As an early Christmas present, BioWare released a new class reveal trailer today for Star Wars: The Old Republic. This time the new trailer comes from Gamespot before the unveiling of it in the Friday Update. The trailer most notably features Jennifer Hale as the voice actor of the Trooper. Beyond the voice that every BioWare fan should recognize, several new abilities were unveiled along with possible companions seen. The video is also another good reason to see people shot repeatedly in the face by the Trooper. For those who are planning on playing the Trooper, this is the video to watch.
Working dissection after the jump. Make sure to keep checking back as we will be adding new images throughout the day. We also invite you to help the dissection along by submitting your own tips via the comment section of this post. If you find something that we currently don't have or have commented on in a prior dissection, we will credit you for the find. As always, things that are commented on in prior dissections will not be mentioned here again.
In October, BioWare added an Awards page to the Star Wars: The Old Republic official site. We at Darth Hater responded with awards of our own. The boys reviewed the polls in the December 6 podcast - here is a recap of the results.
This week's Friday Update brings a Fan Friday and a Studio Insider. The Fan Friday features a good selection of avatars, wallpaper, emoticons, and other goodies, while the Studio Insider goes into depth about the design of Coruscant.
The second Community Q & A thread also opened, and once again questions are open, so feel free to head over and ask the developers about whatever parts of The Old Republic you want to hear about. With the opening of the second Q & A thread, the first one has closed, and some of those questions have been answered in the Community Q & A section of today's Studio Insider. More than a few hot button issues were answered in the Q & A, most notably one on PVE and PVP servers. DevTracker posts after the jump.
During this year's EA Winter Showcase, the United Kingdom received wonderful information from the developers about the Crew Skills system and PVP Warzones. During the Jedi Immersion Day the following week, we got a similar presentation with copious amounts of information on both game systems. One of these presentations came from Lead PvP Designer Gabe Amatangelo. After teasing us with clues about the forthcoming derelict starship Warzone -- including that it uses an Assualt-based scenario -- Amatangelo spoke in-depth about the Alderaan Warzone. After his presentation, we were able to sit down with Amatangelo to ask some questions about PvP.
Due to popular demand, we received answers to some additional questions and expanded answers after the initial publish. Even if you read through this earlier, it warrants a second read after the jump.
You mentioned the derelict starship Warzone would feature a version of an Assault-style objective. Can you describe what "Assault" means for those who may not be familiar with that kind of PvP scenario?
Gabe Amatangelo: Staged objectives where one team defends the active objective and the other attacks it. For example: the attacker attempts to set a bomb to blow a door down in an attempt to advance to the next room where they would have a new objective, while the defender would be trying to prevent the bombs placement and then maybe diffuse it in the case it was placed.
We gathered a great deal of information about the Jedi Classes at last month's Jedi Immersion Day for Star Wars: The Old Republic. In addition to playing both the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular, we were allotted interview time with a couple of the developers. We shared the first of these interviews last month and now we can finally show you the rest. Without further ado, here is our interview with BioWare's Daniel Erickson on the Jedi Classes.
BioWare hired David Bass as their Senior Community Coordinator for Star Wars: The Old Republic. The announcement came Monday night via Stephen Reid's Twitter account. Reid acts as the Community Manager for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Reid first mentioned that he had a new employee, and then a short time later made this announcement:
Without further ado welcome aboard to the #SWTOR crew to @doctordake - follow him, guilds and fansites! :)
According to the job listing, Bass will aid BioWare "with the day-to-day operational activities surrounding the reporting and administering of the Star Wars: The Old Republic online community." In addition to working with the forums and fan community, he will work to "expand guild sites."
Bass's gaming experience includes console games like Legends of Zelda and MMOs such as World of Warcraft. He has participated in the beta for Blur Multiplayer and other unnamed games.
Bass also formerly worked as the Community Coordinator for Gazillion Entertainment. At Gazillion, he worked on a variety of projects. Before Gazillion Entertainment hired him in April 2010, he worked as the Champions Online community manager for Cryptic Studios. He left Cryptic Studios in February 2010 after the Champions Online Vibora Bay expansion announcement. We here at Darth Hater wish him the best and look forward to communicating with him in the future.
For fans following Star Wars: The Old Republic, curiosity about the Jedi Consular extends back to learning about them at last year's press event. Thankfully, we were finally able to get our hands on this class at last month's Jedi Immersion Day in San Francisco. After several hours of play time and ten solid levels, we have a much clearer image of what it means to play the Republic's most mystical class.
LucasArts treated us last month to a full day of Star Wars: The Old Republic at their headquarters in San Francisco. Sado and Orionark leveled a Jedi Knight through Level 10. Read on for an in-depth account of our play session, including our impressions of the class' combat, storyline and companion mechanics.
Warning: We've separated the story section of this article into its own page as it contains spoilers for the entire Tython quest line, so skip it if you'd rather stay in the dark.
Carefully examining and dissecting content for Star Wars: The Old Republic is the keystone of our work at Darth Hater. This meticulous approach is seen throughout our articles, but it becomes even more pronounced when we are actually playing the game. At both E3 and PAX this year we examined many of the nuts and bolts of SWTOR, but there is always more to find. The following is our list of new general notes from our multiple hours of gameplay at last month's Jedi Immersion Day.
Update: A correction was made regarding our notes about Multiplayer Dialog Party Chat after notification from Principal Lead Combat Designer Georg Zoeller.
A correction to their notes regarding party chat.
Party chat is in fact available during multiplayer dialog (or any dialog), so you can coordinate with your group on what choices to pick. This is an MMO after all, so even during cutscenes and dialogs you will retain the ability to communicate in chat.
On November 10th we were lucky enough to visit the LucasArts campus for a special Jedi Immersion Day. After being excluded from the entire 2010 convention season, it was time for the Jedi Knight and Jedi Consular to show what they had to offer. During this event we received a great deal of information on the Crew Skill system and the Alderaan Warzone, but the real fun came from over six hours of hands on time with the two classes. Be sure to check out all of our extensive coverage of this event!
There is a list of external sources for Jedi Immersion Day related content after the jump. Along with that list you also find two videos and a collection of new images for your consumption.
