Damion Schubert Discusses Cartel Coins

Earlier this morning, BioWare’s Principal Lead Systems Designer Damion Schubert answered a few questions regarding the upcoming Free-to-Play option. Both of the questions involved responses to the restrictions and changes the game will incur. In the first, Damion Schubert outlines the future of the security vendor and fleet passes.

I asked Principal Lead Systems Designer Damion Schubert this question. He said that the Fleet Passes will still be available on the Security Key Vendor when the Cartel Market launches. As with anything, the contents of the vendor may be changed in the future, but we do want to have strong incentives to encourage subscribers to apply security measures to their accounts. Free-to-Play players won't be able to apply security keys to their accounts at the launch of the Cartel Market.

Damion Schubert then addresses if players can acquire Cartel Coins through in-game activities.

I talked to Damion Schubert (Principal Lead Systems Designer) and asked about this topic to get some official clarification. He said that players will not be able to earn Cartel Coins from in-game activities when the Cartel Market launches, but that it's something we're investigating for the future. We like the idea but needed to focus on ensuring we had a solid framework for Cartel Coins and the Market first.

Both threads you can find in full on the official forum.

One of the many issues with their game atm is their gear is not only lazy cut/paste iterations of the same gear with the same bonuses we've seen going on a year now, but the actual armorings are in some ways downgrades or sidegrades at best.

For instance, looking at my PT's tank gear, i take defense and absorption hits for endurance and aim stats?
Who's doing their math over there? They can't even get their own numbers right! It's as if they get off on forcing the players to Frankenstein their gear by pulling mods and switching this for that in order to achieve a bloody upgrade in this game.

It's all so terribly designed, terribly implemented, and just plain badly managed.

that's why someone who is fully rakata equipped can be worse off than someone with modded columni armor.... however that's what makes it actually more interesting in terms of "how to do". Just equipping some gear which is automatically better is just boring.

Not to mention that due RE'en mods crafter are actually still fully viable and can make serious cash with it (something people were complaining before 1.2)

All the stock gear is more than enough to get you through all the content, so where's the problem?  If you want to be better than stock then yeah, you need to swap some mods.  It's completely by-design that tweakers get benefits, and the less knowledgeable folk who just upgrade to whatever's put there for them do not get those benefits.

Well that's not the point at all is it?

Try reading again, slowly this time.

Earning cartel coins in game means pay to get a short cut when not earning the cartel from game play but buying the cartel coins instead.

I played several characters to lvl 50, done ops,fps have high rank valor on several characters, etc, the point is... I am burnt out, and I am taking a break from swtor and just reminiscing on the good times looking forward to Makeb... but generally at this point I am only interested in content not gear grinds. I want to play the story, not the side quests but maybe the first time through in Makeb, but I want to skip repetition like that.

I respect rewards, but not gear grinds. If swtor can not offer rewards that are no gear grinds then I would like a pay to have a short cut option. The only time I want to have to work hard for gear is either in a FP, ops, or actual quest that gives me rewards... and possibly crafting. When I pvp, I do it for the challenge, and I do not want to do a gear grind again and again... actually it would be better if not only did they reduce the gear gap but also removed pvp gear as something exclusive, and turn gear for lvl 50 more about customization and less about stat margins for the next tier.

Make gear have unique abilities as a possible alternative... there are options, other than more stats and more gear grinds.

I do not want to feel like I am on a hamster wheel... especially when trying to lvl with side quests.

So I am all for pay to have a short cut to end game gear, if end game gear involves a gear grind... I dont want a part of that.

But do we know if we can get good gear and/or MODS from the Cartel Market? So far I have only seen mainly cosmetic things.
