Game Update 1.6: Introduction and Advanced Gear

With Game Update 1.6 hitting the Public Test Server today, a new introductory questline to group finder and hard modes came along with it. There's also a new token which newly minted 50s can turn in to get Tionese gear. In order to convey the new additions, we added them to this post. As with everything in a time sensitive manner, we may add and update this post later with new material. With that, hit the jump for the content we have currently on Introduction and Advanced Gear.

Advanced Gear Token

The new advanced gear token comes to players via an in-game main featured below.

This token is only available to players new to level 50. From there, it can be turned into a vendor on your respective faction's fleet for 99 Tionese commendations, which should be enough for any person to pick up an entire set of gear.

Introduction to Endgame

In addition to the token are two new introductory quests for players new to level 50. These quests are designed to familiarize players to the content available for play at max level.

It's not much, but with both of these combined, it will certainly help new players over that initial hump of confusion.

seems like they are trying to get players excited about raiding in the old republic. this is always a smart move for any raiding game...but wouldn't the rewards or loot that can only drop in OPS be the best way to go?

So instead of putting the coolest mounts & loot in a cartel pack .... put them on a boss in a hard mode OPS.

Free gear wins some say... Well of course it does lol so does free credits so do " I WIN Buttons" <--- My reply to all of that is LAME. I agree Tionese gear sucks, and is a fair starting point for your companion. However this doesn't mean I want to see Swtor give away free Colmi gear either. I earned a lot on my main, and I understand swtor wishing to keep people in the game, but I think they are forgetting that in their MMO game items have to be earned as well, and the harder people have to work for them the more those people appreciate them. The new EWH sucks in my opinion, and that's pretty final where I stand unless I see number changes in those items. I am not a fan of " win buttons" or giving away things, ESPECIALLY when I had to invest freaking hrs to get what I have and than see it just given away so some new people aren't at a huge disadvantage.

Sort of mixed feeling on this one.

Tionese gear is completely rubbish and useless, maybe for companions. Columi gear is the gear you should get pretty fast once you hit level 50, just a matter of going few ops or HM FP, they are put together all the time on fleet. Story mode ops and Tier 1 HM FP are not too difficult to do even in lvl 47-50 blue gear you should have by the time you hit lvl 50.

However, giving players free stuff "just like that" is just rubbish (PvP is another matter, because without recruit gear, you get killed in two shots, because stupid Expertise stat). Fresh lvl 50 should be sent on a small mission around few planets, like collect some artifacts or stamps of aprroval, or something like that, just for the feeling that they earned the tionese gear.

the same day this came out i got my jedi shadow to 50, so does that mean that i wont get the tionese crystals?

  • #15 trink202

Looking at the screenshot, it appears that the crystal requirement is gone for the tionese gear. Is this correct?

So if I have a 49 about to hit 50, should I wait until the 1.6 patch comes out so I get these tokens?

I logged into TC and received the 99 Tionese commendations item in the mail but not the +5 black hole comm mission item. Im assuming that like the Recruit Gear set from the PvP terminal you will receive this retroactively for any 50s you currently have as well.

I don't think that this is that big of a deal at this point.  I have so many Tionese crystals that they are flowing out my ears.  I wish I could give them to other players.  I also still don't believe that giving people gear means that 'noobs' will be playing.  I am so surprised that in a community game how many people don't take the time to help new players learn how to play their role, how to be a part of a flashpoint.

Love it. Like playing. Hate grinding. Free gear wins!

As if there aren't enough noobs, let's just hand them over shiny gear, and forget the idea, how they should l2p with their character. Stupid decision...

This kind of thing isn't new at all. They're attempting to lower the treadmill and requirements to get into Operations, which is something they've needed to do for a while with the addition of the last two tiers. Every MMORPG has done exactly this. :\

  • #12 RogueJedi86

Not to mention it's basically a PvE mirror to what they did when they gave everyone a set of Recruit PvP gear at 50 in 1.3. Makes sense, to make that gear treadmill less impossible for newbies. I wish games like WoW would copy that, giving out free tier 10 gear when the game has moved up to tier 11 or 12(random example).

the only reason people are doing this is because of the recruit set thing for PvP so most new 50 jumps into pvp gear where they want to get the Bm then the WH now the EWH and forget about PvE gear that gives better actual stats ( but of course no expertise)

I don't like it.  What ever happened to doing dailies and buying daily mods and ilvl 49 epics to gear for flashpoints?  So now you ding 50 and bam, here's your gear?  For crying out loud, charge people credits or something I don't know.  There goes selling any crafted or looted items from lvl 43 - 49.  Just tuff it oit and once you ding 50, magic gear catch up.  I don't mean to be negative, but this seems like nothing more than hey, "f2p player, you just dinged 50, heres some awesome purple gear.  Make sure to stop by the Cartel shop to pick up your liceanse today!" :(

  • #4 adamwankenobi

I like the idea, but as someone with 300+ tokens already, I hope I sell this for some credits (like the pvp token).
