Wookiee Life Day Coming

After updating our DB yesterday with all of the current items included in the PTS patch, we discovered a few items worth covering on their own beyond the Cartel Market. One of these happens to involve a Star Wars-centric holiday event called Wookiee Life Day.

Life Day was a Wookiee holiday celebrated by the inhabitants of Kashyyyk every three years. It was a celebration of the planet's diverse ecosystem and the many forms of life it encompassed. It also was a time to remember family members who had died, and the young ones who continued to bring new life to a family. Life Day was a sacred holiday, and many Wookiees considered it their duty to return to Kashyyyk in order to celebrate it.

Items

It has been a while since we've heard anything regarding BioWare's stance on holiday events but for those who remember, it's not surprising to see events based on the Star Wars IP. Guess we'll have to see when this stuff rolls out, though if Star Wars Galaxies is any ballpark, it will occur during the Christmas holiday season.

As a SWG lover i have my heart divided.

1st i would like to see things from SWG again, an wookie life day is star wars and SWG lore.

But other part of me feels dirty because this game, SWTOR doesn't deserve anything from the game I love and LA closed without a huge lack of vision.

    So life day? mmmm maybe.

There's one minor thing I loved about latter years' Life Day in SWG: the persistent music in towns with Life Day Trees. Dearic, Wayfar, Doaba Guerfel(my personal favorite for the year-round snow), all played pretty much all forms of SW music from the entire SW Saga and EU. Hearing RotJ Endor Celebration music one minute and Republic Commando's "Rage of the Shadow Warriors" music the next minute was soooooooo great. I didn't care if it didn't fit lore, I just loved to sit around for hours and hear all that damn SW music.

I seriously don't care where the idea comes from, whether they got it from an awful Christmas special or just came up with an idea to create a holiday event. Events are fun. Yes, sometimes they get tedious, like the Chevin event (which felt rushed and incomplete), but holidays are a part of all cultures and should be included. I'm just kind of sorry that we didn't get one for Halloween (or something along those lines).

I am curious, however, to see how a Wookie festival will fit into the Empire. Yes, there are Wookies working for the Empire, but given the Empire's views on aliens...

*shrug* Even as a loyal Imperial, I'll be doing something if/when the event is released. :) And enjoying it.

The Rifftrax version of the Star Wars Christmas Special is awesome.  You also get to see what a really coked up Carie Fisher looks like and Mark Hammil in VERY heavy makeup. It really is a joy for the whole family with Itchy, Lumpy and Mala.  :D

In defense of Mark Hamill's makeup, he'd just been in the car accident that WRECKED his face for the rest of his life(noticeably in "Empire"). The makeup was just a kneejerk reaction to cover up that terrible crash he'd been in.

Good thing, I mean wookie life day is an homage to what is easily the first terrible piece of Star Wars fiction (the Christmas special) but the fact is I am now playing Guild Wars 2 because their halloween event is fun. Repeating annual holiday always get people to come back for at least a brief instance as an excuse to see what's changed since they last played, and give subscribers a nice break from the daily/weekly types of events you'll repeat.

Here's looking for Ilum's defunct PvP area to be turned into a Giant PvP Snowball fight zone come wookie life day ;)

Everything Bioware tries with this game fails miserably. This will not change that pattern.

The game is doing better than a lot of the other mmos released around the same time (and since). I have been trying out most of the new ones and I keep coming back to SWTOR.I think this next update will be great for the game and am expecting big things next year.

Have we played the same game? I'm not really certain we have perhaps you're looking for Tera or Aion? TOR frankly has nowhere to go but up, it's got one of the most solid foundations of any launched mmo in the last year, and the continued addition of content only makes the package significantly more valuable.  I'm sure you've got your reasons for being a negative nancy, but I have to question the logic of posting on a SWTOR Fan Site such as Darth Hater just to say how much you hate the game you apparently follow enough to comment on..

That said, TLDR: Your frankly close minded opinion couldn't be farther from what I believe the truth to be. TOR's gradually increasing list of content is fun, enjoyable and the fact that they're branching out and doing fun events is only a plus. Love it or Leave it(and its fan sites)

Then stop playing dude, why are you spending your valuable time playing a game that you constantly criticize?

Tried almost all the MMO that came out this year, pure disappointment in every one. Most people are not objective when they say this game lack content patch compared to other game, except maybe Rift which is not that great imo due to cross server killing the game community and free transfer.

Today it's Wookiee Life Day with a few special clothes and maybe gift giving or a tree or somethin'.

Tomorrow it's The Ewok Love Festival with fairy winged Ewoks flitting about the place and chocolate fountains...

    Don't say you weren't warned :P

  • #9 TheBBP

So.  I won't participate in the ones I don't like.

  • #10 YodasEvilTwin

Ewok Cupids would be the best shit ever.

Even more decor items with nowhere to put them?  Between these and the Cartel Market items like statues and chairs, have we yet to hear any word on whether or not our ships are becoming "decoratable?"
