As many of you already know, Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Update 1.4: Terror From Beyond, is now making its rounds on the PTS—with it comes the new operation of the same name—Terror From Beyond. Like many of you, I was extremely excited to get a chance to check it out. After waiting for the patch to download and install, I hightailed it to the fleet and hopped in the first PuG looking for a DPS!
Keep reading after the jump for my first impressions and some shots from the first few bosses of this beautiful new operation.
Upon first arrival to Asation—the gateway world to the Gree Enclave—you’re greeted by a suitably twilit landscape and a large imposing complex just off to your right to help you enter this mysterious new operation. A winding road delivers you to the main building of Asation. Infiltration of the complex requires the requisite trash killing—mobs ranging from Force wielders to droids of various statures to what looks like bio-engineered creatures—leading you deeper into the operation.
As you make your way into the Operation, you will encounter large angry boss-type mobs both indoors and out. There is an industrial looking area at the beginning, followed by swampy grasslands, overgrown caves, exotic architecture and the like. Each area seems to blend with the last thanks in part mostly to the foreboding twilight atmosphere.
The boss fights for the first half of the operation seem very organic and felt fluid as a melee DPS (no truly unnecessary running around). We had two tanks and both got to see some action requiring some AoE taunting, tank swaps, etc. Healers were actually kept busy with a fairly decent amount of healing required and fun things to dispell, like when I became infested. And those lazy ranged DPS just got to laze about and sip mojitos (or at least that’s what it looked like from under the raging boss in front of me)—though, I guess they did have their fair share of mechanics to deal with.
Now while the PuG that I found myself in had only managed to get right up to the third boss before “other obligations” started stripping members away; I found the instance to be quite well done overall with a great sense of completion. Up to that point, I had not run into any game breaking bugs, glitches, or exploits that could hinder the release of this new Operation. Although, I could not speak for the stability of the latter half of the instance.
We'll update you on the rest later.
