Server Consolidation Coming Tomorrow

We have all known for some time now that Star Wars: The Old Republic server consolidation is on its way since the original announcement a couple months back. Tomorrow, BioWare plans to finish this process.

Earlier this summer we launched the Free Character Transfer Program which offered players the option to transfer their characters from specific origin servers to selected destination servers. Following the success of the Free Character Transfer Program, and after closely monitoring server populations, we have now taken the next step in our on-going server population balancing process. We have upgraded destination servers in order to support a significantly higher number of players. As of tomorrow, all characters on origin servers will be automatically moved onto the upgraded high population destination servers. By centralizing our player populations on these higher population destination servers, we feel that we can offer our players the best possible Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ experience.

For the official post, head over the SWTOR site.

Update: It's worth noting that according to the updated server matrix there are fewer destinations now than there were when the free character transfers happened. That means some of the servers that people moved to originally are now being moved to another server. Six servers fall into this category as follows:

  • The Fatman (PvP East) ->  Prophecy of the Five
  • Canderous Ordo (PvE East) -> Jedi Covenant
  • Corellian Run (PvE East) -> The Shadowlands
  • Drooga's Pleasure Barge (PvE West) -> The Harbinger
  • Nightmare Lands (PvE EU English) -> The Red Eclipse
  • The Jedi Tower (PvE EU German) -> T3-M4

Drooga's ----> The Harbinger, I didn't have a single forced name change on all 8 tunes. Celric, Yiazmat, Asha'bellanar, Vlad'tepes, some unique, some not at all. You cats just got unlucky if you had to change, or just had really high-profile names that someone else also thought of. Bad luck. Sorry chief.

I was on Rubat Crystal when I left which was a RP server.  I was thinking of coming back when it went F2P (since I was latency bugged when I quit, I don't want to pay for potentially not being able to play), but  I have no idea where my characters would even turn up now.

Rubat Crystal players have been moved to The Ebon Hawk.

If you check out the "Server Consolidation Matrix" found on the official site, it will tell you what servers were moved where. http://www.swtor.com/transfer

Mega servers? So why am I still lagging on the Empire fleet ship on my new server Red Eclipse?
Not to mention my guildmates having massive login times ike we had during launch-week?

    LIES.

    Your lying. Mega servers? BOLLOCKS!

I've been a die-hard fan of this game since release but now I can see the cracks.

    I won't be subbing again...

Nice move Biowhore, now 1 hour waits on servers with your merger to :larger: servers.

Glad to hear I will finally have my stranded characters merged into my normal server.

Not sure why the name change is such a deal breaker for so many.  With apostrophes and dashes and alternate spellings, shouldn't be that much difference, unless people are concerned with Friends list.  I'm not sure what will happen to the Friends/Ignore lists.  It'd be nice if they can they dynamically update when names change, but wouldn't hold my breath on that.

OMG I'm doomed my tank will die instantly because is name is DogdeAllCrap and my unique name was the only thing keeping me alive on boss fights, my dps can't kill a fly now because is unique name was CrittAllot and everybody is gonna die because my awesome name HealFTW is taken, think i'm gonna ragequit the game because I don't wanna spend 30 secs choosing another name, nevermind if the comunity is gonna get bigger if its gonna be easier to find groups for quests FPs and OPs.

I wonder how these new moves will affect the general culture on these new destination servers.

So I lost 4 out of 8 names when we got punted onto Nightmare Lands in the original move.  If I lose them again being merged into Red Eclipse I think I'll be leaving.

I'm already down to a couple of nights a week thanks to GW2 but I was keeping my sub open until I see what F2P does to SWTOR.  It might no longer be worth it to me.

next time come up with original names and you won't have this problem.

Seriously, that's the best fanboi comeback you can come up with?

None of my names were crappy ripoffs, all were pretty reasonable fictional names, not taken from anywhere, but there are only so many combinations of letters that don't look like you just facerolled on the keyboard.  And, no, I'm not going down the stupid "just put an umlaut in there" route.  It's just not worth it.

At this point in time, SWTOR needs to be giving players a reason to stay, not another reason to leave.  My guild is down to less than 25% of those that started, and those of us still playing are down to 1 or 2 nights per week as everyone we know is in GW2 (which I'm enjoying also).  So to give me yet another reason why I shouldn't bother logging in any more is not conducive to keeping my sub money coming in is it?

I know, I know, don't feed the trolls.  Some days I just can't help it...

by all means tell me what your names where then.

if you aren't having fun with the game stop playing.  It doesn't matter what MMO you are playing if you ever have to ask "give me a reason for paying"  then stop paying and maybe come back 3-4 months later when they add stuff.  That way you won't get burned out.

I've had some original names taken as well.  For example, "Xinthra" is pretty original.  I was surprised to see that it wasn't available.  I've had other names taken as well and (excluding Katara for my Shadow) they were all original.  It's just bad luck.  I'm also not the type of person that will use accent marks.  I know what those accent marks mean, so it changes the name a great deal.  I'd rather just come up with a new name, but it's really disappointing and frustrating when you have to choose your main character's name 3 times.

i don't know i've seen xinthra since my EQ days.

But you can easily star wars your name such as

Xin'thra or Xin-thra and the such.

Like many others, I had the same, as I had to rename my mainchar I luckily could name my legacy to his name. Anyhow... changing the name again, well I did it once, I'll do it again but a reason to stop playing... nah. I can however see it as a reason for people not really playing the game anymore and trying to find a reason for themselves to finally quit it. (no offense)
