber as could exist.

    Cool.

I have to say I do not like the non-unique Legacy names. It sort of breaks the entire system of players differentiating from each other.

I really dislike the fact they took away the unique Legacy names. That was my way of demonstrating who I was no matter what character I was playing. That tiny bit of social/player reputation is gone. :/

Still doesn't transport back to original location after Group Finder is done?

Still no Terror From Beyond on PTS?

Yep, things are moving at the same pace they were when I quit a month ago.

Ahhh they are finally making F2P updates to the game =D

  • #2 Strongsadd

So it would seem, hopefully F2P goes smoothly, SWTOR can't afford any issues or problems given the lack of current content.
