Game Update 1.5 for Star Wars: The Old Republic is on the PTS this week and with it came the inclusion of HK-51. Fans of the Knights of the Old Republic series are sure to want HK-51 due to the resemblance and lore of HK-47. To assist in players acquiring this new companion, we created a guide. To see the guide in full, hit the jump.
Note: This guide contains potential spoilers. If you do not wish to have the quests spoiled, do not hit the jump.
Update: A portion of this quest is currently bugged but there is a workaround for it.
Just wanted to confirm that there is indeed an issue here - When someone uses the Foundry / Maelstrom Prison component (depending on faction), you will likely see the "Recover HK Components" task's counter tick up by 2-4, instead of just 1. Even with the bug, though, each player in the group should still be getting proper credit for finding the Loyalty Chip when someone clicks on it.
In practical terms, this actually winds up being more of a display issue than anything else. You should be able to continue to gather the other components, and your quest will advance when you have them all. Alternatively, if you save the HK Loyalty Chip component for last (as others have suggested here), you can circumvent the issue entirely.
This issue will be addressed, and I apologize for any inconvenience experienced in the meanwhile.
Guide
Getting Started
In order to begin the quest to obtain HK-51, players will have to head to the new daily mission area - Section X on Belsavis. Section X can be reached via shuttle from the Belsavis orbital station or from shuttles located at the other daily mission areas on Corellia and Ilum. Upon arriving at Section X, an astromech droid will be waiting with the mission that begins the HK-51 quest line.
The initial mission sends players to the Frozen Lake part of the Section X map. Located in this area is SIS Agent Bren (Rep)/General Avrun (Imp) who will lead you to the next part of the quest. Within the Frozen Lake area is the crashed ship The Fatality. Inside the crashed ship lies several hostile NPCs and the next step in the quest chain. Fight through the ship and into the HK vault. Inside you will learn that you require schematics and parts to rebuild and activate an HK-51 Droid. Return to Bren/Avrun who will send you on your way to collect the schematic for rebuilding your droid.
The Theoretika
An abandoned ship named the Theoretika is the next stop. The Theoretika is a ship that was previously owned by the Czerka Corporation and is thought to hold schematics for HK droids. The ship will be accessible via your ship on the galaxy map in the unknown section of the galaxy upon reaching this part of the quest.
Once inside. Head to the elevator shaft ahead and pry your way through the door and into Deck 4 of the ship.
Upon entering Deck 4, Head north around to the Forward Corridor and collect the engineering clearance key card from the engineer's corpse.
Now that we have clearance we can advance to the engine room but before we head there, let's collect the Datalogs located on this deck. Each deck will have 4 barracks to explore. Head back south to the Deck 4 Aft Section and into Barracks 4C at the SW corner of the barracks block to find the first datalog.
Head out and around to the SW corner of the deck and open the blast door with your acquired Engineer's Key Card. From here, head down into the port engine access. To the east will be room filled with junk where we find our 2nd datalog.
Head back west and turn south into the engine room to pick up the spare battery pack. Be careful as there is a coolant leak inside that will kill you if you linger too long. Only 1 spare battery pack is required to progress through the ship.
Head out and back onto Deck 4. From here head to the SE corner of the Deck and through the blast door into the Starboard Engine Access. To the west will be a room with our 3rd datalog located in the center of the room.
Once again, head out onto Deck 4. Head north and enter the barracks again to find our 4th datalog.
Head out and all the way North into the Security Subsection. Insert the spare battery pack into the socket to power up the terminal.Use the terminal to lift the lock down.
Head out of the substation and up the stairs to the North and into Deck 5. Upon entering the Deck 5 Aft Corridor, you will see a downed medical probe next to a corpse.
This is our 5th datalog.
From here, follow the corridor East and into Main Engineering. In front of you will be a flooded area that you can cross on foot. At the other side is the main engineering breaker.
Flip this switch to restore power to the area, causing the water that you crossed to become electrified and deadly.
Luckily, an explosion will cause one of the upper level walkways to fall down, providing you with a path to the upper level.
Head up and platform your way across to the other side and head out of the NE exit of main engineering. Through the doorway you will see the corpse of a security officer. On his person will be a security key card we need for security clearance.
After obtaining security clearance, turn around and head back to Deck 4. The NE barracks door can now be opened with your security key card. This is where things may get a little scary. Luckily, I'm here to guide you. Once you are inside the room, the door will slam shut and a clock will begin to tick down until you suffocate. Remain calm, make sure your light is on, and look to the NE corner of the room.
Behind the box you will find the door controls have been sabotaged. You discover that you are going to need a fuse to open the door. Lucky for you, there is a fuse located in a pile of junk on the opposite corner of the room.![]()
Take the fuse and place it in the door controls to open the door. Wipe the sweat off your brow and breathe deep. Now back to work. In this room is our 6th datalog and the medical clearance key card.
Now head out and back upstairs to Deck 5. Go through main engineering to the NE corner of Deck 5, the Medical Bay. In here you will find our 7th and final datalog. What you will also find is a pile of empty stim injectors.
Pick up an injector and head over to the nylite canister found within the room and fill your stim injector with nylite. This will be useful here in a second. Head out and North up the stairs to Deck 6. Through the north door will be the Research Lab. Head in and look to the right to find the power console.
Once the power is restored, the console with the coveted HK-51 schematic will power on. Restoring power will also release Specimen Gamma 19.
Inject your nylite stim into Gamma 19 to destroy him from within. Once he is down, head to the main console to get your HK-51 schematic.
Head out of the lab and take a quick right to return to your ship and advance the quest. At this point, you should receive the Burba Seismic Scanner/Excavator but some are reporting not receiving one. If you don't get one, bring 50,000 credits extra with your for the next step of the guide.
Scanning for Components
Four of the Seven components required are found via scanning. The Burba Seismic Scanner/Excavator will make an initial excavation scan at a 2 meter radius. If you are within 2 meters of the component, the component will be unearthed and be available for looting. If the scanner doesn't find a component within 2 meters, it will execute 4 radial search scans at 5 meters, 10 meters, 15 meters, and 25 meters. If your scan results in a find, you will be told which radial scan the component was found in, but no direction towards the component is given. Keep scanning the area and comparing distances of previous scans to help you pinpoint the component. After the component is unearthed it will be lootable for 1 minute. After your minute is up, the component will disappear and relocate to a different spawn location. We do not know as of yet if there are multiple static spawn locations or if the component is spawning randomly within a given area.
Tatooine (Outlaw's Den) – HK Primary Transistor
While this one was very easy to get on the PTS, it will not be nearly as simple on the live server. This HK part is positioned deep inside The Outlaw’s Den that is sure to be a hotbed of PvP activity.
In the southeast corner of The Outlaw’s Den next to our old friend Blearg the black market trader is a Jawa Salvager named Collector Kezzit.
He will sell you the HK Transistor (Gift-wrapped)for 125,000 Credits along with other useless junk he has salvaged and an extra Burba Seismic Excavator/Scanner for 50,000 Credits if you decide to lose yours.
Taris (Endar Spire Crash Site) – HK Chassis (Scanning Required)
The grounds north of the downed Endar Spire contain our second piece, the HK Chassis. The area becomes somewhat enclosed once you get near the Endar Spire and gives us a good boundary for where to scan.
Coruscant (Jedi Temple Ruins) – HK AI Regulator (Scanning Required)
The entire bottom level of the Jedi temple ruins is scanning territory. I have not heard any confirmed reports of the component spawning on the upper level ruins and I do not suspect I will. This area is big and is circular so there are plenty of places the scanner can easily miss so be patient and thorough.
![]()
The component will come in a Bind on Legacy container that you can trade to your main character of the opposite faction that is progressing through the quest. This is where the help of your legacy comes into play. This item is unique so if you want to farm it for other characters in your legacy, you will probably want to invest in a field mail droid.
Dromund Kaas (Dark Temple Grounds) – HK Motivator (Scanning Required)
Go to the bathroom and get yourself some snacks. The Dark Temple Grounds has the most surface area of any that you have to scan. The entire map from the outpost to the temple door is free game for the component to spawn.
![]()
I hope you have a comfortable computer chair because you are about to put in some hours. Just like the Coruscant component, this component will come in a Bind on Legacy container so that Republic characters progressing through the quest can trade it between characters. Same as the Jedi Temple Ruins component; get yourself a field mail droid and farm these up for multiple characters.
Hoth (Ambira’s Fury Crash Site) – HK Power Core (Scanning Required)
Within the fallen ship and the area surrounding it hold our HK Power Core. The component should not be buried too far from the ship so do not wander off into the frozen white. A warning to all Republic players on PvE servers: This area is considered Empire territory so you will be flagged for PvP and you most likely will be killed. Bring a lunch.
The Emperor’s Space Station (False Emperor) – HK Weapons Protocol
I think everybody has a pretty accurate guess of where this next component is. Our old friend HK-47 is a master of assassination so obviously there is no better place to get an HK Weapons Protocol. Kill and loot HK-47 on normal mode to get the Weapons Protocol. No further progression into the instance is required.
Revan’s Possession (Maelstrom Prison/The Foundry Hard Mode) – HK Loyalty Chip
It’s very apropos that Revan would be holding the HK Loyalty Chip. Both flashpoints must be completed in their entireties on Hard Mode difficulty. At the end of Maelstrom Prison after Revan is freed, just before the exit sits a chest with “Confiscated Possessions” inside. Open the chest up and take your Loyalty Chip. For The Foundry, after Revan is defeated there will be an HK loyalty Chip atop the console behind the loot chest.
Sector X
Return to SIS Agent Bren/General Avrun and then make your way back to The Fatality to activate your HK-51 droid. It won’t be that easy though. Once inside be sure to check your corners because around every one is a team of Dread Guard assassins waiting to tear you apart.
Dispose of these hit squads and then deal with the Dread Guard Lord of Agony. He’s a heroic 2 level champion so he’s not difficult to solo, but he will Whirlwind your companion leaving you on your own occasionally.
Once this meatbag is disposed of, enter the HK chamber and claim your prize.

Posted 10/16/2012 1:38:15 PMI wonder where this topic disappeared to for 3 days. It looks the same as it did a few days ago.
(Not hating, just noting it disappeared for a while, and doesn't have the method of acquisition added in.)

Posted 10/13/2012 12:35:32 PMYou don't actually mention how to acquire it. The new dailies mention the area where it's acquired, but neither it nor this article highlight the spot that it's gotten, only the steps after it's acquired. You might want to add it for reference, since not all of us will be up there on Belsavis for the dailies, wanting only to get this chain. :)

Posted 10/14/2012 2:43:23 AMI'll add this in there for you guys. It got left out because what we wanted to do was create a separate guide for a part of the chain called "The Theoretika" which comes before the actual gathering of the materials and creating HK-51 quest and is quite huge and pretty creepy in a fun way. I wanted to get this out first so people could see HK-51's abilities (which are awesome btw) and prep themselves for a dual faction quest.
